Watching Wilmer Prune

Posted by F&S

We noticed that Wilmer was pruning on the terrace recently and we decided to keep him company.  It's sort of hypnotizing to watch someone prune and to hear the clip-clip of the pruners.

Sharkey, as usual, Wilmer is hard at work. Let's find out what he's up to.

Hi there, Wilmer. You appear to be pruning the hedges of the terrace garden.

I remember that this little hedge is made up of yellow barberry, boxwood, and teucrium.

And I see that you're using very sharp Japanese pruners for this job. They're specially sized for pruning and trimming hedges such as box and privet.

The blades are set at a slight angle to the solid Japanese white oak handles, keeping hands clear of the hedge when cutting straight and flat.

Hi Vivaldi! Are you curious about Wilmer's pruning too?

Do you know what I think, Wilmer? I think that the boxwood has gotten too big for this teucrium. From the looks of things, these poor plants are being squeezed out.

Wilmer, I'll be happy to eyeball your progress. I must commend you on your straight lines.

I don't see even one missed sprig. Those Japanese pruners really cut excellently!

Sharkey, let's stay back while Wilmer blows off the terrace. That blower is mighty powerful.

  • Good morning everyone,
I woke up and thought it was morning cause it was light out. I headed to the deck and then I noticed someone left the porch light on and it is actually the middle of the night. Dah!!! Well, one thing, it is really nice and cool out in the middle of the night. I might try it again tomorrow.
That Wilmer sure does work hard around the farm. Martha has one heck of a good crew to take care of the Lawn, the trees, the plants, the whole property. They all do such a good job and the farm looks awesome every season of the year.
Well, I guess I will go back to bed and check in with everyone in the morning.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hey,
Wake up! We have birthdays this week. We have people that have health issues. We have lots of things going on this week. We can't deal with these issues if we are laying in bed. Hehehehehehehe

  • Good Morning F & S

I'm up Maddox!!! I've been trying to get mom out of bed but she felt lazy this morning.

F & S can you send the crew to our house it's that time of year and our yard needs some pruning. Mom was outback last night doing some work after dinner. We're having a BBQ on Satuday so she wants the yard to look perfect. She made a "Honey Do List" for dad so he'll be busy this morning.

Tomorrow is Sophie's birthday she'll be 11. I don't know what to buy her she doesn't chew on bones or play with balls. She does love to steal the trash out of the trash cans so maybe I'll fill one with tissues and she can chew them to shreds :)

The special day is Saturday that is when I'll be 8. Maybe that is the reason for the BBQ a big birthday celebration for ME!!! I heard mom talking about baking a dog biscut cake for me and Sophie - YUM!!!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Good morning from a soggy Kirby. Boy did we have a real storm yesterday. It rained another three inches in less than an hour. There is water standing in every low spot around. It’s so wet I don’t want to go out side, but I had to go bad. Now my feet are wet and I don’t like that one bit. Oh well, that’s life I guess. My Mommy uses one of those battery powered trimmers out front on the bushes. She gets about half of them done and has to recharge the batteries; hers and the trimmer. Hehehehe She isn’t here at this moment so I can say that without fear of any reprisals. I forgot about Daddy; he’ll tell for sure. I’ll be sunk when she gets back. Until then, nap time for Kirby.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad - Finally, Mom turned on the computer for me. I don't know about that girl, doesn't she know I have to blog to my friends, geez! Well, you girls have been busy this week; Monday, the history of the sand dollars, so pretty..and in perfect shape. Hope you didn't leave GK sitting there all by himself all day. Securing the apples trees yesterday, that was a big job and pretty soon, the apples will be prepared for pies, applesauce, cider. And today, pruning the hedges, I think both of you should rest for the balance of the day. Maddox, very interesting take on the tube socks, hehe. Securing Karen like the apples trees, I don't thing so; how could she finish the kennels? Is she going to take pictures to show us?? I think I have the hunting gene too; when we go for walks, I let my nose do the hunting and I follow..then Dad usually has to pull me away. Ruby, maybe I missed it; but did Dad catch any fish for you this time? You had an interesting day yesterday, K-9 patrol, did they catch the bad guy? Dixie Boy, sounds like you are doing okay with George, remember he is so excited to be in a new home. Brutus & Max, hope Mom is doing okay. Black Mama, Ivan & Ivanka, hope James is on the mend & Lucinda is well. Abby & James Dean, another preseason game tomorrow night, so far, so good 2-0.. Kitty, you looked so comfy sitting in your new chair. Zoe, big birthday celebrations at your house this weekend with lots of treats, yes??? Hi Rebel, Dudley Do Right, Kirby Bear, Martha, Lucy & Riley, Baby Favor. Better head to the patio before the humidity comes back today.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • :-) F&S are you the formen-dogs at MS houses? You're always on the ball checking out the workers... No pressure there, just photos to prove they are doing a great job! Tell Wilmer to ask mommie Martha to buy him electric sheers, they are easier on your hands and back he - he ;-) :-)
Hope I don't forget to wish Sophie a Happy Birthday. Sooo, if Kitty and I forget, we hope your day is filled with Love and pats on the head.
Got in here at DW early because Ms Kitty ordered me out of bed...say, the picture I sent of the Cicada (Kitty's gift) is still here, it's displayed in a plant...actually it's to scare my sister when she comes for a visit. :-)
Well, off for my two cups of Java so I can think a bit clearer...

Stay well my DWaggers-Glue Squad Friends
    Hugs and prurrrs
    delia & Kitty =^, ,^=

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, How fun that you two beautiful girls, Vivaldi, and handsome GK were able to watch Wilmer pruning so much of those plants on the terrace! He sure did have great tools and pruned it all so beautifully! How smart you were to stay back when he blew off the terrace with that powerful tool! I just love seeing all of you whenever possible! I love to help my Mom like you do for Wilmer and the other farm guys! Hope you can all hug Martha for me and have a great day! Nice to hear from you Maddox and how nice you reminded us about birthdays coming very soon for Sophie and Zoe! Zoe, I'll bet you will have a wonderful weekend with your birthday coming up! Hope to hear more from you other buddies and will check back later! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello to everyone and especially happy birthdays and get well soons.
Well, it's good to see you up and supervising Wilmer's good work, Francesca Baby! I've gotten to sneak a moment on the computer while we enjoy our time in Pinewood. I am very sad to tell you, Francesca dear, that our old friend Mudd has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. I know she could be a bit of a PITA, but she was nice to you when you were a wee baby. Well, at least she hardly ever tried to eat you ;) Daddy Steve is very sad, you know he really loved her best, although he has always tried never to play favorites. Oh, FirstMama and Daddy Steve are building a new house-- well, at least Daddy Steve is doing the building part, FirstMama is planning all the pretty parts. It's going opposite where the pen for the alpacas was. Our old house will get torn down and a new lodge put up.
Roxy has discovered the joys of Balm Lake. She is not afraid to run in and get her feet wet. Of course the first thing she did was pee in it, but then haven't we all?
Oops, gotta run, they are about to pour the concrete floor and oh look, chipmunk!!!

  • Hello Francesca,Sharkey,Vivaldi,G.K.,Glue squad buddies,
Jimmy said I have been lackadaisical in my responses to my glue squad blog so I am here to comment in between naps! Really that boy reads too much!
What fun seeing G.K., Franny,Sharkey and pretty Vivladi busy watching the pruning activities. The hedges are very straight and I like the rock pathways. Maybe Ruby would like rock pathways?? Then she would not have to walk on wet grass.
Missy Chow, our Patriots play again tomorrow night. We really want player#5 to make the team!! Here's hoping!! He is Mom's favorite,
SOPHIE,HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Zoe, girlfriend, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! Party hard ladies...
Dixie boy glad you are having fun with George. Maddox, hope you are getting some sunshine and deck time today. Kirby, hope your tail and fur feel better. Dudley, Rebel, Ruby, happy woofs to all. Mom worked three shifts in two days so is chilling out now. Kitty, maybe in a former life you were busy at night nursing sick kittens like Florence Nightengale. Purrrrrs to you from Jimmy. We are not going to the fair but maybe petsmart???
Off to watch ESPN with my gran papa-
    ABBY the pug/peke/frenchie

  • Holy cow Wilmer has quite the audience! :)

My favorite photo is of Sharkey's rump hanging off the upside bucket! :)

I agree, Wilmer did an excellent job pruning. Wonder what he'll tackle next?

  • Good morning ladies, Vivaldi & Wilmer,
It is relaxing to nap to the clipping of the shears. I love to lay in the shade while Mimi & Papa do yard work. We don't have a blower, Mimi sweeps and bags.
Gosh, it's been so quiet at our house. Guess that's good. My ducks are all full grown and just about ready to leave. We did have a visit from a blue heron! He is fun to watch fly in with his big wings and long legs.
Did anybody howl at the blue moon last night?
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello Girls, G.K. & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
Sorry for not getting on earlier to post. I wasn't sleeping, I was helping Mom clean cupboards. She was up at the crack of dawn and cleaning away. You would think her sugar high would be wearing off by now..but...................................
she is busy. I love seeing you girls and G.K. supervising Wilmer. I have been quite busy with my landscaping duties, yesterday a mere 99 degrees. I work a bit, come in and lay on the tile for a loooong time and then work a bit more. Yep, I got my very own trout, de-boned as usual from Dad's fishing trip. Zoe, I have the perfect idea for a gift for Sophie's b-day tomorrow. I had a can for a treat yesterday of Turkey Stew and I went BA NER CO. Gave me lots of energy and I got out toys and more toys. She would like it, I know. Happy early birthday tomorrow Sophie. I haven't heard from Ivanka, Ivan or Black Mama on James---lots of licks and loving going out to you man. Brutus and Max, I know it is a hard job to keep Mom cheered up, but I know you can do it. Get her some Turkey Stew and she will be butt vrooming around the joint. Come to think of it, Lucinda, get some for James and he will butt vroom too. What Mom, humans don't do that--well, they are silly then, it is a real hoot. Hehehehehehehehehehe
Have a GEM of a day to ALLLLLLLL my buddies and their folks.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby
