Vivaldi Loves His Catnip!

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, were outdoors the other day, when a very strong and sweet aroma filled the air.  We saw some commotion down by the long pergola and we went to check things out.

Sharkey, there's a very aromatic herbal scent in the air. Let's go see where it's coming from.

Crazy cat! He looks so euphoric!

Catnip, or Nepeta, seems to affect many cats in strange ways. Some stretch out really long. Others shake their heads, or stare, or even salivate. Some cats even run and leap through the air!

Franny, that sounds like a lot of fun. Do you think it could have the same effect on us?

Look how Vivaldi is just staring into nothingness.

Hey, Franny! I'm beginning to feel a little tipsy!

Silly Frenchies! It's the chemical, nepetalactone, found in the plant's leaves that causes the feline elation. It does not affect dogs, so dream on!!!

  • What a hoot!!!!
Maxie and I were talking about planting some of that nepeta until Vivaldi said it doesn't affect dogs. Bummer, dude. Hey, Vivaldi, do you crave Twinkees and Ding Dongs afterwards? hahahaha
Hope everyone out there in Glue Squad land has a great and safe weekend. Keep cool.
    Brutus and Max...peace out!

  • Trippin' is right! :)

I guess F&S will have to get their buzz on chasing squirrels! :)

I like how Vivaldi is loafin' while Wilmer is doing the heavy work.

It's still unbelievably hot here in NH. Temps to reach high 90's with uncomfortable levels of humidity. Yuck. Double yuck!

Happy weekend to fellow gluey's and critters! :)

  • Good morning everyone,
This was a funny post today. You girls are soooooo silly. When you work, which is quite a lot, you work hard. But when you unwind, you do funny stuff. I guess this would be a perfect example of the Power Of Persuasion. I am thinking real hard and I have a great idea. I am going to put some biscuits on the floor to surround Karen with them. This could go two ways. Either she will give me a mega pile of biscuits OR she will eat them. But, wait a minute, she has to eat soft foods right now so guess who is getting a mega pile of biscuits today? Hooray to the Power Of Persuasion. Hehehehehehehe
    Love to all,
    Maddox
Have a great weekend and stay cool

  • Good Morning F & S

Too funny - Vivaldi is stoned - haha! Did he get the munchies and raid the cat food? Hide your dog treats!!

It's Friday gang - yahoo!! And it's going to reach 100 here today so you know what that means - INDOORS for old Zoe and Dad. This heat is suppose to break this weekend so maybe I'll get some deck time with Mom, we'll have to wait and see.

I'm going to love this weekend no golf for Mom so that means lots of time with her kids :) Speaking of kids, Dad got a call about a Frenchie who is 4 years old and the people purchased her to breed and she she is a dud so now they don't want her. The worse part is they keep her outdoors!!! Can you believe someone keeps a Frenchie outside? Mom and Dad felt really bad and might be bringing her to live here. I'd have to have a heart to heart and tell her I'm the Queen here but I would welcome her to our home. We should know something today, I hope she can find a good home.

Well have a great weekend everyone. Make sure you all drink lots of fluids and keep cool.

    Zoe

  • Zoe:

Mom adopted me in 2002 from French Bulldog Rescue Network. They have volunteers across the country. They could be very helpful to your parents and the other Frenchies' owner in finding a foster home and searching for a permanent new home for that poor girl. There are other Frenchie dedicated breed rescue groups as well. Clearly that girl deserves better. You guys are GREAT for stepping up. Biscuits for you! If you know all this, I apologize - I don't get around to the comments section often enough, so everyone is new to me.

  • Oh, I am so mad. I saw Zoe's post about the Frenchie that lives outside. Any dog is at risk out in this heat but especially the shorter muzzled ones like Chows, Frenchies, Pugs, etc. and then the people got her to breed and it didn't work out so now they have no use for her? What idiots. There are reputable breeders but people like this are not considered breeders. They are butt heads. AND, the person that sold or gave them this Frenchie is just as bad. They are either like the people they left their Frenchie go to or they didn't do their homework on finding a good home for her. What a shame. Zoe, you and your family are so special for caring about this girl.

  • Morning Girl, Ivaldi & Glue Squad - I think the cat across the street from our house needs a little catnip. When he/she comes out and I see; well, that's what Mom calls overdrive. He/she is free and I get into trouble from barking. I'm only doing what I am suppose to do, right??? Well, another hot & humid day, may reach close to 100-way too hot!! Hope the weatherman is right and it will break this weekend. But in the meantime, plenty of cool tile & a/c for me today. Stay cool everyone and have a nice weekend.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • How funny I just gave Kitty some catnip and watch with delight her frenzy of joy! Wow how can Wilmer wear black on a hot day??? I don't have good luck growing the catnip. Vivaldi your fur coloring and fur looks just like Kitty this year, lots of red in it.
Zoe I do hope you'll be able to do something for the unlucky Frenchie...what is wrong with these people? Greed!!! :-(
Hot and humid again, we need rain and there might be some coming with cooler weather. Hubby is golfing right now, what are they thinking!!!
Everyone have a wonderful and safe weekend.

    Hugs to all
    delia & Kitty =^, ,^=

  • Hello Girls, Vivaldi and Glue Squad Buddies,
What a lot to cover today before the weekend. The catnip on Vivaldi sounds like the skunk smelling stuff they harvest on a main street, Wadsworth, nearby us. This stuff is for people I hear, but Mom doesn't like that our air always smells like a skunk.Vivaldi you are high as a kite, OMG!!! Chips for you!!! Hehehehe. F & S, you are silly thinking it affects you. You are having fun though!! Now for the Frenchie that needs you to look after her Zoe. I cannot think of a better home. You are always to be Queen, but you can train her in the best ways of the world. Mom was lucky the cops didn't arrest her yesterday. There was a dumb idiot lady out in the sun at the grocery store with her pug on a leash and he was in the sun on asphalt. Mom went up to her and said, I think I should take your shoes off lady, and make you stand without water on this asphalt. Then you would know what you are doing to your dog, that shouldn't even be your dog. Mom went into the store and got him water and he drank it and just laid down. She called animal control. OMG!! You are right Zoe and Maddox, some people are just idiots. Too bad we can't get this Frenchie to James and Lucinda and Black Mama for a good home. I am fired up now, so I better go on my walk to cool off. Have a GEM of a weekend all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, I can't thank you enough for showing us how happy handsome Vivaldi is enjoying the catnip that Wilmer is cutting by the pergola there at the farm! How nice that Martha likes to dry it and add it to toys for all of her kitties! I realize it doesn't affect us doggies and I think the heat out there made you 2 sweet girls so silly and you looked so cute! Hope you have a cool weekend and please hug GK and all the kitties if you can for me and I love you all! How fun to hear from Brutus, Gail, Maddox, Zoe, Puck, and Missy Chow already this morning and will check back later to hear from the rest of you buddies! Zoe, sure hope you save that Frenchie ASAP! My Mom saved me way back in 2004 and my prayers are to that sweet Frenchie! God bless all of you! Stay cool! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Good morning my silly ladies!
Vivaldi must have been the happiest kit on the farm, for sure ;)
I had a roll in the cool grass under the crabapple tree yesterday. I tried to take a sun bath in the grass, but it was just too hot.
I am so mad & sad to know about that Frenchie having to live outside! I hope Zoe's folks call someone to rescue her.
Mimi & Papa are going to an antique show tomorrow, other than that, it will be quiet. They're watching the British Open in the mornings and talking about a trip. I wonder if I could go too?
Well, have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello VIVALDI, Sharkey, Francesca, Kitty, maddox, puck and all my buddies,
Well we were laughing so hard at the girls rolling in the catnip patch!! What a funny post! Vivaldi looks like it is a good bunch of nip-nip. Must be for medicinal purposes... far out. Hope mom finds some more fresh nip for me out by the back door.
Kitty, you have the right idea being shaved down for the summer, I am so HOT in my long persian hair.
Zoe, its nice you and your family are helping out that poor frenchie dog. What is wrong with some people who keep their dogs outside????
Maddox, dude, hope you get that big pile of biscuits.
Abby has been acting up, getting muddy, getting into "puppy" trouble, keeps muttering she is honoring Corabelle.
Mom is finishing up a nine day work shift schedule tonight, tomorrow she is doing a race with Military obstacles.. The Rebel race!!Should be fun.
Hope everyone keeps COOL and Zoe hope you get pool time!!
Purrrs and nip nip for all the cats, biscuits for all the dogs, drinks for all the humans..
    James Dean the persian boy

  • Oh Francesca Baby, you and Sharkey are so silly!
Puck, I am so glad you were saved through French Bulldog Rescue Network. My FirstMama was one of the 'founding mothers' of the group and my now Mom works very hard for them doing fundraisers and running their Junior Volunteers program. I just know that Zoe and her mom won't rest until that Frenchie is safe!! I don't like being out more than 20 or so minutes in this heat and that's WITH being soaked with water from my ongoing battles with The Water Monster.
Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend, and stays cool!!
    A bientot!

  • Well Vivaldi that catnip will certainly make you forget all about the heat. Ladies you and your catnip quest. It wouldn't surprise me to see you two dressed in lab coats trying to concoct your own doggie nip to market and make a fortune!

Zoe you and your family are so kind. I hope this little Frenchie can find a loving family but I can see you, T-Bone, and Sophie welcoming her into your abode. I bet Precious is sending her blessings as well. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe weekend!

  • ..we ferals are livid..absolutely livid that someone would not want a dog because they could not breed the poor the girl..a--holes!!..good job, Lynn, we glue squaders would have bailed you out of jail..more a--holes!! we need some cat-nip to calm down...!!!love, Black Mama and tribe
