Sharing Donkey Sayings

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies came across some awesome donkey sayings and, of course, we just had to share them with our donk friends, Clive, Rufus, and Billie.  We thought they were pretty funny, but we might have touched a nerve or two.

Hey Clive, Rufus, and Billie - Francesca and I have been doing some reading and came across some quotes you may like to hear concerning asses - oops, I mean donkeys!

2 Hey Clive, Rufus, and Billie - Francesca and I have been doing some reading and came across some quotes you may like to hear concerning asses - oops, I mean donkeys!

Mark Twain, the famous American author and humorist wrote,

3 Mark Twain, the famous American author and humorist wrote, "Concerning the difference between man and the jackass: some observers hold that there isn't any. But this wrongs the jackass." Did I get your attention?

According to a Turkish proverb -

4 According to a Turkish proverb - "An ass is beautiful in the eyes of an ass." Hey, don't take it the wrong way, we think you're beautiful!

There's a Maltese proverb that states -

5 There's a Maltese proverb that states - "Don't call your brother an ass, for you are next of kin." Don't like that one either?

According to a German proverb -

6 According to a German proverb - "A living donkey is better than a dead doctor." Well, that makes sense.

An Irish proverb states that -

7 An Irish proverb states that - "A wink is as good as a nod to a blind donkey." Hey, easy! I didn't write it, Rufus!

Here's a good Yiddish proverb for you -

8 Here's a good Yiddish proverb for you - "If one man calls you a donkey, ignore him. If two men call you a donkey, think about it. If three men call you a donkey, buy a saddle." That one really made me laugh!

There's another Irish proverb that says,

9 There's another Irish proverb that says, "It's only the Lord who can make a racehorse out of a jackass." You wouldn't want to be a racehorse, would you?

Rufus, there's an Indian proverb you might like -

10 Rufus, there's an Indian proverb you might like - "It is a good omen to hear a bell ring, an ass bray, or a kite cry, when starting out to see a married woman whose husband is alive." See? You're a lucky charm!

Here's another Irish proverb you might get a kick out of -

11 Here's another Irish proverb you might get a kick out of - "Tis better to be an ass's head than a horse's bottom." Ha-ha-ha!!!

And then there's the Turkish proverb that says,

12 And then there's the Turkish proverb that says, "The ass is jealous of the horse until he learns better." Ha! Another good one!

Then there's a Jamaican proverb that says,

13 Then there's a Jamaican proverb that says, "When you go to the donkey's house, don't talk about ears." Why not talk about ears, Clive?

But the best proverb of all is Pakistani -

14 But the best proverb of all is Pakistani - "To carry a load without resting, to be not bothered by heat or cold, and to always be content: These things we can learn from a donkey." Isn't that a nice one?

  • Good Monday Morning Francesca, Sharkey and the Donks!
We just love seeing those Donks. We thought your quotes were funny, but we don't think the donks thought much of them. Hmmmm.
Well, Glue Squad how was your weekend. Not much happened around here, Mom and Dad both worked so we pretty much laid around the house.
We are having a cold snap (more like a freezer snap if you ask me [Max])and it doesn't look much better
the rest of the week. Oh well, it is close to winter.
Ok peeps listen up. We have been told by Ruby to remind everyone that Sunday, Dec 1st is the premier of the movie filmed in Lebanon, OH (our hometown). The name is "The Christmas Spirit" starring Nicolette Sheridan. So watch it, or set your DVR's.
Oh, right, it's on the Hallmark Channel at 8pm-EST.
And the Jam Lady and her shop are real. You'll understand when you watch the movie.
That's it, we are getting back under the blanket! Brrrr....
    Pugs and kisses
    Brutus and Max--I'm a pugsicle!

  • Good morning,
I don't know how much the donks liked those quotes but they have to know how darn cute they are, asses or not. Hehehehehehe
Brutus and Max, I will check out the movie. There have been Christmas movies on several channels the whole month of November. Karen likes watching them. I have to admit, I do too.
Well, it is 11degrees here this morning. Kampbell is laying out in the excercise yard and doesn't want to come in. Goofy dog. I am going to join her.
    Later Glue Squad,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

All I can say is it's a good thing there was a fence between you and the donk's. I thought they were funny but I don't think us Frenchie's should be making remarks about ears, just saying.....

I'm making this short and sweet because my butt is going back on the heat vent it's FREEZING here today, been like this all weekend :(

Busy weekend at our house getting ready for Turkey Day. Mom has the dishes washed and linens all pressed. All the food is here except for the turkeys they arrive on Tuesday. Then I helped wrap Christmas presents but I was very disappointed that none of the tags said Zoe :( I better start behaving because the fat boy in red arrives a month from today.

Hey Glue Squad you know our little friend Maddy who has cancer well she isn't doing very well. She is now home with hospice care. We need to say extra prayers for her and her family. Franny and Sharkey did you ever get those pictures out to her? I know that would have put a smile on her face she knows all about the Glue Squad. Mom sent an email to the Daily Wag???

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Not only do you two sweet girls look gorgeous, but so do your donkeys Clive, Rufus, and Billie! It's so much fun to see them again and you two sure had fun telling them so many comments from reading you girls had been enjoying about donkeys! They didn't look real happy, but you two girls did! Wish you could hug them and GK for me sometime! Hope you have another great day and stay warm! We have had some very cold days lately and Mom and I have worked a lot getting logs and boards ready to burn in Mom's great fire place and she gets it up to the 70s everyday! Nice to hear from Brutus and Max, Maddox, and Zoe so far this early morning and will check back later to hear from more of you buddies! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Zoe,
That was funny about the ears. I came back on to tell you that Karen sent Maddy pictures of the Frenchies and GK. Karen started sending her a couple pictures of different things everyday so she has a few minutes of laughter in her life. Maddy and her mom also are very special people. I wish I could have met them in person but we email back and forth and she giggles at the pictures Karen sends

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
It is a new week, and I am glad. Last one was kinda hard, with the Houdini Ruby incident and other stuff. Now on to the donks. They are just as cute as can be, and you girls better watch it, Santa is really keeping a close watch on us now, I hear. So watch the comments. Try and be nice. Speaking of nice, I am told no not nice talk about football. So congrats, Missy and all you Patriot fans. Our Peyton and the boys came close, but no cigar. The Brady Bunch won--hehehehehe--just had to say it. Now, the Broncos are putting their big boy cowboy boots on and Kansas City, Kansas City, here we come. I just love the party to be honest.

Now about my special friend Maddy. I love her clear up to God, and am praying for her and her family, and I thank all my buddies for continuing to make her smile. You are the best!!!

We have 2 trees up and I am smelling good stuff for Turkey Day. Yummo!!!! Have a GEM of a Monday all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well it’s Monday and the start of a new week. I liked the one about buying a saddle. I’ll have to check out my neighbor and see if he has bought his saddle yet. As many people in the neighborhood who have called him a jackass; he’s due one any day now. It wasn’t a good weekend here for me. It rained a little and then turned cold. Yep, believe it or not it did. Now it wasn’t cold for me, but dropping into the lower 30’s is plenty cold for many others. Wish I was with Maddox in that 11 degree weather. We all could lay in the play yard all day long. Wouldn’t that be fun? Then, maybe, it would snow and make the day complete.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • A frozen 'Hi Y'all' from NC!
Franny, Sharkey, if you're not careful those donks will be finding quotes to throw back at you! I personally found them fun but I don't think they did.
All of us here are praying for Maddy and her family. I, Mis didn't get any pic off to her but I will make a special effort to get that done! Remember, you're not alone! So many are standing right beside you in spirit. I hope you can feel their energy!
Hold on to your fur this week. It's going to be a wild weather ride here and for most of the East. For us, the temps have fallen to 20 last night and will fall slightly tonight before rising again after midnight, then dropping again and rising.........Uggggggg I'm getting motion sick just talking about it. Stay warm everyone!
    Dixie Boy

  • Good morning ladies & donkeys!
Great research! Donkeys have been such great pals to humans for so long that there would have to be a lot of good sayings and you found them!
Mimi & I love the donkeys.
I'm a frozen little tamale today. Yesterday I found a great sunny spot to sleep on. Today it's cloudy, so off to my bed in Mimi & Papa's room. It's warm upstairs.
Prayers for Maddy from our house.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello Franny, Sharkey, GS crew and the pretty donks,
The donkeys look so happy, maybe they get special thanksgiving day treats?? Maybe Francesca and Sharkey can bring them special treats after all these donkey comments. They certainly deserve some carrots or veggies.
Dixie Boy, our forecast here changed to temps around 50 on Wednesday so maybe the East weather will improve!!!! My Mom wants to be HOME for turkey day, not shoveling out at work..
Zoe, are you ready for some turkey??? Abby has a new kitchen bed by the heater and carving table so she is really excited. We are having 11 people over so it will be very busy!! House preparations are in full gear.Look out for the fat red suited man Zoe, he's making up lists.
Ruby, hope you are having fun decorating your special dog tree. Kitty, are you indoors keeping warm?? Dudley, that heat vent sounds nice. Our paws and prayers go out to sweet Maddy.
purrrs and t.p. adventures or crafts to all,
James Dean the persian cat boy

  • Oh ladies especially you Sharkey need to stay on this side of the fence lest the donks show you what THEY think of your humor.

Saying blessings for Maddy that her pain eases away. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

  • Nothing like a little donk humor to begin the week! :)

I actually chuckled at a few of those dillies!

Aw, the donks are A-Okay in my book! A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Therefore, the donks are sweet no matter what! :)

I say leave 'ass' for those who truly are, like some of the fellas I've dated before! :)

    Happy Monday to all!
    gail

  • :-) Love the various proverbs mentioned..since I'm an avid Bible reader and this came to mind for my Donk buddies Clive, Rufus, and Billie..... in two versions Proverbs 26:3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools! - or - Guide a horse with a whip, a donkey with a bridle, and a fool with a rod to his back!

Looks like a fun time playing and teasing the Donks! Always fun to see...
This is a day late post, but I came...read and wrote.
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • It's lovely that the peacefulness of Martha's farm extends to the relationship between these charming donkeys and even more charming Frenchies (I'm lucky enough to work in an office where the owner's French Bulldog is the office mascot so we have Frenchie wonderfulness and comical-ness every day!). Usually, donks aren't particularly thrilled at having anything canine nearby but these donks sure are accepting of their little buddies. By the way there are now knitted ear covers made especially for mini-, full-size and mammoth donkeys who enjoy brisk winters! Great home knitting project too!
