A Very Sad Day At The Farm

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies don't like to be the bearers of bad news, but we need to share something with our Glue Squad family.  Yesterday was a very sad day at the farm.

You may remember the large canary cage where Martha keeps several red factor canaries, which are known for their bright feathers and beautiful song.

Well, recently, we had wonderful news that a couple of females had laid eggs and were busy sitting on tiny hatchlings!

There was no blood or any sign of struggle.

The four babies were so tiny and helpless looking.

The housekeepers put the little nest next to this happy light for warmth.

Sanu and Maria were fairly certain that two of the babies were alive and that two were sadly, dead, like their mother.

Maria lifted the top of the cage to place the nest back in.

There was hope that one of the other females might take over and start caring for the orphan babies.

It's with heavy hearts that we Frenchies must report that those chicks died as well. We are all so sad and no one can figure out the reason for this tragedy.

  • Hi Y'all,
Bless those lovely souls! So sorry to hear this girls. I will say, the mother looked so at peace. Thankful for that.
    Dixie Boy

  • Oh, I'm very sorry. Sad news indeed. I hope the babies will thrive and will be cared for by another Mommy bird.

    Hugs to all...
    gail

  • Ahhhhhhhh, that is sad news. Tell Martha she better check with a vet that is familiar with birds to see if they can figure out what happened. You don't want it to be something that is contagious. Poor little birdies.
I am going to end now. How can you be happy and upbeat when you see the poor mamma laying there and the little ones. Maybe I will come back later.
    Love to all,
    Maddox
PS -Basil, tell the others you have little birds coming to the rainbow bridge Take care of them

  • Good Morning F & S

This is very sad news, what a way to start HUMP day to wake up and see dead birds :( I hope it is nothing contagious, you better make sure the doctor comes to the house and checks out the rest of the gang.

I'm told more snow on the way oh happy happy happy - NOT!!!

I think I'm going back to bed and just starting this day over.

    Zoe

  • :-( now I could have gone all day without seeing the dead canaries....so sad! May they enjoy peace in birdie heaven. When I had canaries, someone once told me that canaries can "breed to death" or eggs get stuck inside of them (happened to one of mine)
Well this is a hump day downer :-(
Hope the rest of you have a better day...thanks anyway F&S, you just wanted us to know ;-)

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Oh, how sad to hear that that beautiful canary and her 4 new babies died in their cage in Martha's beautiful home. Bad things do happen and it's hard to deal with them. It's also sad to hear that Zoe and now Chloe are both sick and my prayers are with them and hope they get well real soon. I sure hope that the rest of the birds in those cages are doing well and love to see all of them. Sure hope you girls have a great day and please hug GK again. It was nice to hear from Dixie Boy, Gail, Maddox, and Zoe this morning and hope to hear from more of you very soon. God Bless all of you and stay safe and warm. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Mom and I are very sad about the deaths of the canary mother and babies. So sorry.

  • Good morning ladies,
Poor Mama bird and her babies. Like Dixie Boy said, they looked so peaceful. Maybe you girls could keep a watch on the bird cage and let Sanu and Maria know if anyone else looks ill.
    Til tomorrow, your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello F&S:
We are so sad to hear the news about the Baby birds and their mother. Our hearts go out to you all, and hope it does not spread to any other birds. May they rest in peace, and be reborn over the Rainbow Bridge. Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
It sure is Hump Day, and a sad one at that. Poor birdies. I am sure Basil and the gang at Rainbow Bridge have welcomed them and everyone is having a GEM of a time. I wonder if the cold had anything to do with it. Mom says when her grandmother raised canaries that they were always covered at night with a towel on their cage. Hope Martha Martha and the Super Detectives figure it out.

Mom is baking something that smells good to take to an old folks home when she visits today. What Mom you don't call it that---Memory Care, how in the world can you call it that? I care about toys not my memory. Oh geez!!

Well have a GEM of a day all!!
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad Buddies - How sad to hear about Mama Birdie and her babies. I hope the other birds are okay. They are in good company at the Rainbow Bridge. Zoe, so sorry to hear your news, your Mom & Dad will take good care of you and Chloe Chiweenie, not fair, I say, just not fair. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. What a sad Wednesday :(

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hello Glue Squad Nation,
Well, I checked back this morning to make sure I didn't miss anything last night on yesterday and suddenly a post from Sophie about Queen Chloe Chiweenie had appeared. It seems this "c" monster has struck again in our Glue Squad, so it is time to fight, and fight big. Everyone form your ranks and support big time.....The Littles, The Bigs, the Humans, we need to show how we stand strong and are there for love, prayers and support. Everyone hold your ranks!!!!! "C" Monster you have never met the likes of The Glue Squad. LEFT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT. Onward the battle begins and we are there through thick and thin and stuck on you, just like glue. Maddox, I am trying, but I am no professor.
    Love to all,
    Ruby Gem

  • Good morning all,
So very sorry to read about the Mama canary and her babies. She is now singing and flying free over the Rainbow Bridge. We hope she finds our brother, Sparky. Peace be with you, Mama and babies.
Zoe we are the Super Glue Squad and we will be with you during your journey. We will love and wrap you in our hearts, mind and paws. Just do what your Mom and doctors tell you to do and all will be right again.
    Love and kisses,
    Brutus and Max

  • Hello Glue Squad friends,
How very sad to hear all the news about the poor little Mama bird and babies passing away. I hope the others stay healthy and well.
Major snow flurries here today. Zoe, dear one, we hope you feel better real soon and that the holistic medication and acupuncture help you out. Chloe, our prayers are with you too. Feel better, little chiweenie friend.
Zoe, what day is it???? Hump day with the silly camel reminding us all to count our blessings for little, big, human and other Glue Squad buddies.
Take care all, wishing you all my best,
    Abby the pug/peke/happa dog

  • That is so sad to lose the mother and her babies. We hope this isn't something that will spread to the other birds!

  • I am so sorry to hear about this awful tragedy. I hope the mother and little chicks didn't suffer. Sending good thoughts to you all. I just know MommyM will track down the cause of this tragedy.
