Meet Sharkey

I was born on February 18, 2005, in Trappe, Maryland. While my personality is laidback and easygoing, I’m always ready for a good adventure. If I see something I need to chase, like a squirrel, for example, I’m out the door and across the field without hesitation. I also really love to intimidate the donkeys even though a kick from them would probably really hurt. Francesca complains that I’m much too spontaneous and daring, but I just really like to have fun. I think Franny believes that I’m just not as smart as she is, but she is a bit of a snob.

Our Century Plants are Blooming!

Our Century Plants are Blooming!

There may be snow on the ground at the farm, but there are still things blooming!  Of course, that would be in the warm and toasty greenhouses.  Here’s a little lesson about the century plant.

Well, it’s happened again.  I’ve managed to hurt myself while having fun outdoors.  This is so unfair.

A Surprise In Our Toybox!

A Surprise In Our Toybox!

Franny and I wanted to play outside the other day, but it was just too darn cold, so we started looking for indoor options.  Martha keeps toys for us all around the house and I wanted to play with some that were in a little storage cube.  Of course, things don’t always …

We Frenchies have a lifetime exposure to yoga, as Martha has been practicing for many years.  In fact, on her blog today, she is featuring the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York.  Iyengar is the type of yoga that Martha practices.  I’m not sure what style of yoga I …

Dear Glue Squad – Just want to let you all know that we Frenchies and all of the other animals at the farm are fine.  It was very scary and if you look at Martha’s blog, you will see some of what happened.  Please be patient, as we have not been able to post new …

A Bad Year For Apples

A Bad Year For Apples

Every time I listen to the radio, it seems like another farm crop is in peril.  This year, if it’s not about the horrible drought, then it’s all about how March was so hot, followed by a cold snap.  Anyway, this blog is about the trouble with apples in many parts of the country.

Exploring a Very Special Tree

Exploring a Very Special Tree

There are so many amazing trees growing at the farm and it’s really quite interesting studying them all.  However, after seeing these photos, I think you’ll agree that I’ve stumbled upon one that’s extra special!  But don’t tell anyone – it’s secret!

It's Apple Season at the Farm!

It's Apple Season at the Farm!

The first day of autumn, which is officially called the Autumnal Equinox, falls on Saturday, September 22, just a few days away.  There are many things I love about autumn, especially the apple harvest when we bake pies and make cider.  We have many different varieties of apple trees at the farm and over the …

On Labor Day weekend, we went to our house in East Hampton where we spent a few days of action-packed fun.  We had lots of company and we did a great deal of exploring.  Kevin Sharkey, who I’m named after, was with us with camera in hand.  Give me a break, Kevin!

Scrubbing the Stable

Scrubbing the Stable

Well, I see that Vivaldi snuck a blog in yesterday.  He thinks he’s so clever!  Anyway, before Francesca, G.K., and I left for Maine, I visited the stable and was mildly alarmed at how quiet things were.  After a few inquiries, I found out why.
