Maine in autumn

Posted by Sharkey

Silly me!  I just found these photos taken in early October, during the last time we went to Maine with Martha and her guests.  I must have misplaced the memory card.  We Frenchies take so many photos for our blog and I guess, once in a while, things can slip through a crack.  ‘Tsk-tsk,’ as Martha would say, but I say, better late than never.

1 Oh goody! The sun came out. The beach is always nicer when the sun is shining.

2 There's always a ton of seaweed on the beaches in Maine and Francesca loves sniffing it. It's very salty and kind of fishy smelling.

3 As you can see, the sea mist rolled in. Franny's still busy sniffing and Martha is all bundled up. It can quickly get very cold and damp on these shores.

4 Wow! Is that a dinosaur egg? Oh, I see - it's a rather large stone. They get so smooth tumbling in the rocky surf.

5 Time to leave the beach and explore the higher ground.

6 Here we are at a higher elevation. Those red scrubby bushes are wild Maine blueberry with their autumn foiliage. They seem to grow everywhere - even on these granite rocks!

7 Here I am with Kevin Sharkey. I think it's funny that we have the same name. Such a coincidence!

Thirsty

Posted by Sharkey

Recently, on a bright and sunny day, Francesca and I were frolicking outdoors when we suddenly realized that we were very thirsty. We didn’t want to go all the way back to the house for a drink so, I came up with a plan. I remembered how Shaun, the gardener was using a hose to water the plants and how that hose was attached to a standpipe. It just so happened that there was a similar standpipe where we were playing and I decided to check it out.

1 So Franny - I think this thing is called a spigot. I'm going to turn it and see what happens.

2 Well Sharkey, it looks like water.

3 I think it is water.

4 It smells like water.

5 You're right - it is water!

6 Sharkey, you had a really good idea. This is quenching.
