The Best Gift Ever!

Posted by Pia

I think I may have gotten the best holiday gift ever! Remember when I first met the little orphaned squirrel, Ms. Frances? Well, since her release back into the wild, I have been quite curious as to how she is faring...

Hmmmm... Who's this coming to ask for a nut? It certainly looks like Frances...

Frances... Is it really you? You've grown into such a lovely young lady! We've missed you!

Oh my... And you are still best buds with this sweet squirrel who was so tiny when you met in rehab!

I'm happy to share the above photos, sent to me by wildlife rehabber Maggie!
Apparently Maggie recently woke up to one happy squirrel, perched on her porch requesting a treat! After offering up a nut to this familiar soul, Maggie felt relatively certain that this was Ms. Frances back for a visit!

The following day, Maggie again received a visit from her squirrel friend.... and this time she was accompanied by the squirrel friend with whom she was rehabilitated months earlier! Alas, Maggie got to breath easy- knowing the orphaned squirrels she had raised together and taught to be independent, were still looking out for one another! Enjoying the freedom she had assured and thriving as nature had intended!

I can't think of a better gift to receive this holiday season! I am truly honored to have played even a small part in securing the safety and freedom that Frances and her friend have come to enjoy!

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

  • Hello Dr. Pia and Frances,
It is sooooo wonderful to hear the good news on Frances and her friend. Maggie can be so proud of her rehabilitation efforts for she saved Frances. What a blessing this holiday season for all our friends in our little kingdoms to be safe and happy.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa left you all lots and lots of treats and toys. I am one tired little Ruby Gem, so will catch up on my holiday with everyone tomorrow. Back to bed and "cc" time. Have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,

  • Hope all the Glue Squad members had a great Christmas and got everything you wanted.
    See you tomorrow

  • Hi Dr. Pia and Minnow, Sweet, wonderful Dr. Pia, you are one the most wonderful animal lovers I have ever seen and you are so kind to all animals that you find and care for by adopting or find a perfect home for all of them! My Mom is a lot like you and so are all of the Glue Squad parents! I wish all people were this kind and all animals would be extremely happy and have great lives like we do! Minnow, would you please hug your Mom because I love her, too! Thanks so much for all 4 of these great photos! Hope you had a nice Christmas and will have a great New Years Day, also! Ruby, I agree with you and you are very kind! Hope all of you buddies had a great time, also! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi Dr Pia & Glue Squad Buddies - Ms Frances, happy you are doing so well. You look like all the squirrel friends that come to visit in my backyard too. Although they usually run thru the fence when they know I'm watching ;) . Hope everyone had a nice Christmas, can't wait to hear everybody's fun stories. We may get a little snow today, have to wait & see. Think I will go take a nap.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow

  • Happy Boxing Day everyone!
Dr Pia, it's so great to see Ms Frances. Maggie must be so happy to see those two squirrels thrive in their environment.
We have a squirrel, Hector, who lives in our woods. Hector comes up on the patio and takes peanuts from Mom and Dads' hands all the time. He even comes up when are out. Of course we are on our leads. Guess Hector knows we can't chase him.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas...we did!
    Pugs and kisses,

  • Good morning Dr. Pia,
I am so glad for Ms. Frances! I have lots of squirrels with lovely homes way up high in the trees. They loved the bird seed Christmas wreath Mimi put out for the birds. The birds got to eat some, too.
We had a great Christmas yesterday. The children were all excited, Bekah was learning how to knit and Eli loved the books Santa brought him. I had a great day, too. Santa brought me some great chewie bones that fit my little mouth. I could share some with Minnow! I wore my "Santa's Helper" neckerchief & the folks had noisey popper things that they opened before they ate dinner. They all had paper crowns to wear, a little prize and a paper with riddles & jokes. I thought they'd never start eating dinner! There was a lot of laughing going on. What more could we ask for on Christmas day. Hope all my friends heard lots of laughing from their families, too.
    Your pal,

  • Hi Minnow and Dr. Pia!
It's great to find out that those that you rescued are doing well and are happy. Wonderful gift!
Making it short today, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to hearing about all the good times our buddies had on Christmas.

  • ..what a pretty squirrel you are..we have squirrels here at the farm/ranch..Douglas Red Bellies..they are cute noisy little guys and they are faster than the feral cats..they like to sit on the branches of the fir trees and chatter at the cats and dare them to catch them...saw the bobcat on my walk this a.m., off in the morning mist at the end of the field..I raced after him but he darted in the woods and I had to come back when Lucinda called me...I want a piece of that guy..but Lucinda says NO!...hope every one had a joyous Christmas and that peace comes to all in the New, Chewy and Black Mama and the tribe
