Checking The Horses Before The Snow Storm

Posted by F&S

Hi Glue Squad!  We Frenchies are back!  We hope you all had a wonderful holiday.  Perhaps you've heard that the northeast was expecting blizzard conditions on Thursday evening.  Earlier in the day, we Frenchies headed down to the stable to check on the horses.

Francesca, the Friesian horses usually spent the nights outdoors in their paddock. However, with a snow storm on its way, tonight will be an exception.

Rinze, you and the other horses will be spending the night in your stalls.

There's a major storm headed our way and Betsy and Dolma are preparing your stalls for an overnight stay indoors.

That's right, Sasa - Betsy feels it would be just too dangerous for you outdoors tonight. She said that when it stops snowing in the morning, you can go and frolic in the fresh snow.

Dolma, please make sure that the horses have plenty of bedding and hay to eat during this stormy night.

Thanks, Frenchies, for being so concerned about us, but I'm sure that Betsy and Dolma will make sure that we have everything we could possibly need.

Betsy, are you reaching in your pocket for a horse treat?

  • Hello Francesca and Sharkey. Happy New Year!
So great having you back from vacation. We've missed you.
It's good to see Rinze, Sasa, Betsy and Dolma. We are sure everyone at the farm has batten down the hatches and all the animals are safe and warm.
We had about 5 inches of snow and the wind was picking up in the early evening on Thursday. Now the temps are dropping...single digits this morning. Guess it's a good thing Max got a coat for Christmas.
    Hey everyone.....it's FRIIIIIIIIDDDDDDAAAAYYYYYY!!!
Does anyone have any great weekend plans?
The Bengals are in the play offs this Sunday, but so far the stadium is not a sell-out. Oh well, Dad will be working and Mom will be in bed, so guess it doesn't matter to us.
Hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend.
    Pugs and kisses
    Brutus and Max

  • Good morning girls,
Welcome back. How was your winter break? Did you do or go anywhere interesting? I am glad you checked on the horses. I was surprised though to find out that the horses are usually in their paddock at night. I always thought that horses go in to their stables every night. Interesting.
Well gang, this new year is cold, full of snow and perfect. For chows and other double coated breeds that is. I don't know if this is weather that James Dean enjoys or not. I don't know how long Black Mamma's coat is but I bet she likes a nice warm barn.
Kirby, come on up. Snow just about every other day anymore. You will love it. Little ones like Abby and Zoe, Rebel, Dudley and some others would have to wear tracking devices so we could find them in the deep snow. Hehehehehe
Well, duty calls. Karen has to make a path to the kennel and then she has to clear out a couple excercise yards so the dogs can go out to take care of business and make doggie angels in the snow. I will lead the way. I better take some biscuits in a little nap sack in guess we get lost. I know it is straight down and only about 20 yards from the house but I want to be prepared. You never know when I think I deserve a treat so I must have them readily available Hehehehe
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Happy New Year to all of you great buddies, F,S,&GK plus all the people involved with The Daily Wag and all of you animal parents, etc.!!! Sure hope your snow and wind go away very soon so Martha and her family can get back home safely and you and your friends at Bedford farm can go outside safely again! You two sweet girls sure did have fun going to the stable to see your Friesians and stable friends before the snow came! Bet you and the Kitties will have to stay inside awhile! Was so much fun to hear from our Glue Squad members over the great holidays commenting on your blogs and in my email! Mom had been so busy getting wood ready to burn that she didn't get to read all of the comments yet so will do it real soon! Hope all of you are well and having fun! Love, Dudley Do right XOXOXO+

  • Good Morning F & S

Glad to see you are back from vacation. I would have thought the horses would spend the night indoors?? I would be scared staying out there in the dark.

Well the snow has arrived and with it the COLD!!!! Mom was out there twice shoveling a path so I could go poop. Then when mom tried to put on my winter parka on I had a slight problem it wouldn't button, I must have put on a pound or two around the holidays - it fit last year OR maybe it shrunk at the dry cleaners :)

Mom and dad had an argument this morning because she had to get to work because closings were scheduled and she wanted to run the snow blower at 5:30 to get her car out and he said it was too early it would wake the neighbors. Well I think mom is right what is the sense of having a blower if you can't use it to dig your car out if you need to go to work???? She said some curse words and left for work - oh well all I can say is dad better have that driveway clean before she gets home.

Mom will be at the Eagles playoff game tomorrow night she better dress warm it's going to be really cold. I hope they win!!!

Stay warm everyone and have a nice weekend!!

    Zoe

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
It is so good to have you girls back from vacation. Where did you go, what did you do? It is soooo cool to see everyone getting the horses and houses ready for the snow. As for me, it will be 60 today and maybe a couple inches over the weekend. I was up at 4 checking to see if any snow had arrived. NOT!! Oh, darn. Kirby, I think the idea Maddox had is a good one of the trackers, not just for small dogs, but in case a big dog gets lost in the snow. Hope you medicine is working on your eyes. As for the weekend the men are working on construction projects and Mom and I are just trying to keep our heads on straight. LOL!!!! It sounds like the snow on the East coast is going to be a whopper. Since I seem to be in a tropical heat wave, you can always send me photos so I can dream. Everyone have a GEM of a weekend.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Good morning ladies,
Back to our routine! Yea! I bet the horses really appreciate Betsy & Dolma. The horses should feel cozy in that great barn. Did you gals get a treat?
I'm still recuperating from the New Year Eve party. I managed to stay up with the humans til midnight and nobody was even feeding me. There was a lot of floor space to keep clean, though. I was on duty. My host and friend Bill did manage to "drop" a couple bits of turkey.
It's way too cold for me. Mimi shoveled out a place for me to do my thing so I don't need to walk in the snow. I do not trail blaze. It's in my contract.
I do keep my tail straight up in the air so they can see where I am. I did visit Rabi Neuman who lives next door. We were both surprised to see each other outside. He is very old & I am very small & we both get very cold.
    Morning nap time is calling.
    Have a safe weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello F&S - glad to see you got back alright from vacation. The horses look very happy and content in their stables, I'll bet they think its just fine to be indoors, out of the elements.
Its sooooo cold up here, we've never felt such cold, was -20F this morning with the wind chill. Last night Miss Martha refused to go out for a walk - that's a first - she and Riley (me) went outside and she just sat down outside the front door. Mom coaxed her to the end of the driveway but she sat down again and that was it for her. Mom took her back to the house and Mom and I continued on. However, we only went around the block and about half way I also just wanted to go home. Miz Lu went with Dad and she lasted about half way before she sat down as well. So, everyone was exceedingly glad to get home. This morning we went out for about 5 minutes to take care of business, and then we were back in the house. It is supposed to warm up this weekend, OMG for us to refuse to go out on a walk, that's really cold! Well, I'm off to the groomers, I'll send a picture to you all of my new do when I get home. Love and Beardie bounces, Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad Buddies - Welcome Back, hope you enjoyed the holidays and vacation. What did you do? It was nice of both of you to check on the Friesians, they seemed to enjoy your visit too. Well, we are in snow country this morning, starting yesterday and hopefully coming to end sometime this morning. Dad said we may have gotten over a foot (+); wind chill factor, minus (??), looks like the sun is trying to come out, but it's still going to be coooold!! Ruby, if you catch the "red eye" tonight, you will definitely have a few days of snow to play in here on the East Coast, how about it?? :) Maddox, I like the idea of packing some biscuits, Mom never leaves home without a snack too. I don't think I will be spending too much time outside today, Dad has only cleaned a path for me so far to do my "thing", so I guess I have to patrol inside, hehe..Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hello from another Pacific Northwesterner - we've got clouds and rain but basically pretty mild here, I can't imagine how difficult it must be to do horsekeeping in the kinds of storms you folks have - I have horses too (drafties)and they're such weather weenies that raindrops bring on the "let us in the barn now mom" faces! So cute to see the Frenchies wanting to share horse treats - my Jack Russells learned to love carrots from watching the horses' obvious enjoyment of them, now if horses get carrots so do the Russells.

  • :-) Love seeing you two with the Black Beauties...they look so comfy in the their beautiful stalls. They should be accustomed to cold weather being a breed from the Netherlands.

F&S I do hope you had a grand Holiday with your MS family...

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=
