Snow On The Boxwood Allee

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies were driving around the farm the other day after some snowy weather.  We noticed that not everything was all tucked away for the winter.

Sharkey, do you see what I see? The boxwood allee is covered with snow with no burlap covers!

That's quite a bit of snow sitting on top of the hedge. The bamboo framing is all in place, but just not the burlap.

Sharkey, it's a good thing that it's powdery snow, or we'd have a real problem. The boxwood would be all misshapen if the snow was heavy!

Here's an example of a misshapen boxwood. You can see how the weight of the snow pulls apart the bush. It can even cause the branches to break!

This project is a race to the finish every year. We don't usually have so much snow this early.

Chhiring, please get these boxwood covered before the next snowfall. We don't like misshapen and broken hedges.

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey and Glue Squad peeps! It's Friday!!!!! Woooohooooo! And it's the Friday before Christmas!!!!!!
Well, girls it's a good thing you are there to "encourage" the guys to hurry up and cover the boxwoods! We hope that one boxwood recovers.
Welll all our snow is gone. The temps are suppose to be in the 50's this weekend with rain, rain and more rain. Why can't we have snow, snow and more snow!!!! It's winter. It's Christmas. The song is dreaming of a White Christmas...not Wet Christmas!!!!
Oh well.....at least Mom has baking cookies on her list for this weekend. Max is hoping she drops some dough on the floor. Max is a floor dweller. I, Brutus, will wait until Mom needs a tester once the cookies are baked. (I get bigger bites, but don't tell Maxie!)
Hope everyone has their presents bought and wrapped.
There's lots of gifts under our tree....but NOTHING with our names on them. WHAT??????? Hey Santa, we've been good!
Have a great weekend everyone. Stay warm, stay dry.
    Peace out...
    Brutus and Max

  • Good morning everyone,
I can't believe that the burlap project is not complete yet. But, those guys have an awful lot of work to do at the farm. I think they will be alright though. They are very hard working and they all work well together. Using a team effort, the boxwood's will be cleared and covered in no time.
Well gang, you know what day this is. Last day of the blog for the week. And next week the guy with the red suit comes to visit us. Oh boy. Can't wait. I have been a big help around here this year so I should be set. Biscuits, toys, more biscuits. Hehehehehe b
Everyone have a grand weekend. Oh, Kirby, anytime you want to run around in the snow, come on up.
    Love to all,
    Maddox.

  • Darn early snowfall! The recent snowfall in NH was light and fluffy, thankfully.

Maybe that will be it for the season (hint hint Mother Nature) :)

Happy Friday to all the gluey's...

Better button up and remain on Santa's good list...he'll be lurking soon!

  • Good Morning F & S

I bet Mama Martha was not a happy camper that her boxwoods didn't get covered. The good thing is that the temps in the North East are really going to warm up in the next few days. I might have to bring out a lounge chair for the deck and get some rays :)

Mom's been a shopping fool lately but still no signs of cookies. I think that is on the schedule for tomorrow. I plan on being the taste tester ;)

The grandkids are stopping by for a visit later today and the little boy isn't too fond of dogs so that means I get to spend time in my crate. He better get over it already because this is my house - he wants to visit he better get use to me ;) I wish it was my buddy Nicole coming over she loves me and we share snacks. Oh well it is what it is I'll get through it - DID YOU HEAR THAT SANTA I'M BEING NICE!!!!

Well have a great weekend everyone!!

    Zoe

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! You sure did get a lot of snow there at Martha's beautiful Bedford farm and not having covers over the boxwoods could be dangerous! You would never want to have broken branches on those beautiful boxwoods all around the farm! Chhiring and his buddies sure were working hard to try to cover all of the boxwoods along that allee and then more snow came! Sure hope all is covered now that your weather is warmer today! We are getting snow here this morning and tomorrow is the 1st day of winter! It's in the 30s right now and Mom has to make a great fire in her awesome wood stove ASAP! I have to go help her so I will check back later to read all of our great buddies comments! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well another small change of my dog food again. Still trying to find out why I chew on my feet and tail. The only thing I don’t like about this change is the gas. I’m sort of like Zoe; I get asked to leave the room often now. That’s OK by me; found the perfect place to nap. It’s by the cold air return for the furnace. Hehehehe I’m on the lookout for the “fat man” dressed in red. I expect a whole box of snacks all for myself. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good morning ladies,
Snap to it! Get the bushes covered! Is that how you bark out orders or do you talk nicely to the guys? I bet you gals are nice managers. I sure like the animation. It's really fun to watch.
It's raining here today, the snow is melting & it is really foggy out in the country. We're losing our Christmas snow really fast.
Hey Kirby, I chew on my front legs. Sometimes when we're playing I stop & chew on a leg then I get up and play some more. Don't know why. There are no fleas. Mimi thinks I have arthuristis maybe. Do you chew your fur off? I don't chew that much. Talking about gas - my folks wish I'd leave the room sometimes. They say peeeuie Rebel!
    I just laugh....
    Have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello Everyone - Hurry, hurry, hurry, more snow on the way, its a race to get the boxwood covered! This is Riley boy again, and I have been told by my sisters Martha and Miz Lu that a public apology is in order. Yesterday I might have said that they were just girls and I didn't much listen to them anyways. Boy was I wrong, wrong and double wrong. I didn't mean to hurt their feelings, they are older and wiser than me, and they are my buddies. I walk every night with Martha and we make a fine team, pulling Mom through the snow. I am sorry that I spoke out of turn and thoughtlessly. Santa, please don't hold it against me, I'm young, a boy and a little reckless on the side. So there guys, a public apology and we can all be friends again, yes?
Anyways, not much else happening, lots of freezing rain and milder temps up here, very slippery driving and walking. Hope Santa's reindeer have anti-slip coatings on their hooves! Love and Beardie bounces from Riley boy, Miz Lu and Martha too!

  • Hello Girls & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
TGIF! OMG, it has been a circus around here. Mom had the dreaded butt light thing yesterday and is fine. Yahoo!! Now on to these Boxwoods. I am surprised that Mama Martha didn't have this in order, but I bet she wanted it pretty for the party last week and there probably was lots to do to get that ready. Looking good now for things. Now you guys back East are getting our warm summer 70's weather this weekend. I am getting a cold front, and little flakes a falling. Maybe a White Christmas. I am being really good too, like all my buddies are also. Baking in the works for the weekend. Then fun and more fun next week. Lots of party central. Yahoo for me. Oh, Riley, excellent job on the landscaping. You forgot to tell the folks that is was Santa's orders for us to do this job, for more evergreens for the future Christmas trees. I have been working, but not quite so serious as you. Good job, I know Santa is watching and appreciating your excellent work. Sometimes Moms and Dads just don't have the Santa in, like we do. Have a GEM of a weekend all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi Y'all,
Girls, grab that corner of the burlap and help the crew cover those boxwoods! I'm sure that you've watched them enough to know how. Bet that would put them in gear! HAHAHAHA Maybe you should just leave it to them to get it done.
Kirby and Rebel, the gas maybe from poultry. Mis won't let me eat any chicken or turkey because the fats give me horrendous gas. George seems to have this issue too so we only get beef, lamb and occasionally some seafood. Mis can't stand the seafood breath! Our dry is Blue Buffalo Basics in salmon. Keeps our coats shiny. Also, I have very bad dry skin in the winter, so Mis gets me the salmon oil supplement and squirts it on my food. It really helps. But anytime we start chewing on our feet she knows we have partaken of something with corn, wheat soy, eggs, or dairy. She just doesn't know which one sets us off. Corn and wheat are highly suspected. Izzy seems to be set of by grass. She loves to roll in the spring and ends up with an itchy rash on her tummy and she begins to bite her feet and tail too. Mis, herself is allergic to soy and that makes her itch something awful! She just doesn't bite her feet like we do!? HAHAHAHA
Riley, careful now! You are surrounded by women. Best to learn now that you are the underdog, no pun intended! Wise up my friend and all will be well.
Sounds like everyone is getting some rain this weekend. Ruby, our weatherman had to point out your dramatic temperature drop day before yesterday. Our temperatures are going up everyday until Sunday, when we may break another record, 77. Then the Canadians are sending us some cooler air for Tuesday and Christmas. Thanks guys! But first, possible stormy weather Sunday night. Not so great!
Chewy, I'm so happy that you're doing so well in your new home. Watch out for those bobcats please! But that tailless raccoon sounds interesting. We had a tailless squirrel here a couple of years ago. Looked like a baby bunny with short ears.
Okay, it's the final weekend before Christmas! Brutus and Zoe, Mis is going to try to make cookies too. Hoping for some failures myself. And Zoe, I love your ears. They're just like mine!
Alright, everyone have a Doggy Good Weekend and try to be good! This is a challenge for George, but I'm trying to teach him!

  • Hello Franny,Sharkey and GS buddies,
Well I am awake! Up from a long Winter nap just in time for the last minute holiday preparations! Mom is finally in the Christmas mood, going shopping and humming the Wahoo Wahoo grinch song... Maybe we will have presents and roast beast??? I have a new box of biscuits waiting for my holiday area under the tree and my beloved PSmart doggy bed. Today is mani and pedi day for me and maybe a holiday bath???
Riley, no worries, I am sure you were just kidding the girls. Zoe, we love you and all your GS buddies will put a good word in for you with santa.
Kirby, I hope you cute chow chow eyes feel much better! Missy Chow, hugs to you up in red Sox nation.
