Fire Island Fur 'Friendzy'!

Posted by Pia

The joy exhibited by a pup splashing in the summer surf is truly infectious! Watching a pooch leap through the breezy summer air... These are some of the moments I have been fortunate enough to witness this summer on Fire Island... and ones I'm certain will bring joy to my pals at the DW!

1 "Wait 'til I tell Frannie and Sharkey about this pup!!" Dr. Pia and new friend Guppy make a sand castle together!

2 "I was a bit hesitant to go to this strange place called... the beach..." Barkley from Hoboken, N.J.

3 "But after getting my paws wet and running a few sprints on the sand, I realized i'm a natural at rescuing balls from the surf... I never knew I could jump so high!" Barkley from Hoboken, N.J.

4 "I love this ball...I love this ball...I love this ball...I wanna marry this ball..." Rocky

5 "I'm hoping to be discovered by one of those NY modeling agencies... I think I'd make a really great tushy model..." Guppy

6 "Look I even have a heart on my back...it's natural...I haven't had any work done... really..."

7 "This is really my best side... Wait- what did you just say?... The Daily Wag...You write for the Daily Wag???"

8 "You know Frannie and Sharkey? Martha's Frannie and Sharkey? Bella, did you hear that???..."

9 "Seriously...I have a life size poster of them on my wall... "

10 "This is making me dizzy!...So you must be Minnow's mom! OMG, OMG! Check this out...I'm called Guppy because of this fish shaped beauty mark on my head... This is unreal... We have so much in common!"

11 "Promise us pups you will send our love to the Glue Squad and everyone at the Daily Wag!"

Witnessing a pup discover his ability to catch a ball in the crashing surf with pinpoint accuracy...Looking on, as newly adopted pooch realizes his human is not going to leave him....and will keep throwing that ball for him each and every time he brings it back.

These sights cannot help but make a human smile and share in the joyful abandon that only a canine can express!

I hope all of my fellow creatures are getting to indulge in the joys of summer - and that the humans fortunate enough to share some summer fun with a fur kid, are taking a moment to sit, stay and watch...

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

  • Hello Dr Pia!!!!!
Oh we wish we could experience a beach and the ocean. Max nor I like to chase balls or frisbes. If someone wants to throw a ball, let them go fetch! Wasn't my idea of throwing it in the first place!
Guess Maxie and I will hole up in the house again today. Can't wait for this heat wave to break so I can resume my watch over the 'hood. I'm missing a lot of the cute peeps walking the bike trail. But that a/c certainly if nice.
Pugs and kisses to all the Glue Squaders!
    Brutus....the brave.

  • Glue Squad,
Stay out of the heat today
That is all I have to say at this time
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning Dr. Pia

What great pictures and mom said you did put a smile on her face :)

Guppy is SO cute!! I can't get over how she likes to lay in the water and her beauty marks - just adorable.

Today would be a great day to head back to the beach it's going to be REALLY HOT!!!!!!!! I stayed indoors most of the day yesterday only went out to do my business and I think my agenda will be the same for the next 3 days.

    Stay cool everyone !

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you too Dr. Pia. I don’t do the beach thingy; too much hot sand for me. I guess I could be like the guy on TV and jump from beach towel to beach towel. But wait, Chows don’t jump that much. Our short legs keep us somewhat grounded. Just give some good cool grass and a big ole shade tree. Now you’re talking my kind of fun. Can’t get that much now days; summer is upon us and it’s hot outside. Another set of thunderstorms again yesterday evening and on into the night. Sooooo it will be nap time for me today until they come around again this afternoon or evening. Gotta love summer.
    Catch you later, Kirby

  • Hello Dr. Pia and new friend Guppy,
I know you will be discovered Guppy by a modeling agency for sure after the close ups. So glad to have met you and all your friends on the beach. Guppy, you should join in on the Glue Squad fun daily and post. We love everyone. I'm with Maddox, short on the words today, except, STAY COOL. Have a GEM of a day.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Oh goodie Dr.Pia at Fire Island! what great fun watching those pooches playing on the beach :-)
Love Guppy's markings, not only a fish, but a gorgeous heart. Rocky looks like he had a blast as well, and all of the fun loving pooches on the beach.

Kitty posted on F & S late last night, I was in bed already...but it was done, so not to miss a beat ;-)

We wish Dr.Pia a lovely continued summer.

Hugs to all of our DW Glue Squad friends and fur kids

  • Hi Dr. Pia & Guppy,
What great spots you have, Guppy! I think I would like the beach 'cause I like the lakeshore. It's rocky though and I think the sand would be softer on my toes!
Sure looks like a lot of fun on Fire Island. Are there any fires? hmmmmm....
Well, stay cool everybody :D .
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • ..beach doggies are cool...the Naughty One (Cora-Belle) used to run on the beach all the time..Lucinda and James live where you can drive on the beach (don't worry..plenty of room for cars and people and doggies and horses..and there is an area just for people)..the beach is about 20 miles away, so a mocha and yes, a maple bar and they go for a beach drive and watch all the doggies enjoying the surf....yikes..James just spotted a coyote in the field ..must alert the tribe so no-one goes missing..bet she has babies hiding in the woods and a feral cat dinner would taste good.yikes!..later, Black Mama
