Because Fire Island is an island without cars (and a protected habitat) it's common to meet local deer - grazing just feet away! They are such gentle creatures!

Whenever we found a neat looking shell, we made sure no one was living in it before taking it as a souvenir. And for crabs who washed up on the sand, we were sure to help them get unstuck and back into the ocean...

It's important to always remember that we all share this planet - and we have the power to make life better by looking out for one another- kinda like everyone on The Glue Squad and at The Daily Wag!!

While the summer's extreme heat seems to have let up just a bit- it's important to keep in mind how even mild heat, can pose great danger to our fur kids. Please be sure to share this critical info. with your friends and neighbors too- Many humans are surprised to learn just how quickly the summer heat can wreak havoc on our furry loved ones. Remember-they depend upon us to keep them cool, hydrated and out of harm's way.

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you too Dr. Pia. Yep, it’s hot during the summer months here in Georgia too. This summer hasn’t been too bad with all the rain we have had. That keeps it cooler but the humidity is really awful. Yesterday it was only 92 but the hear index was 102. Now when it feels that hot outside I just want to stay inside where it is cooler. I feel so sorry for some animals which have to stay outside all the time. The “cat” doesn’t want to come inside and stays out in the shade most of the time. What ever he wants is fine with me, just don’t expect me to do the same. Hehehehehe
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Dr. Pia & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
Love seeing all the "kids" on Fire Island. #1 is my fav---they look like they are having a great time and pals. The jellyfish are cool---never have seen one of those. Yiks!!!! Thanks for taking us along on your vacation Dr. Pia. Best go, all the painting is done, now prepping for the carpet next week. Have a GEM of a day.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi Dr, Pia and Minnow, WOW! You sure must have had a great vacation where you went and I love all of these great photos of the dogs, cats, deer, spider, seagull, jellyfish, and all of those cute shells! Of course my favorites were those beautiful dogs and cats, but I loved all the rest, also! Did you get to go on the vacation Minnow? I'll bet you had a great time, if you did! Haven't seen any comments from our Glue Squad yet so will check back later! Hope you have a great weekend! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • What cool photos! Looks like a glorious day on the beach! Can't wait to go to Lake Michigan with our daughters and our grandogs, when they come to visit in August.

I'm known for not holding back when there is cruelty that I witness...I just can't understand why some people don't use "Common Sense" Yes, they depend on us!!!!

Thanks Dr.Pia for all you do! ;-)

  • Dr. Pia, that looks like the greatest place to vacation. Mis just loves those places where the native environments are not compromised for the sake of human comforts. Although she's not against A/C and other creature comforts. It's just nice to know that places do exist where natives rule! Love the shell art too!
Hope all the glue squad are doing well. I think Mis is going to stay home today! Oh Boy! Me and the cousins are already enjoying the cooler air that arrive last night with a bang! Still humid but better.
Okay, she said we have to work so I'll talk some more tomorrow.

  • Hello F,S, GK & all the GS buddies: Dr. Pia - the beach pics look fantastic and we would have been up and down that beach a million times - its hard to get Martha out of the water at all. Great vacation!
Not much happening today, cooler up here now, supposed to be a fantastic weekend, so we'll be out and about I'm sure.
Mom is talking about putting in a new garden this weekend if its not too hot, we'll definately be supervising the effort (although sometimes we do tend to wander away to sleep under the bushes in the shade). However we always have the best of intentions!
Well, gotta go, there is a lineup waiting for computer time. Love and Beardie bounces to all my good buddies - Martha, Riley boy and Miz Lu.
