As a huge advocate for senior animals, I am honored to report that I have recently joined the advisory board of The Grey Muzzle Organization- a very special animal welfare organization that specifically takes a stand for our senior furry comrades and the humans who love them!

The Grey Muzzle Organization and Doug Ratner of The Watchmen are joining forces to make this senior dog rock music video! And all of you senior pooches are invited to be part of it!

As the proud mama to a posse of senior companions, I know I can count on you faithful Daily Wag and Glue Squad folks to join me in promoting awareness and more adoptions of older companion animals. To learn of many more ways you can help senior animals in need, be sure to check out The Grey Muzzle Organization and get involved!

To be included in the video, email a picture of your senior dog, the dog’s name and the name of the shelter or rescue your dog was adopted from to Doug@DougRatner.com by October 26th. By submitting your photo, you give permission for the photo to be used in the music video and promotional materials.

Let's all get on board!

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

In memory of sweet Maggie and her loving adoptive parents, Patty and Chuck.

  • Dr Pia, Thank you for this very informative post.
Brutus and I were blessed with our loving forever home and we hope everyone, especially older pets, find great homes as well.
Now....HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRBY!!!! Someone told us you are 12 years old!!!!! Here is hoping you have a great day with lots and lots of treats and hugs and kisses!
Not much happening at our house this week. Mom and Dad are both working so our patio time is pretty much mornings. At least it's cool!
I'm going back to bed now.
    Pugs and kisses to everyone!
    Max (Brutie is snoozing)

  • Good morning Glue Squad,
As you know, I take a break on Thursdays and don't usually post anything unless there is something big going on. Well, there is a real big thing going on today. Our good buddy from the South is having a special day today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR VERY GOOD FRIEND
    KIRBY.
    Waa Hoo.
    12 years old today.
To celebrate your birthday, I am going to stomp on one of those plastic cones that Karen found in a box somewhere cause I wish you will never have to wear one again. I hope the only cone you will come in contact with is the kind that has ice cream in it and it tastes real good.
Enjoy your special day Kirby. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy.
    Love ya,
    Maddox and Karen too

  • Hi Dr. Pia and Minnow, My Mom and I can't thank you enough for sharing such a wonderful blog about so many wonderful, elderly animals who absolutely need marvelous humans to care for them! It's hard to imagine that so many don't have families and being part of families is very important! I was very lucky to get my Mom when I was very young and don't ever want to leave her because she adores me! These photos are so precious and I can't wait to see that video on Nov.1st! I'm sending a big hug to Minnow and Dr. Pia!! I hope all of our Glue Squaders are doing well! Happy Birthday to handsome Kirby and sure hope you have a wonderful day! You are 3 years older than me and I'm sending you a big hug, also! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Dr. Pia & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
First and foremost, I must do my singing....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR BUDDY KIRBY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU and many more........ Could ya hear me Kirby, could ya, could ya? I missed the age somehow, and can't believe you are 12. You are a mere spring chicken buddy. Hope you have a cone free day and lots of treats and walks and a biggggggg party.

Now to the blog. I love that all the senior buddies don't get forgotten. Great blog and thank you. Love all the rock stars.

Have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • I love this post. Thanks so much for the shout out to senior dogs. I have one - 14 years young! - and it breaks my heart that dogs like mine have a harder time finding their furever homes. Much love to shelter animals and seniors as well!

  • Hello Dr. Pia and all the GS buddies:
Thank you so much for showcasing an opportunity for the senior buddies - we don't have anyone in our pack that is a senior yet, Martha is 6 and she is the oldest, but Mom says we have had seniors in our family in the past. Good on them!
Happy Birthday Kirby, we wish you many treats, lots of attention and the best day ever. Hopefully you will get to do whatever makes you happiest today!
Well, not much going on, we are all taking some downtime today, waiting for the weekend when there is lots of activity happening. Riley loves Saturday mornings as he goes to school. Everyone have a great day, tomorrow is Friday! Love and Beardie bounces, Martha, Miz Lu and Riley boy.

  • Hi Y'all,
That's a great organization to be a part of Dr. Pia. Older companions need to know they are loved and will be cared for just like you humans do. But, I also know that many humans see us as disposable and get rid of us just as we need them the most and that is inexcusable! Spade is the oldest cat here and he remembers many of the loved pets that were here before us. Wish I could have met them. I'm certain me and Ginger the Border Collie would have been fast friends. Mis said that she had one cat that lived to be 18 and his brother was 17. She talks about how much life they had in them even as they got old. They played like kittens, just not as often.
Okay, I heard one of my Southern Brothers is having a birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRBY!!! Hope you have a great time today and MC D's sounds like fun.
Got to Go, UPS Truck just came in!!! Let's see how fast he can move!

  • Good Morning Dr. Pia

First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRBY!!!!! I hope you have a great day and in honor of your birthday I may make a TP decoration ;)

Dr. Pia I can send a picture of my old brother T-Bone, mom and dad saved him. In fact we were all saved! Sophie was going to have a life of just having puppies and dad saved her from a whacko breeder at age 1. I was a runt Frenchie so who the heck knows what would have come of me :( It's a shame all breeders can't be like Karen - Maddox has a great mama :)

  • :-) Oh boy did I get lost for an hour going through all the "Grey Muzzle Org" senior sites...how wonderful to know that the senior pets aren't just thrown out and have a chance to live the rest of their lives out with personal love. Super photos shown here!! I shared the photo/video submission on my Facebook ...

Kitty had consumed a huge rodent or squirrel and chucked it up on her towel on the computer desk... YUCK! And I had to clean that ugly mess up :-( it's not like she doesn't get fed good food!

KIRBY have a Woofnerful Happy Birthday and happiness in your furever loving home! <3

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

Maddox, sorry to report Chloe and mom didn't get good news at the Vet. I'm writing this morning cause mom and Chloe have been snuggling in the recliner since they got home fom the Vet yesterday. Mayer and I keep doing funny little things to make them smile. Mom is off to the doctor this morning, so I will be in charge around the homestead, so watch yourself Mr. Mayer!

  • HI Dr. Pia and Glue Squad Buddies - Mom just booted the computer for me, a little late, thanks Mom but couldn't let the day pass without wishing a Happy, Happy Birthday Kirby Bear! Hope you are having wonderful day and that you enjoy your ice cream cone as well. Mom & Dad will be off to a wedding rehearsal shortly so better run and check out what's cooking for dinner too. • Hello all,
Chloe the Queen Cheweenie I am very worried about your vet visit. Sophie said it wasn't good news, and you and Mom need to remember, we are the one and only Glue Squad (thanks to Maddox for the name, over and over, good buddy) that supports each other through thick and thin. We love you clear up to God. Let us know what we can do.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello Zoe,
Thank you so much for saying Karen is a good breeder because it is true. She loves dogs so much and she got involved in chows to try and change the attitude people have about the breed. I for one am glad she is involved in chows. But she tries to help all kinds of dogs. And, we have a 17 year old Keeshound here that needed a home. She took the dog in even though one of her chows was living with someone else after the fire. It was the people she got her first chow from. They still have him. Even though she loves Sprocket and would love for him to come back home to live with us again, she can't do that to the people. They love him too. She said they did such a kindness by taking him after the fire that she doesn't want to break their hearts. And this Keeshound needed her more than Sprocket. But, Sprocket is only 15 minutes away so we do get to see him and Jonesy the Keeshound has a stable environment here with her so it worked out for everyone. He has been with us for about 4 years now and he is still going strong, the old coot. Hehehehehehehe
