It's Too Darn Hot!

Posted by F&S

It's been so hot in so many parts of the country.  Last week was pretty brutal here in the Northeast, but nothing like what they're experiencing in the Southwestern part of the country.  We wonder how pets there are staying cool?

Sharkey, this heat is just unbearable! I can't seem to cool down.

In this kind of heat, pet owners should never leave animals alone in a parked vehicle. On a hot day, it can become a furnace in no time - even with the windows open - which could lead to fatal heat stroke!

It's important to drink lots of water to stay cool! Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so have plenty of fresh, clean water around.

Francesca, I want to enjoy this view but I think the sun is actually cooking me! I certainly don't want to become what they call a sizzling hot dog!!

Sharkey, I have a good plan so that you can enjoy that view. Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun.

  • "Hot Dog"! :)

Very helpful tips to keep are fine furry friends safe from the heat. Let's hope responsible pet owners heed the warnings!

NH has been under a humidity cloud for weeks now with no end in sight. It's either snowing in Winter or humid in Summer! This state is wet! :)

    Stay cool!

  • Hi everyone,
Geez, lots of stuff going on. Missy Chow got remodeling work done, Rebel went on a kibble hunt, Dixie Boy took care of a home invasion criminal. Rain going on at lots of Glue Squad homes and drought at others. Busy day yesterday for my Glue Squad buddies.
Lets hope today is nice and calm and relaxing. Hehehehehehehe
Girls, those were all great tips for keeping cool on hot days. Karen got a nice cool pad that stays cool all the time. When you lay on it, it feels nice and cool on your belly. And when she has one of us at a dog show she has a spray bottle filled with water. The bottle has a real fine mister and she sprays our coats from head to tail to help keep us cool. If you ask your humans how good they feel on a hot day when they walk through a misting machine or get their hands misted at a grocery store where the veggies are misted, they know how good that feels to them. Maybe they will get misting bottles to use on the Glue Squad gang. And Jan also uses portable fans that run on rechargeable batteries at the shows too. And a shade blanket. It looks like a big piece of aluminum foil. She puts it over the back of her hatch on the the van and it really helps to keep the sun away. We long coated dogs and cats have to be real careful on hot days. And the shorter coated animals have to be careful about sunburn too. Speaking of heat, it is still cool out this morning so I am headed to the deck to take advantage of it before the sun comes out
    Love to all,
    Maddox
PS- Lucinda, James and Black Mamma, we are all thinking of you and send oodles of love your way

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
Yes, heat is the word around here. I love the Swamp cooler. I go out a bit and lay for a sun bath, about 2 minutes and then in for a couple hours on the tile. That little fan on the floor is a neat idea, and Maddox you have the deluxe treatment at your house. I don't get thaaaat hot unless I am dumb and stay out too long. We are taking walks at the crack of dawn. Yesterday I didn't get one, Mom got stalled at the grocery store and had to wait 5 hours, yes 5 hours to get home. They kept sending the wrong height tow truck. Geez as Maddox says. It was hot and she kept saying when she got home about some Calgon to take her away. She has forgot about this Calgon today and is back to herself. Thanks for the idea to be a therapy dog. Believe me I thought about it to be with Dad every minute, but.....you have to have a bath every time before entering the medical places, and you know that counts me out. I will just do double duty at home. Sonya says I am Lady Ruby Gem, Girl M.D. Black Mama I am keeping my paws crossed for James and all his tests. And Dudley, are you planning lots of fun for Mom tomorrow on her big day? Zoe, you will have to party extra hard for the 4th since not much going on here. Our love goes to the families of all the firefighters in Arizona. Stay cool all and have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Talking about a fine spray cooling down the air and I look outside and see rain again. Thos time it is so fine it looks as it is a fog. Now that cools things down a little but I don’t want to go out and get wet. As for the cat, he is inside in his own little house. He is in the storage room; I hope he doesn’t eat all the food stored there. He won’t because Mommy shut the cage door and he can’t get out. I wish he had a name. Calling him “cat” doesn’t seem right. Maybe I’ll name him Cat and be done with it. Half of his upper lip is white and the other half is black. Sort of looks like half a mustache. That’s what I’ll call him; Stache. Seems like a very fitting name to me. What do you think???
    Catch you later, Kirby

  • Good Morning Everyone!
    GLUB, GLUB, GLUB!
Excuse me, I was just outside. It's either the humidity or the rain that's got me talking like a fish which, by the way, I'm not a big fan of. They live in WATER!
In the heat, my cousins and I stay indoors unless something important comes around like UPS, FED-EX, USPS. I have to make sure that they obey the rules and stay on their side of the fence. Amazing how many have to be taught to read the signs, both written and implied by the dog baring his teeth and barking at them. I demand respect and take my job serious. Mis wishes that they would do the same.
    I digress.
We also drink plenty of water. Don't even think about 'Spritzing' me with water Maddox. NOT going to happen.
The cat creatures that live here stay outside in the gazebo on hot days. The one Mis calls Spade will even lie in the hot sun on occasion. He's the first inside to stay when the temps fall below 60 though. Mis told them the other day that they best be careful not to let the moss grow on them. I volunteered to roll them around. I've heard that it helps keep moss off of rocks, maybe it would help them. All joking aside I kind of like the little guys. One day I'll tell you about how much fun Opie and I had. He's the one that taught me how to respect cats.
Okay, back to work. Mis is painting stars on tin for the 4th. I'm trying to stay out of the paint.
Prayers to those that are ailing, well wishes to everyone else.
    See ya! Dixie Boy

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! It certainly has been hot where you sweet, beautiful girls live and I know how you feel when it gets too hot to stay outside! You do look cute in these photos even though you were too hot! It was 93 here on Sunday and 89 yesterday and I stayed inside a lot more than usual! We don't have AC because it only gets that hot a few times and Mom does all she can to keep it cooler inside! Hope you have another fun day and say Hi to GK! Hi Gail, hope you get a bit dryer and cooler this summer! Maddox, sure hope you feel cool and comfortable, also! Hope to hear from the rest of you buddies later today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Ladies:
It certainly has been hot up here as well, although we have had some relief these last few days with cooler temperatures. Last night we went for a walk and it was breezy and cool, like a fall evening. So nice .....
Well the pool turned green cause Mom and Dad were clueless about maintenance and there was no chlorine. Duh, we could have told them that, we couldn't smell anything so that should have tipped them off. The pool man came, educated them and we got the situation under control. It was a beautiful shade of aquamarine (not good) but we supervised Dad with the algae treatment and I think it should be fine now. We are all very careful to walk carefully around the pool, no running on deck. Riley of course had to find out why we can't run on deck, yesterday morning he was checking out the skimmer and nearly backed right off the edge, one leg went in, but luckily he didn't fall in. What a boy, he's always got to learn the hard way. Other than that we have been supervising the unpacking - Martha has found her new "go to" sleep spot and we especially like the tile floors in the lowest level of the basement! There were lots of fireworks last night for Canada Day, we don't like fireworks, they pop and boom and sizzle and they make us very nervous, kind of like thunder and lightning. I, Lucy was trying to educate Martha and Riley about them, but they just want to hide. I don't like them either, so we all hid together!
Well, gotta go, lots to do today. Love Martha, Riley & Lucy girl.

  • Hello Sharkey,Francesca,Ruby Tuesday, Maddox, Missy Chow, Black Mama,Zoe and all my friends,
Kirby, why don't you ask the cat what his name is? I am sure he knows and then if you want to give him a nickname that is fine too. We all have names that belong to us, cats too.
Very hot and humid again. I hope the girls get a nice nap by the A/C in Martha's home. We rely on breezes here. Abby gets to rest in A/C at the animal hospital, lots of boarder dogs and cats coming in for the Fourth.
I think its really nice you are helping your papa out Ruby Gem. Black Mama, James and Lucinda, hugs to all of you. Must go back and see what intruder Dixie Boy chased away. Hope Lynn is keeping cool after her truck towing yesterday, must have been stressful. Missy Chow hope you are getting ready to celebrate the fourth up in Boston! Boston STRONG!!!
Zoe, get ready for a wonderful pool party! Maddox, hope you have a nice cool spot on your deck. Rebel, hugs for you. Sweet Dudley, keep cool.
Off to birdwatch on the window sill!Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th!!
James Byron Dean the persian cat boy

  • I'm sorry you are so warm, Francesca Baby! I wish there was a way that my Auntie Ellen could make and send you one of her very cool cooling coats (from One Cool Dog: they are pretty AND practical!!!) but she would need your measurements. She would also make one for Sharkey, of course!
    A bientot

  • Good morning ladies,
Sorry you're so hot! It's cloudy & cool here in east-central Illinois.
It will get hot one of these days. But, for now, it's cuddle-up-on-a-blanket time for me!
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Awww you ladies look whipped from the heat. Looks like G.K. is sticking to the inside. I wouldn't mind taking about 20 degrees off of your hands. It's only a cool, overcast 65 degrees in Chicago.

Sending out prayers and hugs to Lucinda, James, and Black Mama. We love you all! Everyone have a peaceful, relaxing day.

  • Good Afternoon F & S

Yes I'm late today mom left the house at 6 to get in the office early so I'm just getting computer time.

F & S mom keeps a spray bottle close by for me, I love getting the cold mist in my face and on my body. We have 2 really big umbrella's on our deck plus some shaded areas so we can hide from the sun but when it gets really hot get us all in the air conditioning. Sophie likes to lay over the vent with her paws crossed, she is so cute :) T-Bone goes and lays in the Hostas plants under the trees, he said they feel cool on his dark coat.

Tomorrow mom is taking off from work to get ready for the party. She is picking up 2 bushels of crabs to cook!! I hate those things, they escape from the basket and run around the floor trying to pinch me. Mom makes me sit on the table so I'm safe. I think we have lots of kids coming so that means snacks for me :)

I probably won't get computer time tomorrow so I want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July !!!

    Zoe

  • Better late then never!! Had a doctor appointment for my knee and X-rays all is good, it takes 6 weeks to heal...
Another beautiful day with a cool breeze...tomorrow hubby wil do his Veterans thing and I'll go visit my youngest daughter... That should be fun, she has great parties!
Kitty has a new thing she does, she runs to the door hopping like a bunny shaking her fur... I suspect some bug bit her and she had not forgotten... Funny how she reacts to this!
Please everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July...for me I don't care for this loud celebration, but like what it stands for... A reminder of my citizenship.
JD purrrrfect Persian and all of Kitty's friends, try not to be scared of the fireworks so no one runs away!
    Love and Hugs to all,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=
