Meet Francesca

I entered this world on December 13, 2004, in Pinewood, Minnesota. I’m a bit older and certainly far wiser than Sharkey. Like Sharkey, I’m also friendly and quite curious, but I’m more cautious about letting my curiosity get me into trouble. I must admit that we do have fun together. I just know when to stop. Martha describes me as being a bit obsequious, but that’s just my ability to pull the wool over her eyes. I’m just clever! I do have a high opinion about myself, and my fashion sense is magnifique! In fact, Je suis fabuleuse (I am fabulous.)

Picking up Two New Fig Trees!

Today on Martha’s blog, she posted a lot of photos taken at an estate sale in Connecticut.  She told Uncle Carlos to drive the van and pick something up.  So, we all piled in and drove to the sale.

It’s no secret that we Frenchies love to chase squirrels.  This autumn, there are so many of those critters all over the farm – a real population explosion.  We like to feet our feathered friends and those squirrels really take advantage of the situation.

If you’re a fan of Japanese Maple trees, then you most likely know that crisp autumn is when those beautiful trees put on an amazing display.  Our grove of trees, planted a few years ago, is growing very nicely.

Storing the Tropical Plants Away for the Winter

Storing the Tropical Plants Away for the Winter

With cooler temperatures arriving, our winter wardrobe has been emerging little by little.  We got to thinking that if we’re getting cold outdoors, then all of the tropical potted plants must be feeling it too.  We know how much the farm crew has to do to prepare for the cold months ahead, so we, Frenchies, …

A Visit to Our Very Own Christmas Tree Farm

A Visit to Our Very Own Christmas Tree Farm

In the spring of 2009, Martha thought it would be a good idea to plant a Christmas tree field at the farm and document it for her television show.  It was quite a big deal, as more than 600 trees were put in the ground that day.  I am happy to report that most of …

We, Frenchies, have given you so many tours of the farm, as there are so many fascinating things to share and learn about.  We’ve taken you to the stable many times to visit the horses and donkeys, but there is a lot of history to visit, as well.

Decorating for Autumn

Decorating for Autumn

Now that autumn is here, it’s time to decorate for the upcoming holidays.  Pumpkins and gourds are so colorful and festive and it’s wonderful decorating with them.  Of course, it helps that we had a bountiful harvest here at the farm.

Have You Ever Heard of Catamole?

Have You Ever Heard of Catamole?

We Frenchies often catch sight of the cats sleeping in the most unusual places and they seem to take great liberty in choosing those spaces.  We’ve come to accept that we just never know where we’ll find one of those fur balls all curled up and fast asleep.

Shagbark Hickory - Another Amazing Tree

Shagbark Hickory - Another Amazing Tree

We Frenchies have noticed that the sun is dipping lower in the sky and that the days are getting shorter.  We figured that we better get in as much outdoor playtime as possible before it gets really cold.  We went to play in one of our favorite grove of trees when no sooner did Sharkey …

Passing through the greenhouse the other day, we noticed that some of Martha’s beautiful orchids were blooming.  We Frenchies love so many types of flowers and especially orchids!
