Zen And The Art of Being a Chow Chow

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

Most people and animals who know me, don’t realize that I, G.K., am a highly introspective Chow Chow.  While I enjoy all the buzz and chatter around the farm, sometimes it’s nice for me to just escape and get away from it all.

I thought I would share with all of you one of my favorite places here on the farm.

Chow chows are Chinese in origin and were often used as guard dogs at monasteries. Chinese monks practiced meditation to put their minds in a state of tranquility, while searching for enlightenment.

Like those monks, I come here to meditate. Being surrounded by all of these beautiful plants gives me much serenity.

  • Hello son,
You are Lookin' good GK. I know exactly what you mean. Weather permitting, I always head to the deck in the morning. It is nice and cool and peaceful. The birds are talking to each other. The wind goes through your fur and feels so good. Heck, if it wouldn't be 2:30 in the morning I would head out there right now. Hehehehehehehe
By the way son, you looked awesome on the front and back covers of Chow Life magazine. I was on the cover of that magazine too. Your phone will be ringing off the hook when all the ladies get a look at you in the magazine. Ah Ha.
Well I am going back to bed. All the other Glue squad members are asleep so I should be too.
    Love you son,
    Your dad Maddox

  • I'm right with ya GK, quiet is nice.

I like the sunken garden. A hidden gem where you can regain your thoughts and think of...food! :)

    Happy Tuesday to you! :)

  • Hello F,S & GK - its so nice to hear about GK and his meditation garden. We also need to be in the back yard behind the gate otherwise exploring we would go. Martha (being the oldest) is the most well trained, so she doesn't tend to wander, but she's not 100% reliable either, and if she should see a squirrel, well, all training is out the window!
Well, more of our adventures on vacation - the great Cleansweep adventure went well, lots of stuff was removed from the garage and there is now space at least to put the garbage in the front. We supervised the selection of what went where, and since it was a pleasant day, and not too hot we were able to be comfortable doing it. No further adventures in the pool, Riley we hope has learned his lesson. We have all been learning/relearning to walk nicely on leash, some of us are better at it than others, Miz Lu (being a country dog) had the most problems, she likes to bark at everything and everyone. That of course gets Riley joining in, and in turn that gets some of the people we meet on our expeditions giving us the stink eye! By the middle of our route everyone has settled down, but what a bunch of noisy kids we are. I, Martha do bark occasionally as well, but I am much more refined and choose carefully what I need to bark at!
We want to send our thoughts and prayers out to Ruby's family today and hope that Ruby's dad gets some positive news. We are definately thinking about you all. Well, gotta go, will check back in later to see what everyone is doing ..... Love and Beardie bounces to all - Martha (writing today), Riley boy and Miz Lu.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, I am so happy to see a new blog all about handsome GK today! I do miss not seeing you two sweet, beautiful girls, but I know you will be back tomorrow!! GK, I love your attitude about your favorite places at the farm! I love peace and quiet, also and enjoy being with one friend at a time! You look so charming in every one of these photos! Hope you have another great day and hug F&S for me! Dearest Abby, sure hope you are feeling better and my prayers are with you! Hope to hear from all of you later since none of your comments are here yet! Have a cool day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello G.K. & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
So nice to see what you have been up to as of late, G.K. Meditation, hey, this is good and relaxing. I am sure it is just the cool of the day in this heat. Kirby, maybe meditation should be your bag, when Mom and Dad are gone, and then no evil chewing will happen. Zoe, at least the Frenchie got a home and hopefully won't be outside any more. BA NER CO humans doing that. Rebel, Brutus and Max, the Royal Baby was born and it looks like Ruby won't be the name since it is a boy, but you guys still have a chance. Dudley, what fun you must be having with Uncle Tim's daughter around. More people to give you hugs, right? Of course, James Dean, I am hoping for Abby's speedy recovery and that she will be home with you soon. Dixie Boy, you and I think alike in regards to water. However, I am liking a splash in the lake on hot walks. Martha, Lucy, and Riley, everyone must be feeling better from the coughing to have a POOL PARTY. Yahoo, what fun, even if it was short lived. I can just see the gazebo flying in the wind, like Dorothy and her house. You'll end up in OZ if you aren't careful. Maddox, I sure wish the Glue Squad could be flown in on Mama Martha's jet for the grand re-opening of Karen's kennel. I could be the party organizer. And Black Mama, I think you are right about a dog on the property to protect the tribe from the coyotes. The raccoons and skunks don't even like coming in my yard since my arrival. They walk the fence and stay in the back 40. Kitty, enjoy your sun bathes like I do and then come in to the air conditioning. I have no furniture downstairs for lounging, but have made do with a bed of toys until this nightmare of painting hell is over. It will be nice though when the first snow comes and I am enjoying it and some cocoa with the folks. Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • WHHHOOOSH~WHHHOOOSH! that's me smooshing my face in your fluffy fur...yea I know, but I love doing it ;-)
You look gorgeous G.K. simply gorgeous!
You need a zip-line type contraption allowing you to run a distance with the freedom of a retractable leash. Knew someone who had this contraption.
    Hope Abby is OK...
We had several Thunder-Lighting and strong downpours that left a lake in the dry back yard, maybe the Moss will come back green.

    Hugs to all my buddies
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Awwww big boy G.K. don't you look cute and so relaxed and at peace. I do understand why MommyM and everyone else aren't keen on your expeditions. The farm is a huge place with so many wonderful exciting smells but there are also some not to nice critters in the area - the coyotes! Maybe you can convince everyone that if you were given a fenced in area on the farm, you'd be really happy and not have to be leashed up.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

  • Hello G.K. and all my glue squad buddies!
It is wonderful to see you meditating in your beautiful sunken garden. You are one handsome dude! G.K. you have wonderful comments and have taught your son Maddox well, he meditates and contemplates life on a regular basis. Unrelatedly, so does my housemate James Dean the persian cat. He practices cat meditation every day!
It is so important to relax, clear your mind and appreciate the simple joys life brings us each day. I was very ill for a few days but with subcutaneous fluids, special medicine and special food and of course TLC my stomach is getting better!
I love all my glue squad buddies and the frenchie girls and G.K. too. Thank you for a great post!
    Abby the pug/peke/frenchie.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’m like GK, I did some meditation yesterday and one of those thoughts that one can not ignore struck me. It was at the tip of my tail and found it’s way into my mind. Before I realized it, I had blood on my tail, on my towel I use to lay on, and blood on the carpet in Daddy’s “mancave.” And to top that off, I had to suffer the indignation of having my tail bandaged up again. I tell you that sometimes it isn’t good for me to meditate too much. I guess napping is my thing in life; chewing the tail isn’t. Well, I’m in the “doghouse” again; move over Daddy, it’s just me.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • ..G.K...,you are such a handsome boy!..I like chows you are really cool woolly bears!..love, Black Mama p.s. Ivan and Ivanka are spending the nite..their people are off for a couple days..now they will make sure the naughty coyotes stay their distance..those big guys will be sleeping in the house..brought their beds with them..Lucinda and James are excited and Warrior Prince cookies are being baked as we speak!!!..for the new daily waggers..Basil, our beloved little pal was the Warrior Prince and these are his famous cookies!!!

  • HI GK & Glue Squad Buddies - Well, as they say, better late than never. I was one of those crazy days for everyone, hence, my late post. GK, you are soooo handsome-love pictures #1 & #10. I can also tell when there's a meal coming my way plus an extra treat or two. I have my own mediation spot too. It's behind the bathroom door and sometimes, I even close myself in for the night. Guess I can't get into any trouble while Mom & Dad are sleeping, hehe..
Maddox, I don't know the name of the cat across the street, but I'm sure Mom has a name or two for it especially when I get into overdrive and can't settle down. Abby, sure hope you are feeling better and will be home real soon. Ruby, keeping my paws crossed for your Dad. Kirby, hope you haven't taken off any more fur. Zoe, happy to hear someone will be giving your friend a new home. Hi Rebel, Dudley Do Right, Kitty, James Dean, Martha, Lucy, Riley, Black Mama, Dixie Boy, Brutus & Max. We had heavy rain today and some flash flooding towards the north. We sure needed the rain.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Greetings all!
GK you look so studly, man! Max and I feel your pain. We, too, are leashed in the back yard. And I know where you are coming from what with Max yapping at every single thing, animal and person he see, or he thinks you sees! Sometimes a guy just needs his quiet.
Hey, this is Max! All I'm doing is letting everyone know that I am here and they can't mess with me or mine, that's all. What's the harm in that? Huh?
I'm (Brutus) back, now...sorry about the inturrption, a guy can't turn his back without someone else grabbing the computer...jeez. Now back to the good stuff.
Ruby, we hope your Dad has some good news soon.
And we think your idea of picking up all the Glue Squad peeps and having a party is a GREAT idea. Count us in....we'll be out front with our bags packed waiting!
The weather is suppose to be "spring like" the rest of this week. Dad is off work Wednesday so hopefully Max and I will get some much needed outdoor time.
    That's it for now....
    Pugs and kisses!
    Brutus and Max.
