Do You Know What A Pullet Egg Is?

Posted by F&S

Each afternoon, Phurba, who takes care of the chickens, collects their eggs and delivers them to the kitchen.  The eggs, with their various colors, are beautiful to look at.  The other day, something a little strange happened and we'd like to tell the Glue Squad about it.

Hey Franny, I heard some buzz about an especially tiny egg among the newest batch of eggs collected from the chicken coop. We should investigate!

Well, I've managed to get up on the counter, now I just have to find the tiny egg.

Ah ha! I see it!

Oh my, it is indeed tiny!

By comparison, it's less than half the size of a normal egg, Franny!

Hey Glue Squad, have you ever seen anything like this?

Franny, jump up and see for yourself.

Well, Sharkey, there's a good explanation for this. It's called a pullet egg, which is an egg laid by a chicken less than one year old.

Do you remember when the last batch of chicks arrived? Well, it looks like they're old enough now to be laying eggs. The eggs are small because the pullets are small.

Really Franny? How interesting!

Yes, interesting indeed! And what's more, pullet eggs are equally delicious as a full-size egg.

I think I'd like a pullet egg in my dinner tonight, how about you, Sharkey?

  • Good morning everyone,
Did you all see the different colors of eggs in that bowl? Amazing. Karen said Martha's eggs are very very good. And the yolks are are real dark rich color, almost orange. That must FE from all the good food the chickens get to eat.
Anyone watch the first part of Westminster dog show last night? It brought back memories of when I was there and won the breed and when GK was there the year after and he won the breed. Karen was on cloud nine. Tonight the second part is on. I will be flipping between that and the Olympics. I know Ruby is boycotting the Olympics for what they did to all those homeless dogs in Russia but I don't think that not watching us going to do anything to change what happened. She should get a bunch of people to write letters to the leader of that country. And our athletes had nothing to do with that. Neither did any of the other athletes. I am watching to support our United Dstates team because I am proud to be an American even though I have Chinese in my blood. Maybe I am what you call a duel citizen. What do you think Kirby and Missy Chow? Hehehehehe
Enjoy the day and est eggs for breakfast
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello Girls & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
All those eggs look so beautiful. It looks like Springtime. The omelets at your house sure must be tasty. Those tiny pullet eggs are just your girls size for your meals. Do chickens ever stop laying eggs? I know they are young now, but when they get old, do they retire? I do not know this egg stuff being a city girl.

I have to tell you all something really exciting that happened to me yesterday. I got my very own Junior Firefighter hat in the mail. I was given this honor by a real Firefighter for saving my Mom's life and waking her up over the burnt refried beans. That red sure does go well on this Ruby's head. Thank you and I will continue to make you proud.

Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I don’t like eggs that well but the cat really does like them. He gets one yoke almost every day. His Vet wanted to know why he was so shinny and Mommy told her that he liked egg yokes. He shines so much you can hardly look at him in the bright sunlight. Well maybe not that shinny, but you get what I mean. Having Chinese in me isn’t a problem at all. It’s that South Carolina in me that’s a problem living in Georgia. There is always something going on between these two states. Born in SC and living in GA; what a life.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! I have never seen such tiny eggs and the ones you sweet girls found and showed us are so amazing! These photos of the eggs that Phurba collected and brought into the kitchen are so yummy looking and how nice to see the tiny ones! Mom boils her eggs quite often and is so kind to give me some of the boiled eggs as a delicious snack! She always follows Martha's way of boiling them and they turn out perfectly! You girls look so cute in these photos! Sure hope you have a great warm and safe day! Please hug GK! It was so marvelous to hear from Maddox and Ruby this morning and all the information they shared is awesome! I absolutely love both of you and the other buddies, also! Hope you all have a great day and stay warm! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Way to go RUBY!!!! What an honor. You wear that hat with pride young lady.
    Love ya,
    Maddox

  • F&S, Martha's eggs are beautiful! The colors are so vibrant and varied that they could almost pass for dyed Easter eggs! Wouldn't it be fun if chickens laid pastel-colored eggs? The light green-colored natural ones almost qualify! Thank you! Bye!

  • Hello all the GS buddies:
Hopefully this post will get on today, we wrote yesterday and it didn't make it on the blog at all. We never write anything offensive, so we are at a loss to know why we didn't get posted? Anyways, those eggs look like the speckled candy eggs you can buy at Easter - very very pretty. We love eggs, really we love anything to do with food, but eggs are one of our favorites.
Nothing much happening today, grey and dreary, but at least not so cold as it has been.
Think we'll all go back to bed for a while ..... talk to you later - Love and Beardie bounces from Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Good morning Francesca, Sharkey and Glue Squad friends!
We have heard of pullet chickens and eggs, but we thought that was a breed of chicken. Will we learn something new every day, don't we. Thank you ladies.
Yes, Maddox this is the first year we get to watch both nights of Westminster in many years. Mom and us had a "popcorn" night on Monday. Wonder what snacks we will have tonight! We were cheering for the Chow, but they must not have heard us in New York. We really did like the Blood Hound, though. We thought he was really cute when he stretched before he made his walk. We just love Westminster Dog Show! And David Frei is a God among men as far as we are concerned.
Ruby...your very own Fire Helmet! Congrats! Now you can teach fire safety...bet you can do a mean "stop, drop and roll". hahahahaha
Well, it's minus 8 degrees this morning and the temps are not going much higher today. But there's lots and lots of sunshine.
Think it's time for some outside fun!
    Pugs and nipple-y kisses!
    Brutus and Max

  • Good morning ladies,
What a pretty little egg! A little, tiny surprise in the chicken coop. Hey, Frannie your face is starting to look like mine! Getting a bit of white around our mouths & eyebrows. Sharkey, will you just get whiter?
We (Mimi & me) watched Westminster last night. She loves the herding group the best and I said "Hey,now!" then she said that there are no Chihuahuas in the show that can stand up to me. O.K., that's better.
Isn't our Ruby girl something else? Keep up the good work protecting your wonderful forever family.
It's a sunny day again! Hooray! Off to find a warm, sunny place to snooze.
    Stay warm everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • :-) Now that's interesting! I really never thought about young chickens laying eggs. Learned something new...cute eggs, just the colors alone make them look delicious!

Yes, Maddox and GK you should be proud of Karens accomplishment of breeding outstanding Chows ;-)
Ruby wear that helmet with pride...you should be proud of saving mama Lynn, I mean what if you had not been there!? We don't want anything to happen to mama Lynn or you...or the whole family...so next time open a can of Rosarita refried beans, heat up in the Micro ha ha

Don't want to talk about the weather...BUT it's -14 right now....this has to stop! :-(

Kitty is getting cabin fever bad, she keeps on ringing the bell that hangs on the door to go out...she goes out sits in front of the door sniffs the air and has the sun keep her comfortable, a few minutes later she wants back in...what can I say!

Everyone be good and have a pleasant day!
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi Y'all from snowy NC!
It's SNOWING!!!!Oh, I LOVE the SNOW!!!!! Got to hurry so I can go back out and PLAY!
Mis had friends that gave her eggs from their chickens and they would slip pullet eggs in every now and then to mess with her. They were about the size of quail eggs. Love the different colors in that bowl. And you girls look marvelous!
Ruby, we need pictures of you in your hat. That's a very special award. Keep up the good work!
Kirby, from what we hear NC and SC have re-drawn the state line in accordance to the original land grant by the King and it won't be pretty when they make it official. People and businesses that had been in SC are going to be in NC with our higher gas prices, taxes and laws against selling fireworks etc.. All I can say is "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors", until someone figures out it's in the wrong place then all heck breaks loose!
    Okay, it's Still SNOWING!! WOOOOOHOOOOO!
    I'm gone!
    Dixie Boy

  • Aw, how cute, I have not heard of the Pullet Egg. I thought I first read "Pulling My Leg" :)

Let us know how it tasted! :)

    gail

  • Thank you, Francesca Baby and Sharkey for teaching me something new again today! I didn't know about pullet eggs OR pullets.
We watched a little bit of Westminster last night. Mom was looking to see all the pretty blingy show leads on dogs-- and there were a lot of pretty ones, but they never got close enough to see if any of them were ones she sold. And then of course we had to root for the Frenchie, Bobby, since we all either know him or his handler, Perry. Well, Roxy doesn't, but Mom, Millie, and I do. Mr. Perry took a picture of Mom and Millie standing in a shower once with a bunch of other people from French Bulldog Rescue Network. I don't know why they were standing in a dry shower with all their clothes on holding dogs except that it was a REALLY BIG shower.
Ah, the things that happen at a National Specialty!!
    A bientot!

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad - well, I'm bringing up my post at the end of the day a-g-a-i-n...Mom, this has to stop please...Thanks for the information on the eggs today, they look so pretty in the bowl and bet they taste twice as good. I'm sure there will be alot of cooking & baking with them. Maddox, dual citizenship, never thought of it that way, but you're right. You are always thinking :) . Ruby, congratulations on your reward. Did Mom take pictures of you wearing your hat yet? Now Dad will have to build you a rack to put all your hats on; nurses cap, chef, landscaper, fire helmet and don't forgot, football fan. In Zoe's absence, I'm taking her place in the naughty field this week, back to the p.t., bureau surfing, and checking out the back fence by sticking my nose in the snow. Mom & Dad are not happy with me; I think it's the full moon, what do you think? Mom says I'm not winning points whatever that means. We need warm temps to melt the snow, not more snow on Thursday :( .

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • And I thought this was going to be a piece on pullet eggs:)?! In fact, I'm quite fascinated by eggs and have wondered for the longest time about the difference between medium, large, and extra large eggs. Unfortunately, the hilarious faces of these two wumbachumbas kept me from comprehending exactly what's up with these smaller than small eggs...but all wasn't lost as I got a huge kick out of their adventure.

    Proud Frenchie Father,
    J
