Visiting The Greenhouse And Finding Orchids

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies went exploring in the Greenhouse the other day and found some beautiful orchids blooming.  It's so nice to have flowers to look at during such a long and frigid winter.

Did you know there are more than 25,000 species in the world that occur naturally, plus many more which have been developed by orchid growers?

  • Good morning everyone,
The flowers are beautiful. You girls make me laugh with sone of your facial expressions. We woke up this morning to the white stuff again. We are supposed to get three snow storms this week. Even I, who loves the cold, am tired of it. Every time you come into the house from outside, they run for towels to dry the snow off of everyone. It is like getting a bath without getting into the tub. So that means 3 snow baths in one week. Hehehehehe
Well, we all know what I am going to say next. FOOTBALL
We have some very happy and some very sad Glue Squad members today because some were big fans of the winning team and some were big fans of the losing team. I will not mention any names but we know some people are so sick about the results. They call that Super Bowl Flu. When you have this flu you don't want to go to work to face the other workers, you don't want to answer the phone cause you know your friends are calling to tease you for being on the losers side. All I will say is I hope Lynn and Ruby get over thr flu real quick and I think it would ve appropriate for Lucinda and Chewy to send them a get well card as they are celebrating their win.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Sorry,
I forgot I would not mention the names of the football fans who lost. All I can say is My Bad !!!!! Hehehehehe
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

Those orchid plants are amazing. Mom has one in the kitchen and it has 3 green leaves and 2 sticks, ugly looking thing. I keep thinking to myself why doesn't she throw that thing out then the next thing you know BOOM here comes a magnificent flower.

So some of our glue squad buddies are happy the others sad. My dad is happy happy happy he won lots of money money money :) I have to say it was a very boring game however mom had great food. Oh well now we are moving on to golf and baseball. And remember Ruby and Lynn there is no crying in football!!

It's raining here right now but the snow is moving in YUK!!! I'm so over this :(

  • Hello Girls & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
Yes, it is a hard day when my Broncos did loose, but I may be sad, but then I am happy for all my buddies that their team the Seahawks won. Chewy, Chiweenies and Dudley your team is the World Champion and how very cool. At least if I have to be in shock over my boys loosing I have friends I can be happy for that their team won. And guys, do not fear, I am a good sport, and have the baker in the house cranking out the Warrior Prince Biscuits to cover my bets.

These orchids are beautiful. We have them all in our little greenhouse except #8. That is unusual. Maybe I need to show it to Dad for upcoming Valentine's Day. Yep, now on to another party to plan. And most important of all, I have something new to add to my resume--Firedog Ruby. Mom was boiling the beans for the refried beans Saturday and sat down and promptly fell asleep, and the next thing you know, smoke and burnt beans, and me pouncing on her legs. Yep, I didn't go out my doggie door, by woke Mom up and saved her and we got the pan off and smoke out. So she says I am getting lots of those Warrior Prince Biscuits too, and you know the lesson learned here---always buy refried beans in the can.

Now, we are due for 2 more snows this week, one tonight and a big one Friday night---and Zoe's parents are coming to town on Saturday. I hope the weather geeks are wrong, and it is a dusting Friday.
Everybody, have a GEM of a day, and congrats again to all my Seahawk Glue Squad Buddies.

    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, How fun to see your latest blog about those beautiful orchids that Martha has in her wonderful greenhouse at her beautiful Bedford farm that you sweet, beautiful girls love to visit!! I would love to be there and enjoy all the fun things that you do and I'll bet GK would love to see the orchids, also! Did you sweet girls and GK get to see the football championship game on TV on Sunday? Mom and I did watch most of it and it was marvelous to see our Seahawks win the championship! It has been many years for a Seattle championship to happen and we even heard people outside after the game yelling, cheering and using some fireworks from the 4th of July! Sure hope Ruby and Lynn feel OK after their Broncos didn't win for them to enjoy-very sad for them. Sure hope all of you have a great day no matter what and will check back later to read your comments! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Good morning Francesca, Sharkey and Glue Squad Buds.
Ladies, you two look like you partied a little too much yesterday. Or could it be the fragrance of the orchids? Hmmmmmm.
This weekend Mom put all her snowmen collection stuff away and hauled out Valentine stuff. Our house looks like someone threw up red, pink and white hearts! Guess it could be worse.
Congrats to all the Seahawks fans. We watched as much as we could stand (actually when the food ran out so did we).
Ruby we are so proud of you! Ruby to the Rescue! Sounds like a great name of a book, right?
We heard that ground hog in Pennsylvania saw his shadow yesterday and there's 6 more weeks of winter. Maybe next year he should sleep in! Right?
Must be off....things to do, naps to take, gotta check out the food bowl (found three strips of bacon earlier--bingo!)
    Pugs and Monday kisses
    Brutus and Max

  • Yes, Franny girl, you do look as lovely as that orchid! :)

It is nice to see some bright Spring like colors!

Another snow storm with accumulation headed to NH by mid week. Ugh,ugh and more ugh! :)

    Darn, Punxsutawney Phil! :)

  • Good morning ladies,
Pretty orchids for pretty ladies. Well, except for the tongue thing, really now Frannie. You're so funny! Did you gals watch the super bowl? I didn't. Mimi & Papa went to the neighbors. I guess everybody was pretty disappointed for our house it was because the folks like Manning and for the neighbors it was because they are from Colorado.
Well, Ruby & Mama Lynn, we tried, it's easy for the folks to put on blue & orange because of the Illini and the Bears, but, sadly, it didn't help.
Good job, Ruby! Big "hooray" to you.
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I do have to say that the flowers are beautiful even though I don’t like flowers that much. I guess it’s because my Mommy yells at me for trying to water them with my portable water supply. Hehehehe I even tried to water a plant in the house one time. Boy, did I learn not to do that real quick. All the snow is gone and it’s back up into the 60’s again. The weather man, or person, says it will be cold for a few more days later on this week. So much for the news and weather; now for the sports. What can I say except that those birds did a really bad thing to those ponies and then rubbed their nose in it. I’m out of here.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • :-) Oh what beautiful orchids! I learned something new today about this species! My little orchid gets buds and takes months to come into a bloom, boy it's hard to have patients with my orchid.
Franny you are too funny making faces and so appropriate! That rare red orchid looks expensive, but it would be nice I'd Lynn's hubby bought her one for V-day. Speaking of Lynn, what can I say....you are a sport indeed...too bad the score was so ugly. And what's this about retried beans being retried? Good thing your firedog Ruby was in the house! Yep I made refried beans from scratch once and it was way too time consuming for the result...give me a can any day.
Hope that Zoe can come and visit with you Ruby and Lynn. ;-)
It's sunny right now but -6 and expecting a snow storm...what ever!

    Have a great Monday!
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hello All our GS buddies: What wonderful orchids Mama Martha has, we would love to be able to mosey around that greenhouse with our Mom! Although Riley boy would probably find a spot that just needed some excavation, he's always on the lookout for such places! Well, our condolences to Mama Lynn and Miss Ruby Gem, it was a very disappointing game for them, OMG the Broncos just couldn't make anything happen, with that amazing Seahawk defense. We loved the opening when the teams came out - the Broncos had that classy white horse to lead their team, so cool! And the half time show was great, was anxious to see what Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was going to wear - he actually had pants on (usually he just wears a work sock to cover strategic parts!) That would have been a serious wardrobe malfunction for sure! Congrats to all the SH fans, there is always next year, right!
Very sunny and somewhat milder out today, we are all outside sitting in the garden, just spectating at the gate and watching the world go by, waiting for Spring to happen! Martha had a great birthday and we did get out to run - a good time was had by all! Well gotta go, Love and Beardie Bounces to all, Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Hello Franny,Sharkey and Firedog Ruby,
So wonderful to see the beautiful orchids and inside the pretty greenhouse. Especially with all this white cold precipitation falling down. Jimmy told me to call it precipitation, just yukko snow to me.
Congratulations on Ruby's quick save! You go girlfriend!
Hope everyone is catching up on rest after Superbowl Sunday. We only saw part of the game since my Mom is a huge Downton fan. I am a chips and snacks fan.
Almost a blizzard outside, I am not amused. We will work on Valentine crafts today. Thanks to all my buddies for being such good friends,
    Abby the pug/peke/frenchie

  • Good Monday to everyone! Hi Francesca Baby, looking pretty as always, although you might want to think about getting some of FirstMama's Blissful Dog Nose Butter on that dry nose of yours. It's SO hard to stay moisturized without a good skin care regime, isn't it?
I hope people all liked the football game no matter which side they were on; congratulations to people who rooted for the winners and sorry sorry to people who didn't. Mom watched the pretty lady sing the National Anthem so VERY beuatifully and then she turned the channel.
It was an excellent episode of Downton Abbey and her other favorite Sunday night shows, so we had a great evening and didn't have to spend it being anxious about our team, the way we have to in October when it is baseball.
    A bientot!

  • Hi Y'all,
What a great way to start this gloomy week! Love the exquisite Francesca variety at the end. Those Moth orchids do look like they have faces. Do you have any of the Dancing Ladies? I've forgotten the botanical name but they have clouds of flamingo dancing ladies in either yellow or reddish orange, sometimes lavender. These are super easy to grow and re-bloom well.
All I can say is OUCH! That Super Bowl wasn't a very fair fight. Sorry to the Bronco fans and congrats to the Seahawks. There's always next year!
Firedog Ruby, Great Save! I think Brutus and Max have a great idea. You need to write a children's book describing all of your adventures.
Well I'm officially back to being a bad boy! Last Thursday I pulled a Ruby Houdini on Mis. She was NOT happy! Especially when I pulled it again on Saturday. I willfully ran through my underground fence and into the nursery next door. Ahhhh FREEDOM! Mis is calling the lady to come and check my box out. BUMMER! George isn't in any good boy category either. He counter surfed last night while Mis and her sis were enjoying a glass of wine and a fire in the pit outside. Got two packs of Girl Scout cookies and ate every one then passed out on the couch. He's okay, just sugar overload! Could be mischievous overload!
Many of you will be experiencing snow multiple times this week. We will be experiencing rain! A dark, gloomy week ahead of us here with cool to cold temps. At least yesterday was glorious and warm. The armpit month is officially here! And Maddox, we get the same treatment here. It's like a carwash! We get wet, come inside and immediately get toweled off. But it feels great! And our fur gets so soft from the rain water. It's great to have humans who care for us so much. We cause a lot of headaches but when it comes down to it, they love us dearly!
Everyone stay safe and warm today.
    Dixie Boy
PS.... Martha, happy belated Birthday! Mis didn't realize until now that I escaped and ran free in honor of your birthday! Glad you had a great one!

  • We did it, we did it, we did it horray!! The Seahawks did it...and now it's snowing...Ruby, did you send this white stuff here?...and mom says we are supposed to get an artic blast~what ever that is~tue.-friday of this week...yuk..I need to have a serious talk with that Phil guy...6 more weeks of winter is not what I call a good time!...oh goodie, it's snowing harder and the flakes are getting bigger..AARRGGG I think I'll go take my noon nap early!
    Chloe, the Queen Chiweenie

  • Thank goodness for the orchid prettiness to make up for that ummm..."Super Bowl" yesterday. Ruby Gem and Lynn, I hope you all at least had great SB party food. Congrats to the Seahawks fans, your team is going to be a terror for the next few years. Zoe's Daddy winning money = yay more goodies for you kids!

Could some East Coast GS buddy go find Mr. Phil and have a little chat with him about this 6 more weeks of winter please!
