The Old Prey Drive Kicks It Up A Tree - Er...Notch

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey, G.K., and I were enjoying some time together outside when a squirrel was seeming to taunt me.  Frenchies don't like to be taunted and I guess I got a little carried away.

G.K., Sharkey - Do you see what I see? That squirrel looks entirely too relaxed! I have to admit that I'm miffed by this behavior. He needs to be taught a lesson!

Wow, Francesca! Your prey drive really kicked in this time! You jumped clear up into this apple tree! Astounding!

I saw that squirrel duck into this hollow hole.

Maybe my gnawing trick will work.

A lot of people use apple wood for grilling and smoking meat. It does taste good - kind of mild and sweet. I hear it's good with poultry and pork. I wonder what it would do to the taste of squirrel?

Hey squirrel - I know you're in there! I can smell you!

I'll just keep gnawing. My head will soon fit into the opening.

On second thought, my jaws are beginning to ache.

I wonder how a Frenchie gets down from a tree?

  • Oh my, Francesca, you are one determined Frenchie when it comes to squirrels. I can picture in my mind if you would ever catch one and bring it to the house for Chef Pierre to barbecue it or something. Hehehehehe
I didn't read Monday's comments yet. I worked all day yesterday and came inside and collapsed. I just woke up to get a drink but I will read them later
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Aw, poor Mr. Skwerl, he was enjoying a lazy dazy day until "Frenchie" Alert was in high gear! :)

Luckily, there are holes in trees for critters to escape to, huh! :)

I have a feeling this won't be the end of the squirrel escapades on the farm.

    Happy Tuesday!

  • Good Morning F & S

Franny I'm impressed - good job on hunting down the varmat. I would hang out there until the bugger pops its head out of the hole ;) And while you are waiting you can do some grooming, floss your teeth on the tree bark. My teeth are a mess, mom said they look like a picket fence - no two are in line. They are nice and white just scattered all around my mouth :)

Not much time to chat today mom as an early meeting. I'm waiting for my breakfast to cook right now. I've had an upset tummy so mom is making me ground beef and white rice. She is such a good mommy :)

  • Wow Francesca I am really impressed!
Good job chasing that squirrel! I do not tolerate any squirrels in my yard but cannot jump up high like you. How did you get down? Maybe G.K. helped you out, he's a smart fellow.
Zoe, can you please pass me some of that yummy rice and ground beef? Sorry to hear your tummy is upset, maybe the heat and humidity here in Ny and NJ.
Maddox, are you catching zzzz's out on the deck?
    Where is Ruby Gem?
Wonder what Kitty is doing today? early yet so might chat later, Mom is off today so no work! 21 dogs and cats at work for the holidays now. I was very confused last night, five pugs there, they look like my kin.
Keep cool glue squad, high paws and woofs-
    Abby the pug/peke/frenchie girl

  • Good morning Frannie & G.K.
Looks like you two had a swell time outside yesterday! I'm with Gail, poor Mr. Skwerie was just sittin' in the tree and along came a Frenchie & in the hole Mr. Skwerie went!
Frannie & Skwerie sittin' in a tree, but not k-i-s-s-i-n-g!
I have a visitor. My best friend, Aubrey is here for one night. I haven't seen her for 2 years! She was in Texas but now she's home for a little while. I was so happy that all I could do was roll on my back, show her my substantial tummy and wait for lots of belly tickling & kisses. I even was so happy that for the first time ever I managed to jump up on the sofa so I could sit by her. I did miss on my first try and bounced off the cushion & onto the floor, but that didn't stop me! No sir ree bob!
    I love my Aubrey!
Have a great day everybody with someone you love, too.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Oh boy, squirrel chasing! I'm going to report you to Dr.Pia and Minnow ;-)
Francesca you gave a go at it, even trying to chew the doorway to their home...my goodness!

I can't believe Kitty sleeps all day out on the deck in the heat...once I caught her on her back all her legs spread open, wish I had been fast enough to take a photo...soooo funny!

    Got our air-conditioner fixed yesterday...pheeew...
Stay safe, cool or dry, which ever it may be

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Francesca, we need to meet! Wow, you sure have a high prey drive like myself. Mis is expecting me to get caught in the crux of the maple tree one day. Blackmail pics she calls them! Just be careful not to re-injure your neck! Down time is no fun!!!
Zoe, hope your tummy gets to feeling better. I myself have a cast iron stomach. Except I can't eat poultry. Makes me too gassy!!!
Not much happening today. We had lightning and thunder all afternoon yesterday. Izzy though that me and Zeke were being wimps. Since when did she get over her fright?? She just kept barking and growling and complaining all afternoon that she wanted to play! Geezzz! She is still afraid of fireworks, gunshots and loud pops. I am too.
Ruby you ask a few weeks ago if any of us came to or new homes with a fear of thunder. Yes, I was terrified, but since I had only been an outdoor dog, I was more fearful of staying inside. So for about two months, Mis had to keep me outside until I got more comfortable inside. Those storms inside my igloo were the worst. Mis would watch my pen from the back door, just in case I freaked too bad. I'm glad she took the time to help me through my fear. Of being inside that is, I will never get over thunder!
Got to go! The cousins are here!

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! Sweet Francesca, I am over whelmed that you crawled up on that apple tree to find that squirrel and did a lot of chewing on that tree hole! How nice that we finally go to see handsome GK and always love to see Sharkey, also! How did you get down from that tree! Jumping down would be rather dangerous! I love all 3 of you and hope you are doing fine! Maddox, I kind of did the same thing as you did yesterday helping Mom clear out our kitchen to get a new stove! Gail, those were nice comments from you again! Zoe, sure hope your teeth and your tummy are much better! Hi Abby, great to hear from you again! Glad you enjoyed those pugs! Rebel, how great you got to see your great friend Aubrey and got to enjoy being so close to her! I got to see my Uncle Tim's daughter Rissi I had missed for about a year and really enjoyed her petting me! Can't wait to hear from the rest of you buddies real soon! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Girls, G.K. & Glue Squad Buddies,
OMG!!! A Frenchie up a tree without a paddle. It is all fun and games, until you can't get down. And what about that disc problem in your back Francesca, have you lost your mind and do you want to be caged for a month again? Let G.K. do the tree jumping. Probably one little spring and he would be in the top of the tree.

I had soooo much fun yesterday when my people sister came over and fixed us all a yummy dinner for the folks anniversary a couple weeks ago. There was appetizers to dessert and I loved it. Sara said she thought my manners were greatly improved and I am a real social butterfly now giving kisses. But now today I am a bit sad as Dad left for 3 days fishing. Mom keeps reminding me that usually means some trout for the Ruby Gem. I will keep dreaming of that. Zoe, I bet you are having tummy problems from all the partying on the 4th. I am sure I saw a news release there was a partying Frenchie on the 4th at Ann's house eating every cheese curl in site. Could that have been you? Hehehehehe Abby, how fun to see pugs at your Mom's work. They probably thought you were their aunt or something. Oh, one could thing while Dad is fishing---it is Christmas in July on t.v.---movies and popcorn and air conditioning. My kind of day. Martha, Lucy and Riley, are you all getting settled in the new home with the pond and pool? In the winter, you could ice skate on them, huh? Dixie Boy, I hear it is really HOT in the south. Hope you have a cool deck like Maddox and Kirby. Rebel, I can see you now with Aubrey having a PARTY. Yahoooo!!!! Dudley, Missy, James Dean, Kitty, Sonya, Gail, Black Mama, Delia, Baby Favor and all my Glue Squad Buddies, stay cool and have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Francesca Baby, I always knew were a chip off of the old block, but I never realized you were a splinter off the apple tree! We used to have an apple tree climbing dog at this house, but it was before I lived here. Now he lives in Seattle and the apple tree had to be cut down because it was sick. I already knew where your determination to get squirrels comes from, but I am thrilled to see that you are also a climber just like me, although I've never made it up a tree.
We are resting up for the upcoming weekend. It is Bastille Days in Milwaukee and we will be at the French Bulldog Rescue Network Kissing Booth. Hopefully we will raise a lot of money for poor needy Frenchies.
    A bientot!

  • yo.. fellow glue squaders...still more talk about another doggie..Lucinda does not think it can be a cattledog...there could never be another naughty Cora-Belle..so this will be interesting..meanwhile i must tend to my tribe..over and out

  • Sorry we are so late with this posting. We have to wait until Mom or Dad fires up the computer and pulls up the Daily Wag. Some things should be first on the daily list, but they don't ask our opinion.
Since the 1st of July we have had 5 1/2 inches of rain! It finally ended Sunday, but now we have the horrible 3H's. Heat, Humidity and Haze. I, Brutus would rather have the rain. Maxie hates getting wet, but since he doesn't have much of a nose he can stay outside long in this heat. Thank goodness for air conditioning! If only Mom would let me control the temperture! But I am going in for a day of beauty (Mom's words, not mine!) next Tuesday so alot of this fur will be gone. I will be a sleek handsome stud! (well, the stud part is long gone)
Francesca, Max and I feel your pain with those darn squirrels. It's like they are laughing at us! And Mom and Dad continue to feed them! Mom always survives the grounds before she opens the door to let me out back. Just in case there's rabbits or squirrels in the yard. Just once I would like for her not to have that eagle eye. Of course, I would probably not be fast enough and the critter would get away and I would be stiff and limp for a few days. Ah, but one can dream...
    Until next time....Pugs and kisses.
    Brutus and Max
