Visiting The Farrier At The Stable

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies were cruising around in the Kawasaki yesterday and we headed towards the stable.  We were so happy to see a familiar truck and we stopped to say hello.

Sure enough! Linda Friedman, the farrier must be here.

Linda is responsible for putting shoes on all the horses. Did you know that the word, farrier, comes from the Latin, ferrum, meaning iron horseshoe?

Hi there, Linda! Which horse are you working on today?

Ah-ha! Sasa is getting fitted for his springtime shoes.

You've already made the shoes to fit his hooves. Shoeing is quite a complicated process, as each shoe is custom fitted onto each hoof.

You do very nice work, indeed! You're always so careful to fit the shoes perfectly so that the horses are comfortable wearing them.

It's been great visiting you, Linda and thanks for lifting me into the Kawasaki.

  • Good morning everyone,
Linda does a really good job with the horses, doesn't she? I wonder how long she has been a farrier. Just wanted to say Happy Birthday Weston. He is Ruby"/s human brother. Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Linda is like the shoe fairy for horsies! :)

Great to see all the animals are cared for so well on the farm.

    Happy Day to all!

  • Hello,
I'm back. I have an issue with our sweet little Zoe. Girlfriend, why are you picking on my unsuspecting son GK, telling the girls to blame the missing bark on him. Shame Zoe, shame. Martha is too smart to fall for that one. She knows he would chew up higher on the tree IF he were chewing the tree. As you can see, GK is not a suspect cause if he were, the protective fence around the bark would go up higher than what it is. Besides, when he does something wrong, he does it much bigger than chewing bark off of a tree. When he messes up, he gets an escort in a police cruiser. Hehehehehehehe.
Still nice and cool so I am heading to the deck. Karen is headed to Home Depot so I guess that means another work day here.
    Maddox
PS - Zoe, I was just kidding around with you. I know you take responsibility when you go on a TP rampage and Francesca and Sharkey take responsibility for their actions also.

  • Good morning ladies,
Linda is another v.i.p. for the farm! I know the horses appreciate her a lot. Mimi's Great-great-great Grandpa was a farrier in England. He made the wooden chest, hinges and handle for his daughter to sit on while she was aboard ship coming to American a long time ago. He painted her initials on the top and they still look like new.
I said Goodbye yesterday to 3 friends. They are moving to Florida. The dog population is getting smaller. Good bye Teddy, Bear and Melissa the bichon fries. Teddy & Bear are Llasa Apso (did I spell that right?) We loved barking at each other! LOL
    Sunny day here again.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’m glad I’m not a horse and have those ‘shoes’ nailed to the bottom of my feet. It’s hard enough getting my toe nails cut let alone all that filing, fitting and nailing going on at my feet. Mommy and Daddy’s son is a Blacksmith. That means he is a farrier too. He travels all around putting shoes on horses in many states; Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. He must be pretty good with those race horses. I can tell it’s summertime here; a thunderstorm every day. Hope none come by again today.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Francesca,Sharkey,Linda the farrier, Maddox,Zoe,Rebel, Sweet Dudley, Black mama cat,Kitty, Baby favor, Ms.Chow and all my buddies.
So interesting to see Linda hard at work fitting all the horses with new shoes! We loved seeing her tools, Mom does metalwork and loved the anvil and hammer.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WESTON!! Purrs to you! Hope Ruby is giving you a big party!
Maddox, we were laughing about your comments to Zoe today but really she must have been kidding. That prey instinct just got the best of Franny. Maybe she needs a new kong or chewie from petsmart. Abby loves greenies when she goes there. I do not think she touches bark or anything wooden.
Zoe, girlfriend, are you enjoying this perfect summer weather? Sunshine and moderate temps today on the east coast. Rebel, sorry your dog buddies moved but maybe you will meet new friends. You always have your glue squad friends too.
Missy Chow, how are you doing up by Boston? Kirby, did you have to be shaved down this summer? Ruby, seen any critters in the yard? Abby is snoring but my mind is zooming along wondering..
Have a great, peaceful, fun day!!
Jimmy Byron Dean the persian boy cat

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You sweet girls sure love to visit all of those great people who come to the stable to take care of your friends the Friesians! How fun to see you enjoying your visit with Linda, the farrier who was going to add shoes to Sasa! Sasa looked so handsome! Hope you have another great day and say Hi to handsome GK! It sure was fun to hear those great comments from more of you Glue Squaders yesterday! Fun to hear from Maddox, Gail, Rebel, and Kirby so far and hope to hear from the rest of your a bit later! Have a great day everyone! We are having clouds and then sun lately and Mom is repotting her lovely tomatoes, lettuce, etc. in much bigger pots and cutting the tall grass! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
You girls teach me something new every day---a farrier, I had never heard the name. And Kirby, your people brother is one too. I bet Mama Delia knows all about this stuff too, with her having horses through the years. A cloudy, rainy day here, but that is o.k. with me. The vet is coming to the house to give me my lepto shot. I hear with raccoons around it is a must. I am excited just thinking of her coming---she brings great treats. And today is Weston's birthday--thanks Professor Maddox for the b-day wishes. He likes all my Glue Squad buddies. He wanted burgers for his special b-day dinner and party. I am more than fine with that---yummo! Still waiting for the final o.k. for his closing maybe tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see the inside of the house. Rebel, I am so sorry for your friends leaving, but maybe new ones will move in where they lived. Maybe Martha, Lucy and Riley will get to make new friends at their new place too. Dudley, your big day is getting closer, are you getting excited? Abby, do you still get to go to Mom's work and visit in the hot months? Black Mama I must tell you that on my walk around the lake yesterday there was a man on a bike, pulling one of those baby things with a zipper net and guess what was inside--5 Blue Healer puppies, and their Mama running beside the man. I had to stop and visit and tell him of my heroine, the great Cora Belle. He said the pups were 5 weeks old and it was a must that Mama went out running, she loves to run. The pups were the cutest things going. I have Cora Belle's photo in a frame and now I know what she looked like as a puppy. She must have liked to run like this Mama dog too. I love and miss her lots. Black Mama I am so glad that Lucinda and James have you. Keep cool and have a GEM of a day all.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Linda the ferrum???? sounds like an animal! Being a Farrier is so hard on your back :-( wonder if those Friesians ever get to go barefooted.

Maddox I love your photo on Jan's FB you look so hug-able.

Happy Birthday to Weston! Ruby, be extra good to him today.

Off to cleaning gutters, the Hickory trees had a great deal of flower-type drop allllll over :-( it will be a bumper crop of nuts this year, more sweeping and raking in the fall.

    Happy Wednesday!
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • ..first off..Happy Birthday to Weston!..I will act naughty in your honor..like stalking lots of birds and mice..yes, Ruby, the Cora-Belle ran like the wind when she was younger and blue-heelers are born all white and fluffy and then turn color...Samantha, Lucindas daughter, has a red heeler..Rototiller is her name, she likes to dig..she lives in Las Vegas..we call her the Desert Dog!..thank goodness, there will be no beady eyed rodent living here..Lucinda finally agreed it is a bad idea..I say the worst idea she has ever had!..today we are mowing grass and then having a bar-b-que...Ivan and Ivanka of course will be here..so that means I have to help Lucinda make the famous Warrior Prince cookies..over and out, love, Black Mama

  • Farriers and horses and Frenchies oh my! Linda does a great job every time she visits. When do the other horses get fitted for their Summer shoes?

Happy Birthday Weston! I hope his new home is almost ready for him. Awww Rebel that's sad that your buddies are moving away. I hope they keep in touch with you. Have a happy day everyone!

  • Hello F&S, GK and all the GS buddies:
Linda the Farrier sounds very interesting, we have a Farrier who lives up the road from us, it is very interesting to watch him work.
Happy Birthday to Weston - best of luck with the house closing. Did we hear there may be a new puppy at his house? It is beautiful out today, I think we'll go outside and bark our fool heads off at the people weeding in the garlic field right beside us - someone left their hat in the field, Riley (being very skinny now he has his summer do) slipped through the fence and brought it home, then started to chew on it. The yard is now full of zillions of pieces of dog chewed straw and the hat is no more! Hope the owner wasn't looking for it!
Talk to you guys soon, Martha, Lucy and Riley boy.

  • I see you were confined to the Kawasaki after your squirrel chasing adventures yesterday, huh Francesca Baby? Well, visiting your Friesian friends must be almost as fun as catching squirrels.
Millie and I visited our chiroprator today and it turns out that Mom and I were correct-- I do have a little bit of a knee problem; a small cruiciate tear in my back right leg. But what I love about Dr. Pedro is that he told Mom that I should still be able to run around (after bunnies and squirrels) and play with Roxy, just a be a bit more careful jumping off the sofa. That's fair, I AM 11, after all. Dr. Pedro thinks dogs should get to be dogs and not prohibited from doing what comes naturally, at least as much as possible. Mom and I are just glad it's not my back, because we know from you, Francesca Baby, and my dear sisty Demi at the Bridge that back problems are much worse and harder to heal. Well, Mom has a headache so I have promsied her a good snuggle on the sofa until she feels better.
    A bientot!
