Fascinated By The Stable Kitchen

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies were visiting our friends, the Friesians and the miniature donkeys in the stable the other day and the door to the stable kitchen was ajar.  We don't often get to see this kitchen because the door is usually shut tight to keep out the stable dust.  As you will see from these photos, this kitchen is simply amazing!

Hey, Franny! Why don't you join me in the stable kitchen where I'm looking at Martha's collection of antique copper molds?

Antique molds were also made from tin, ceramic, and even wood, but copper is the favorite for collecting, and for good reason. They're really beautiful, don't you think?

Copper has long been used for pots and pans because it's an excellent conductor and retainer of heat. But, because it's quite costly, some pots are made with only copper bottoms, making them more affordable.

Martha uses her fish-shaped molds for her famous salmon mousse! BTW - The recipe is in her very first book, Entertaining.

Francesca, what do you suppose this beautiful mold is used for? Owl mousse? I hope not!

Wow, Sharkey, I've never really spent any time looking at all of this copper. It's great! Take a look at this large copper storage bin next to the Aga stove!

Francesca, to be precise, this is an Aga four-oven stove. Each oven is heated to a different temperature. Martha uses this kitchen when she has parties in the stable, and this Aga is very versatile.

Aga cookers have been around since the beginning of the 20th century. This model has two hot plates for stove top cooking.

When this stove is fired up, the covers feel warm to the touch. But, the surfaces beneath them are sizzling hot!

And this, Sharkey, is the warming plate, where pots of food are placed to stay warm until ready to serve. I wonder when the next stable party will be? The last one was sure fun!

  • Good morning gang,
I had to laugh at your post Chewy. I wonder if Cora Belle had something to do with the tail missing on that raccoon. Hehehehehe.
Franny and Sharkey, those copper molds are something else. Very nice. I wonder too what the owl mold is used for. Next time you go in the stable kitchen take more pictures so we can see the whole kitchen.
Well, Zoe, get on here and tell us of your adventures while your mom was gone. And tell us what day this is.
    Love to all,
    Maddox
PS. I am glad James is better.

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
That copper sure looks sparkling. We just have a little copper and it doesn't get polished so deluxe as your copper. We have a huge wood bucket and 6 copper mugs. The folks drink this thing called a Moscow Mule. I don't understand that one bit.

It is sure good to have you back Chewy and Black Mama and the tribe. That bobcat scared me to death, just hearing about it. But then a snake scared me as you recall this summer.I am glad it is up the tree. And I am sure from knowing Cora Belle just for a short time even, the the raccoon without a tail is due to her. I am glad everything is going well with James, and now you can have a great Christmas.

Zoe, girlfriend, isn't it bad enough we had to cover for you while Mom was gone and this special day of the week. Get up and go girlfriend. One week from today we will be at the early morn opening all the things that Santa left. I can hardly wait. Everyone, be on your honor. Mom said she is reading The Night Before Christmas to me. Well, no grandkids, that's what you do I guess. She and Dad really love me. I think I already have the best Christmas gift, but still more biscuits is a good thing. Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Good morning Ladies, and Glue Squad friends!
Wonder who keeps all that copper looking so shiny...hmmmmm.
Chewy, great to hear from you....we've missed you. Wonder were the raccoon left his tail....another hmmmm.
Brutus and I are trying our best to be good...sometimes it's not easy.
Must be off....there's sunshine this morning so we are going out to enjoy that...but it's still cold. Time for that sweater for Maxie!
    Pugs and kisses

  • Hey hey hey - go ahead tell me what day it is????

    It's HUMP DAY :)

Good Morning F & S and all my Glue Squad Buddies

This time next week I'll be tearing open my presents I can't wait!!! Well I hope I'm getting presents, after I came home from the groomer yesterday I tore up dad's magazine before he had a chance to read it. Don't ask me why I did it I just had the urge, I hope Santa wasn't watching and thank God mom wasn't home. She was already in a bad mood because Sophie got in the PetSmart bag and ate half of our stocking stuffers - boy was she pissed!!!!

Mom left the house at 6 this morning she is still trying to get caught up from being away. Maybe she should move her vacation till after Christmas so she isn't a spazz queen when she gets back. Don't tell her I said that ;)

    Zoe

  • Hello Everyone: F&S - that kitchen looks amazing, I'm sure we could find lots of places to curl up and be comfortable in there. Lots of work keeping these beautiful copper moulds so bright and shiny!
This morning (very early) we were sitting at the front window just inspecting the street to make sure all was well when OMG a large deer just walked right up to the other side of the window and stared inside at our Xmas tree! Only our sister Sam saw it and in a flash the deer was gone, but what a surprise! We live in an area now which is surrounded on all sides by a large conservation area - lots of woodlands and streams so lots of wildlife. The deer get hungry so they come into the neighborhood and start eating the evergreens (they like yew especially) and stripping the trees of bark! In the summer everyone on the street has these motion activated water sprinklers to move them along. They are just starting to venture out from the woods now (cause we've had a lot of snow lately) so we'll have to keep an eye out and get out there and protect the property!
That's all the news that's fit to print this morning, everyone have a great day and be good cause Santa's watching! Love and Beardie bounces, Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Good morning ladies,
Very cool kitchen! We have copper molds on the wall, too. Mimi also makes a salmon mousse & uses the fish. I'm with you ladies, owl mousse sounds yucky. Sure is good to hear from Chewy & Black Mama. Sure am glad your Dad is feeling better.
A raccoon without a tail, wow, ummm, weird. Poor thing.
The birds found our feeder and we put out a bird seed wreath, too. I like to watch the birds, they relax me right into a nap most of the time.
Speaking of naps, I feel one coming on.
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • :-) cool copper collection...and a kitchen in the barn, well now I've heard everything! But then MS is so logical. ;-)
You girls have a wonderful place to live and wonderful care...you've been doggy blessed!
Chewy and Black Mama I'm glad James is OK.

All our friends here, be safe and happy!

  • Francesca Baby, I sure am enjoying your holiday explorations. And I'm glad to see what the Glue Squad is up to. We've been very busy around here, but somehow not busy enough to say we are ready for Christmas. Oh well, the important thing is that we are all together. Mom had to laugh at the copper molds-- not that they are funny, they are beautiful-- but at a memory she has as a little girl of her brother taking their Mom's copper molds (and I guess she had a bunch of antique ones from HER mother) and trying to melt them down to make soldiers from one of those tin soldier molds... I guess our Uncle David We Never Knew didn't sit down for a few days. All I know is, we don't have any copper molds at our house, OR copper soldiers.
    A bientot!

  • I want to thank everyone who has been sending me e-cards. I am going to do a mass reply on Friday so I make sure I catch everyone!

Kirby Bear sweetie I hope your eye is feeling better. Remember everyone, Santa Paws is still making a list of good girls and boys so try to behave (that means you Zoe!)

Everyone have a lovely day!

  • Ooh, I do love copper molds! What a nice collection Martha has built up over time. I wonder if the owl one is rare? I've seen fish before, but never an owl!

I do collect quite a bit of vintage stuff, but don't believe I have any kitchen copper molds in my collection.

Maybe a Christmas stable party is in the works? :)

    Happy Wednesday...
    gail

  • Love that copper....but....could we please pretty please with sugar cubes on top, see MORE of the miniature donkeys? Just remember the roles donkeys of all sizes have played in human life over the millenia - don't they deserve more press? C'mon, Frenchies! Promote your long-eared buddies with some photos and stories!
