Finding Signs of Autumn in the Woodland

Despite the continued rain, signs of autumn are beginning to show.  Fall mushrooms are sprouting all around and the leaves are beginning to fall from the trees.  Now, if it would just stop raining.  Enough’s enough!

What do you Know About Colchicum?

What do you Know About Colchicum?

Friday, September 23rd, is the first day of autumn in our part of the world.  It’s quite obvious because the sun is setting earlier and we, Frenchies, can feel a nip in the air.  Another tell-tale sign is what’s blooming in the garden.

We were walking around the farm the other day, commenting on how the weather is feeling a bit autumnal.  We also started noticing certain things that only appear in the fall.

Staghorn Ferns at the Farm

Sharkey and I were headed outdoors to play when I stopped to look at the very interesting plants that hang on Martha’s front porch.  Martha has many kinds of tropical ferns growing in pots, but what caught my attention was her collection of staghorn ferns, which really don’t require pots or potting soil.
