Posted by F&S

Yesterday we Frenchies explored an area of the farm that we've not been to before.  Imagine that!  Uncharted territory!

Hey Sharkey, let's follow Ryan into the basement of the greenhouse and see what's going on down there.

Wow, Francesca! This is the furnace that heats the greenhouse in cold weather to keep the plants alive. This thing has sure been working overtime this winter!

Now I know where to look for peony rings to keep herbaceous peonies upright in the spring.

You just push the four legs around the plant and the peony grows up through the grid on the ring - a very clever design.

Sharkey, it looks like Ryan and Wilmer have been doing a lot of organizing on these metal shelves.

Franny, there are plenty of berry boxes on these shelves. I can't wait for berry season to begin!

There are also crates of little seed pots.

  • Good Friday Morning everyone!!!!!
Ladies, you are looking good and warm in your sweaters.
We never knew a green house could have a basement. Interesting.
So Mom is all excited about some trip the humans of the Glue Squad are planning. Wait a minute, if it was not for us furry critters there would not be a Glue Squad, right? So we are NOT invited, right? We think something about those plans are WRONG! We better get really good treats is all we have to say about that.
Well, the weather peeps are saying we are in line for lots and snow and ice this Sunday and Monday. Our temps are already in the bargain basement, again.
Even I, Brutus, am getting a little tired of this winter.
Well, it's sunny out now, so we are off to the patio.
Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe, stay warm.
    Pugs and shiver-y kisses,
    Brutus and Max

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You sweet, wonderful girls certainly did give us some fantastic information about the greenhouse having a wonderful basement to protect it during the extremely cold, snowy winter! We didn't even know you had a basement under the greenhouse! These photos you shared certainly give us some great information just like Martha does on her blog! Love to see all of those things in that basement and fun to see Guy Wolff's beautiful pots! Putting the seeds in that refrigerator was interesting, also! Does Martha have basements under some of the other special greenhouses? Sure hope you sweet girls and GK have another great weekend and stay safe and warm! Please hug GK again for me! Didn't see any comments from our other buddies yet so will check back later! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Good morning everyone,
I tried several times to get on the DW this morning and I finally got to do it. I didn't know that greenhouses have basements. But why would I? Karen doesn't have any plants, none that are living anyway. Hehehehe. And the Roberts have beautiful plants all over their yard but no greenhouse. That is very interesting.
Well gang, another big snowstorm headed our way. It is bitter cold here. Even though we have lots of fur, when it is like 10 below zero it is cold on our feet if we are out for any length of time even though we have thick pads. We are supposed to get about 16 inches this weekend. Karen walks around outside with her sock monkey hat on and naturally her shorts, just shaking her head. Poor poor woman. Hehehehehehe
I hope everyone stays nice and warm this weekend and I hope Zoe's acupuncture and herbs help her. I knew she would like the acupuncture. I hope Chloe stays nice and comfortable and I hope The doctors can find out what is wrong with James and fix him up.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
Don't look so sad Sharkey, Spring will be here before you know it and warm weather. I like the frig where you keep the seeds. That is a very cool (hehehehehehe) idea. My folks keep their seeds in an airtight wooden box Dad made. All the organized pots and furnace room, look like a neat place to play hide and seek.

Well, buddies, Mom and I are filling out our ballots for the Oscar Party. I am not too jazzed that the party is at my sister, Sara's house, but Mom promises to leave the t.v. on and bring home treats for me. So even though it is a party I can't attend, it is a party after all and that means, yahooooo!!

Snow to be moving in, not much, but later today, so hopefully a walk first. Buddies, everyone have a GEM of a weekend and be warm and safe.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello Glue Squad Nation!
That greenhouse looks amazing and our Mom would be in 7th heaven to be able to work in/with a resource like that! OMG what an amazing place. Well, its so sunny today, BUT very deceiving. Its brutally cold out here, we are out for maybe 10 minutes max, then even we with our double coats and extremely hairy feet want in. Our cats won't even venture out the door .... Max and Guinness look outside and think they want to go, but when the door opens they change their mind very quickly. They are OK, they have a catbox so don't really need to go outside like us.
Well, nothing much of note to report, we would like to be invited to the HAPPENING as well, but that's not going to happen so we'll just be content to hear all the news and views! Gotta go, its time to get off the computer .... have a safe weekend, keep warm, stay healthy, and for Zoe and Chloe, work on being well. Love Riley boy, Miz Lu and Martha.

  • Good morning ladies,
A basement under the greenhouse, how great is that? I was wondering how the plants stayed warm this winter. I bet it smells good down there, too. All earthy and such.
Just when I was happy with grass (all be it frozen) under my feet, I heard the weatherman. Oh, brother, more snow. Even Mimi is tired of this winter and that's saying something. She is so weird, she even likes to shovel. I also heard that this weekend all the Spring decorations are coming out of the closet. Trying to give Mother Nature a hint.
It will be a quiet weekend for us, hope it is a good one for Zoe, Chloe and James.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi Y'all,
Girls, please tell me that the basement has another entrance to level ground or at least a lift. Wouldn't want to be the ones that had to tote all that soil and those pots up and down the steps. Otherwise, very cool. Most nurseries with this set up have coolers in the basements too. They pre-cool bulbs and plants like Easter Lilies and Hydrangeas to force them into early bloom. Then once the chill time is over, they take them up-top to sprout. Very cool indeed! Thanks for discovering this for us!
Guys, I know that this has been a tough week for us. But please let's keep the faith and remember the blessings that are with us everyday. Our prayers to Chloe, Zoe and James, that you feel Gods' healing and peace. This week goes to show us that our time here is short indeed; make everyday the best day ever!
That said, I'm sorry to hear that our friends to the north are in for more winter weather. While you are receiving snow on Sunday and Monday, we will be 66 degrees with showers on Monday but a beautiful Sunday. Mis said something about working in the yard. Woooopeeee! We like it when she spends time outside. George is sure to be able to put his 'Branch Management' skills to good use! I just supervise. And she needs all the supervision she can get!
Everyone have a Doggy Good Day and Weekend!
    Dixie Boy

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well today is the day I don’t like already. I have a vet appointment this afternoon. This time I will be getting the “works” with all that poking and checking everything out. I guess I’ll get my nails done too. Now I know why I got a bath a few days ago. When it’s cold outside, I don’t get as many baths as I usually do. On the brighter side of tings, I have been getting to remove my “cone” for a little while. Only thing about that is after 15 minutes I grab my hind foot and start chewing; on with the cone again. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • :-) Who knew that the Stewart Farm had a seed and heat Bunker! Love how everything is in Martha Stewart ORDER...it's a good thing! I've learned to try and be like that, so I can find things...Like with Like I say ;-)

Oh dear Dixie Boy you are so right! I Praise God every morning, no matter what kind of weather, after all, I'm here and He has Blessed me in so many ways...thanks for the reminder ;-)

Max and Guinness, my fat Kitty does the same thing you guy do...look outside, then the door opens, she changes her my mind very quickly and runs back in.

Our prayers to Chloe, Zoe and James, and Kirby Bear be patient...prays are sent to all to be happy and enjoy your Love from your family.

Karen walking around outside with only a sock monkey hat and shorts? Do you wear anything on top??? Wish I had a photo, it leaves a lot to the imagination he he ;-)

Hey Lynn, enjoy the party at your sister Sara's house...I know you will! You can always get liquored up and have a ball.

    Have a Grand weekend everyone!
    Hugs,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad Buddies - How neat to see the greenhouse basement and planting materials. If Mom had one, she'd know where all her planting tools & pots would be-in one place for sure. Spring has to be around the corner. We are ready NOW. Another cold day even though the sun is shining and we are suppose to get snow Sunday into Monday also. Hope Zoe, Chloe & James are doing better. Ruby, sounds like you will be watching "Oscar" alone :( , be sure Mom brings something home for you. Good luck, Kirby with your appointment today, keep us posted. Maddox, got to love Karen, hehe.. No big plans for me except I'm off to the spa tomorrow. Have a great weekend everyone, stay warm ;)

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo
