2 Francesca, would you look at this selection of rawhide bones! Rawhide is like a toothbrush for dogs, scraping and rubbing our teeth clean.

3 There are so many to choose from, it's like being a kid in a candy store! Uncle Carlos, how many may be buy?

4 Sharkey! Stay focused! We need to get everything on our list first. We came here for the canaries and the horses, remember?

5 Betsy asked us to buy horse treats because she's running low. What flavor should we get? Banana? I thought bananas were for monkeys!

6 No, Franny, not the banana - let's get the peppermint flavored treats and hope they'll improve their horsey breath.

1 I've been reading all of the thoughtful comments left on the Daily Wag and so many are wondering how Francesca and Sharkey are doing so, I decided it was time for another Frenchie Health Update. I'll let the girls fill you in.

2 My leg with the dew claw removal is doing much better. I've been without the cone for a while now and have just a simple bandage. On Friday, I'll return to the vet for one last change of bandage and in a week, I should be all healed!

3 I'm so glad you're feeling better, Sharkey! I, on the other paw, still have my buttoned up eyelid and cone and will have both for another 3 weeks!

4 Yawn....I'm so tired of wearing this infernal thing!

5 I've learned how to drink water, eat, and sleep with the cone on, but I run into trouble when it comes to scratching myself. I want to scratch, but the darn thing just gets in the way!

6 Oh Franny, I don't think that's the way to do it! I know wearing the cone makes it hard but let me show you a better trick for scratching yourself.

7 Ready? Just roll yourself over...

8 ...and use the rough texture of the stone terrace to your advantage! Wiggle around on your back for a good scratch!

9 Okay, here I go!

10 If I just keep twisting, I think I can get that itch scratched!

11 Oh, there it is! That's the spot!

12 I think it's safe to say that Francesca and I are on the mend!

1 Fancesca, the temperatures are very pleasant to sit outside on this bench. We haven't been in this area for quite a while. I hope your cone isn't terribly uncomfortable!

2 I'm getting used to it, slowly but surely. Sometimes I get frustrated and try to shake it off, but then I remind myself that wearing it is for my own good!

3 I wouldn't want to wear one either, but it does serve a purpose. Now what do you suppose is going on here?

4 The patio has some strange wood-like structures on it.

5 Well, Sharkey, let's think about this logically. We know that Martha has plans for a beautiful stone walkway and formal gardens in this spot.

6 So where does this fit in, Franny? It looks like wood but it's actually faux bois, which is French for false wood. These pieces appear to be some kind of metal with cement molded around it. Do you suppose they all fit together?

7 Right now, the height of this thing makes for an excellent back scratcher! Ahhh...that feels good!

8 Wait a second! I remember Martha saying something about having a faux bois gazebo in storage! I bet she's planning on building it in the new garden back here.

9 Yes, I can see that all these pieces do fit together. Do you know that many gazebos are built to provide shade while others, like this one, are ornamental?

10 Gazebos have been around for centuries. Members of Egyptian royalty had them in their gardens 5,000 years ago, as well as the affluent Ancient Romans. In Japan, gazebos serve as tea houses.

11 Francesca, did you have anything to add about gazebos or are you following the scent of a squirrel?

1 Sharkey! Look how vibrant these bushes are! Do you suppose they're azaleas or perhaps, rhododendrons?

2 Francesca, it's not uncommon to confuse the two. After all, azaleas are in the genus Rhododendron. However, most azaleas can be distinguished from rhodododendrons by their leaves.

3 The leaves of azaleas tend to be thinner, softer, and more pointed than rhododendron leaves, which can be quite large.

4 And rhododendron flowers bloom in clusters, while azaleas have just one blossom per stem.

5 Azalea flowers can range in size and color from white, to pink, to purple, to red - there are no yellow azaleas and only a few orange varieties.

6 Oh, Sharkey! Take a look at these azaleas! They're such a lovely shade of lavender!

7 This variety is commonly referred to as George Taber. Franny, did you know there are over 10,000 cultivated varieties of Azaleas?

8 Hmm, this variety doesn't have a fragrance, but there are some azaleas that are quite scented!

9 They are very shade tolerant and can thrive beneath trees.

10 Unfortunately, I'm not so shade tolerant when there's still a chill in the air, like today! Brrrr!

7 Nelli took over Maggie's role as business partner and inspired Maggie's Light as way to give back and help other shelter dogs in the way that Maggie taught her human's to step up and help her.

8 Kathy explains that this was newly adopted Nelli's way of honoring Maggie- the dog who, in Kathy's words, "...Taught them how to love. And more importantly, how to love again." A love that led Nelli to the adoptive home and family she so deserved.
