Meet Sharkey

I was born on February 18, 2005, in Trappe, Maryland. While my personality is laidback and easygoing, I’m always ready for a good adventure. If I see something I need to chase, like a squirrel, for example, I’m out the door and across the field without hesitation. I also really love to intimidate the donkeys even though a kick from them would probably really hurt. Francesca complains that I’m much too spontaneous and daring, but I just really like to have fun. I think Franny believes that I’m just not as smart as she is, but she is a bit of a snob.

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring!

Posted by Sharkey

As you know, we Frenchies, really love our couture. However, nothing beats going outdoors with just our birthday suits and feeling that warm sun on our furry backs. Quite suddenly, the cold temperatures disappeared and we were blessed with a stretch of really pleasantly warm and sunny days. And also quite suddenly, …

Pruning the Berry Patch

Pruning the Berry Patch

When you live on a farm, there are many chores to do.  Shaun, the gardener, has been really busy with his crew, getting the grounds all spruced up for spring.  Franny and I decided to explore the berry patch the other day and saw that it was really overgrown.  Berries need a good pruning every …

Dreaming of springtime

Dreaming of springtime

I was outdoors last week, dreaming of springtime, when I happened to see Fernando busy at work.  He was getting the pergola ready for some touch ups, before all the plants begin to grow and climb.  You may recall that I really love this pergola and all of the blooms that it supports.  Therefore, I …

What Happened to Susie?

What Happened to Susie?

Susie, Martha’s executive administrator in Bedford, spends a great deal of time with us, Frenchies.  One day, Susie didn’t come to work.  Then, another day passed and then, another, and we started to worry.  We couldn’t imagine what happened to Susie.  Then, one day, she finally came back to work and we were so happy …

I was sitting looking out over the farm the other day when I noticed a rather large bird circling overhead.  My initial response to this was – HAWK!!!  ALL SMALL ANIMALS TAKE COVER!!!  Then I realized that it was a turkey vulture and even though it has a tremendous wingspan up to 72 inches, there …

G.K. Encounters Rinze

G.K. Encounters Rinze

We Frenchies decided to take the Kawasaki out for a spin the other day and Martha asked us to take G.K. along for the ride.  We don’t mind as long as he knows he belongs in the back seat.  As we were passing by the stable, Betsy was coming back from a ride with Rinze …

Christmas Again?

Christmas Again?

Posted by Sharkey

There has been so much excitement around the house these past few days.  Wouldn’t you know it, just when it seemed that Laura Acuna finished putting away the last few Christmas decorations, out they all came again.  The reason is because a crew from the magazine is here photographing for next holiday season.  The best …

What Hides Beneath all of G.K.'s Fur

What Hides Beneath all of G.K.'s Fur

Yesterday we, Frenchies, were sleeping peacefully, when we were awaked by the sound of running water.  We looked over to the sink only to see a strange and skinny little animal being bathed.  On closer inspection, we discovered that it was a dog, but we couldn’t imagine why another new dog would be in our …

Sharkey Goes to the Vet

Sharkey Goes to the Vet

I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather, which probably is an exaggeration, since the weather around here has been horrid – cold, windy, and rainy, with a lot of snow on the way.  Anyway, I was coughing quite a bit and it was suggested that I might have swallowed something that got caught somewhere.  …

Franny and I have been working hard making G.K. feel welcomed.  Well, maybe not so much Franny.  Getting used to a dog brother is a big adjustment and you know how territorial dogs can be.  Franny is very set in her ways and she’s had to learn to back off considerably.  Take a look at …
