Meet Sharkey

I was born on February 18, 2005, in Trappe, Maryland. While my personality is laidback and easygoing, I’m always ready for a good adventure. If I see something I need to chase, like a squirrel, for example, I’m out the door and across the field without hesitation. I also really love to intimidate the donkeys even though a kick from them would probably really hurt. Francesca complains that I’m much too spontaneous and daring, but I just really like to have fun. I think Franny believes that I’m just not as smart as she is, but she is a bit of a snob.

Close Encounters with Vivaldi the Cat

Close Encounters with Vivaldi the Cat

Posted by Sharkey

Vivaldi the cat is one sly fellow. He is always doing things to get under our skin. Just the other day, I found him all sprawled out on top of a nice soft pile of our clothes. Martha keeps our dog wardrobe neatly folded in baskets in a room off the kitchen called the servery. …

The sport of donkey chasing

The sport of donkey chasing

Regular readers of our blog know how much Francesca and I love to chase animals.  Yesterday, we were out and about and I realized that we hadn’t seen the donkeys for a while.  We located the paddock that they were in and I proceeded to have one yelping good time.  As usual, Francesca stayed on …

Feeding the birds

A lot of things are changing at the farm along with the season.  For example, I discovered a long line of shiny barrels in the carport and I just had to know what they were for.  I finally got Francesca interested in having a look and of course, we wanted to get in on the …

The Great Wall of Bedford

The Great Wall of Bedford

The weather was so nice the other day and we Frenchies spent a good part of it outside. The sun was shining warmly and we went to one of our favorite vantage points – The Great Wall of Bedford – right off the terrace overlooking the farm.

Shaun and Wilmer are really working hard in the gardens, getting them ready for winter. Francesca and I were out chasing squirrels the other day and decided to take a break from that and help out with some of the chores. You know we’re such good workers and our help is always appreciated.

Maine in autumn

Maine in autumn

Silly me!  I just found these photos taken in early October, during the last time we went to Maine with Martha and her guests.  I must have misplaced the memory card.  We Frenchies take so many photos for our blog and I guess, once in a while, things can slip through a crack.  ‘Tsk-tsk,’ as …

Things are spooky at the farm!

Well, it’s Halloween time once again and you all know how much Martha likes this holiday. We, Frenchies, also enjoy the festivities, but we must admit that we do get spooked. Even one of the new cats, Empress Tang, experienced a little hair-raising. Come and take a look and happy, spooky Halloween …

Recently, on a bright and sunny day, Francesca and I were frolicking outdoors when we suddenly realized that we were very thirsty. We didn’t want to go all the way back to the house for a drink so, I came up with a plan. I remembered how Shaun, the gardener was using a …

We LOVE glitter!

Francesca and I were looking through the November issue of Living the other day – you know, the one with the turkey on the cover – and got so excited to see my photo all done up with glitter. We LOVE glitter and this is a really great story. Basically, if you log …

A visit to the pumpkin stand

A visit to the pumpkin stand

Posted by Sharkey

Franny and I were driving around the other day when we spotted a very colorful place on the side of the road.  Just for fun, we decided to check it out and discovered it was pumpkin stand, selling all kinds of decorations for Halloween.  Of course, Martha has her own pumpkin patch and has been …
