Brewing Compost Tea

Posted by F&S

It's common knowledge that if you want to be strong and healthy, you need to eat a healthy diet.  This rule also applies to plants.  The other day, we Frenchies, helped out in the vegetable greenhouse when it was time to feed the tomato plants compost tea.

Here we are in the vegetable greenhouse helping out with the Compost Tea System. This thing has been brewing a rich liquid fertilizer for the past 24 hours.

For a little added zest of microbial action, the Compost Tea Catalyst Booster is added near the end of brewing.

I'll just dump a generous scoop into the brew.

Another addition to the brew is some organic seaweed and some fish fertilizer.

The label says the fish has been deodorized - hmmm....I wonder how they do that?

  • Well ladies, who knew that all this went into growing good tomatoes. I thought you just plant them and water them. I am learning so. Uh from you little fur encyclopedias. Thanks. I wonder if Ryan taste tests the tea before he gives it to the tomatoes. Hehehehe
Everyone is sleeping right now so I raided my biscuit stash. It is hard to eat biscuits quietly. I have my head jammed under three blankets with a pillow in top of that. It is really hot for my head but my taste buds are very happy. I better chew fast before someone wakes up
I will check in later. By the way, we saw James Dean on Face Book. He was on the Dutchess County Animal Hospital page. He looked very dignified.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! That great compost tea that Ryan and Wilmer added to those tomato plants in the greenhouse was wonderful and it must make all of those vegetables much more healthy for every one to eat and enjoy! You two sweet girls sure did a great job helping Ryan and Wilmer add that delightful compost tea! I'm sure Mom would like to get the organic seaweed and the fish fertilizer for her vegetable plants! You girls look so charming and very happy to help Ryan and Wilmer! Hope you have another great day and be sure to hug GK! Dixie Boy, sure hope Jeff's kitty Tabitha's eye is doing much better! Nice to hear from Maddox and Zoe this morning and will check back later to hear from all the rest of you buddies! Stay warm, safe, and healthy! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Boy am I excited today. The weather says that we will be getting two, that’s two, inches of snow today. Thank you Maddox for sending some of your snow down here. I can hardly wait to go out in it and run, and run, and run. Things are looking good for me but not so good for those sled dogs which will be racing this weekend. The warm weather is melting the snow and the Yukon Quest may have to start at another location because the Ice on the Chena River is too thin. It was well above freezing yesterday in Fairbanks, Alaska. The same thing is happening all through Alaska; only one place where the dogs will be racing in the Iditarod Trail was below freezing yesterday. It still can turn cold and I hope it does. Those dogs can’t pull sleds in slushy snow.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • :-) Hmmm, sounds like it would be stinky fishy smell! F&S you get into everything, just be careful, as something's can be poisonous...but then you girls are watched over at all times ...I'm just saying ;-)
Yesterday a big Buck about a 6 or 8 pointer ran around in our back yard with his head stretched out and mouth open...I thought how weird and then noticed several other young bucks being chased by him...Spring is in the air for animal :-)

Ruby sweets tell mama Lynn to contain herself watching her team this weekend (I think this weekend!)
Maddox, I have to look up the FB page for James Dean.
Kitty is soooo fat and lazy, she needs to go and exercise, chasing something...anything!

Have a pleasant day with your furfriends :-)

  • Hello Girls & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
Compost tea for the veggies. Dad does that, but not so fancy as you and Mama Martha and the gang. I bet you will have the healthiest veggies in town. Everything needs nutrition I hear. Mom and Dad started me on this stuff called Cod Liver Oil. They tried Fish Oil capsules and I would spit them out. I am a very good detective on pills. So they researched and most liquid versions of Fish Oil are orange and lemon flavored for the humans. I got the real deal with the Cod Liver Oil. Only 1/2 teaspoon a day because it is just for my coat while it is so dry. I sure hope George doesn't get sick from the raw chicken. And George if you get put in a crate, you could end up with crate teeth like me. I wish we could get you a dog whisperer to tell us what you are thinking. I think you could be scared that Mis is going to leave you. Just sayin' George. I have plenty of issues, so if we have a dog whisperer in our midst, speak up. Got about 4 inches of snow and it is melting quick, so I better go butt vroom while the going is good. Everyone keep warm and have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi Y'all from the soon to be white with snow, eastern NC!
Those greenhouses sure look cozy and the plants are really going to love drinking that special tea. You girls are sure intently watching every move.
Update on Tabitha: She is doing much better, the eye has cleared some and she attacked Kim this morning. Hell Cat's Back!
Winter weather is here! Expecting 5" to 10" for our area. George is going to freak! This is going to be fun! We are all in butt vroom mode already!
    Stay safe and warm buddies!
    Dixie Boy

  • Good afternoon Francesca, Sharkey and Glue Squad!
Mom brews tea most every morning but we don't think it's the same....no smelly fish poop here....just English Breakfast. hahahaha
Sorry we are late posting, since the temps are below nothing schools are closed all over so Kayla and Logan spent the night and today with us. Then this morning we helped Mom cook breakfast....biscuits and sausage gravy and sausage sticks.....BIG YUMMO!!!
Dixie Boy.....you are so lucky getting all that snow and glad Tabitha is OK. Ruby glad to hear you can butt vroom...at least for a little bit. Oh and thanks....Mom bought some Cod Liver Oil and now we have fish breath! We hope it helps with the dry skin. George, can't even imagine eating raw chicken. Kirby Bear, maybe they should have that sled race in Ohio we have plenty of frozen snow.
Must be off.....we think we smell cookies baking! We love these snow days!
    Stay warm, stay safe.
    Pugs and snow covered kisses.
