Horses In Summer

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies decided to go to the stable to check things out.  We discovered that Betsy and Rinze were out for a ride.  In all of this heat, that ride didn't last too long.

Come on, Sharkey! Let's go and see what's happening in the stable.

Hello, Meindert. How are you faring in all of this heat we've been having? It seems like you spend a great deal of time indoors in your nice cool stall.

Sharkey, this is a bale of hay, which the horses eat.

It's a nice mix that horses really like, including Timothy and Alfalfa.

Francesca, these bales are bedding straw, used in the stalls. It's kind of comfy, but bedding straw doesn't taste so great to horses, so they aren't likely to eat it.

Rinze, I was wondering when you and Betsy would return from your ride.

As you can tell, we Frenchies pant when we get hot. You look like you're moving kind of slow in this heat.

Betsy says that you and the other horses prefer staying indoors when it's so hot. The fans in your stalls must really help a lot.

You must really hate all of the flies that pester you all summer long. You've got all those nasty little biting flies, but just look at that huge thing ready to chomp. Betsy calls it a B-52!

Rinze, would you mind taking me for a ride, seeing that you're all saddled up?

Sharkey, get down from there! Rinze just came back from a ride and he's dripping with horse sweat! He's really hot!

Betsy, please take Rinze back to the stable and shower him off. Perhaps we'll come and watch to see how it's done.

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
TGIF!!!! What a week of heat. Those flies on the horses look horrible. I am soooo glad that Martha has wonderful fans in the stalls. Even in the heat we need to exercise, just early. Maybe we will get to see them get a bath--how fun---someone else bathing, not me. Took awhile to get through this a.m. due to an error posting kept coming up.

My Dad is home from fishing and brought the Ruby Gem a nice Rainbow Trout. Tonight he will filet them and yummo!! Also, there has been a big incident since Wednesday. Mama and Daddy Duck, who I like very well, in my back 40, not my yard, decided to come in MY yard. I heard the quacking and bolted out and Daddy knew to fly off, that he had come in my territory. Mom on the other hand did not, and she was waddling and quacking and Mom was yelling at me to stay away and said No, Ruby, and I was within a foot of duck soup and stopped, and Mama duck quacked and flew away scolding me all the way. I have regrets, but then too few to mention---a great man once sang that song. They haven't been back since. Oh well, Glue Squad buddies, what are you doing for the weekend? I know Zoe is having a PARTY. Yahoo!! Will there be a new pup at Black Mama's house soon---the story will be continued. Have a GEM of a weekend all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Morning Girls, Betsy, Rinze & Glue Squad-It was great to see you out and about, along with Rinze & Betsy. I know how Rinze felt after his walk, sometimes I feel the same way; but Mom & Dad wait till the sun is setting before we go for our long walk; and Mom takes water with us. Well, it's Friday once again, any plans anyone??? Zoe, you will be the party girl this weekend. Maddox, where are you? Ruby, I hear Dad caught a "rainbow" for you. Rebel, how's the duck family? Dudley Do Right, how are you? Abby & James Dean, are you going to work with Mom? Kirby Bear, have you dried out yet or is it still raining? We had some rain yesterday with a couple thunder boomers too. Kitty, what's new? Martha, Lucy & Riley, hope everyone is feeling better. Black Mama, any more news on a new family member? Baby Favor, is there a party planned this weekend for Millie, Happy Birthday, Millie-I know it's not until the 14th but wanted to send you early wishes. Dixie Boy, how are you? Well, got to run, cool air this morning, deck time. The 3 "H's" return next week :( Have a nice weekend.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I didn’t make it yesterday; too much going on around here after that rain on Wednesday evening. Another downpour lasting about an hour. The rain gauge out front measured over five and a half inches. Yesterday we had another storm which put down just over two and a half inches. It’s raining again this morning but not very hard. Daddy said not to worry, the record is forty days and nights of hard rain. Hope we don’t break that record. The River near here is out of it’s banks and the lakes are filled with as much as they can hold. So much for the good news around here. What’s good you ask? The corn is really growing and the melons are getting really big. That is unless they get too much rain. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Tongues are a waggin'! :)

Jeepers, I can see how the heat is affecting the four legged wonder dogs. Time to find a shady spot and have a tall glass of ice cold lemonade!

Humidity has finally waned a bit here in NH. Finally!

Keep cool my favorite furry critters!

  • Hello F&S, GK and all the GS buddies:
It sure looks hot for the poor horses, they need to have swimming pool to swim in, just imagine that, a pool big enough for horses to swim in. Cool!
Its been a bit cooler these last couple of days, but the heat/humidity is coming back soon, so we are getting our a/c cranked up and enjoying it inside. Lucy is pretty much OK now, but Riley boy is still making the most horrible noises - only when he gets excited - poor boy sounds quite awful, but its much less often than before. Hopefully everyone will be in good order by the end of the weekend. I, Martha did not catch anything and am in fine health!
We had company last night and got to be riding in cars - I went on the pickup leg, Lucy and Riley went on the drop off leg. We all had an outing and it was fun, we all love the car, its like a soothing baby buggy and we all fall asleep quickly!
Well, its Friday - lots to do on the weekend, Mom's going to tackle the garage, lots of stuff to donate/dispose of! We are getting there, just not too quickly! Ah well, Mom has some time off next week and we will supervise Operation cleansweep! We'll report back on the outcome.
Love and Beardie bounces to all our buddies, Black Mama we have a Black Max who leans a little to the wild side - I think you and he would hit it off!
Talk to every later, have a good and safe weekend. Martha, Lucy and Riley boy.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Hi you two sweet girls! How fun it must have been to go out to the stable to see Rinze, Meindert, and Betsy!!! Meindert looked fine, but Rinze sure looked sweaty after walking around the farm with Betsy! Bet you enjoyed going inside the stable to see Rinze get showered to cool him off! Hope you girls and GK get to go to Maine with Martha again and have lots of fun! It's a bit cooler here right now but could get hot read soon! Ruby, sure glad your Dad is back home and how great to get some Rainbow Trout! Sure glad you didn't hurt those ducks and hope they return soon! Stay cool! Missy Chow, how fun to read your awesome comments today and love all of your comments about our great buddies! I've been helping Mom pick lots of weeds in our yard and it has been a bit cooler! Hope all of you buddies have a great weekend! Will check back later! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello,
Ruby again. I forgot to tell my buddies Riley and Lucy to feel better. I hear ice cold lemonade with honey helps a cough. Tell your Mom that anyway and milk it for all it's worth. Love ya, Ruby

  • Oh goodie my favorite subject ~ Horses!!! :-)
I miss my horses more then you can imagine, they were my life for over 30 years...oh well life goes on.
F & S, I love your concern over the horses...Betsy that is a fancy rime on your helmet, never seen one of those!

Kitty brought home ANOTHER half-eaten Chippy...my goodness, it's not like we don't feed her..I made stew meat and chicken breast, yet she still goes and eats "Chippy Tatare"

Good Friday to all Glue Squad and DW gang
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hello Sharkey, Francesca, Meindert, and all my glue squad friends,
So nice to see the horses today, working out hard and exercising. Its hot but we all need to keep in shape! Franny, its nice you noticed the horse needed a cool down bath. Abby might get one tonight at work. Sometimes she has a real doggy scent in this heat. She has a new friend Ping at work who looks a lot like her. Ping is a pug mix too.
Kirby, we hope your corn and melon crops continue to do well despite the rain. Zoe, party girl, enjoy your pool party! Millie, happy birthday early! Missy Chow, we loved your coimments today. Ruby, great job swimming and enjoy your fish fry!
Maddox, hope you have a cool breeze on your deck. Sweet Dudley, enjoy your weekend. Kitty and Black Mama, my best purrrs to both of you. Hope Lucy and riley feel better.
Mom brushed me out so I feel better, long persian boy hair takes a lot of combing. Mom is working all weekend so it will be quiet at home for me, lots of time to read about the White House vegetable garden.
    Enjoy your weekend glue squad,
James Dean the persian boy cat

  • "Party people-all around feeling hot, hot, hot!" so says the great Buster Poindexter! Ladies you look a little warm, maybe a nice soothing nap in the barn with all your horse and donkey buddies. Betsy and Rinze had the right idea, a nice, slow ride before the heat really sets in.

How is everyone? The weather here either gets hot and humid or it cools down to the 70's. I know all you Chows Kirby Bear, Missy Chow, and Maddox would prefer that but I love the heat! I hope everyone has a safe and healthy fun weekend!

  • ..no horses here at the farm/ranch...Lucinda had one when she was young and they would go swimming together in a lake..I know Kitty, a good chippie dinner is so hard to resist..and a tasty mole every now and then, yummy!..guess what..the silly Chiweenies are coming for a Bar-b-que and lots of other doggies..the usual outdoor pen is being put up so they will be out of harms way..warrior prince cookies are being made by the dozens...steak and potato salad and lots of goodies..me and the tribe will be lurking around..Lucinda said she wishes all the glue squad could be here..cats, doggies, people..wouldn't that be fun..but I will let you know if everyone behaves..bet the Chiweenies wear their life jackets!...I better help James get the lawn furniture out and put up the Christmas lites..this looks like it is really going to be fun....gotta go..love, Black Mama
