Getting Ready to Plant More Roses

Posted by F&S

You may recall us telling you about all of the rose bushes that came from our home in East Hampton to be planted at our farm in Bedford.  Many roses have been planted, but there are still many more to go.

The lilac is just beginning to bloom.

Oh, I see some blooms further along.

Ah, yes! These lilac are so beautiful and quite fragrant. Quite interestingly, I read recently that lilac is a member of the olive family.

Francesca, maybe we should help out Wilmer by rototilling. I think I know how this thing works.

OK, Sharkey! Full steam ahead!

Yep - Wilmer will be happy for our help!

Now that the tilling is done, let's see what Wilmer is up to. This smells like rich compost.

So, Wilmer - I see you're top-dressing the new rose beds, getting them ready for planting. Sharkey and I helped by doing a little rototilling.

Sharkey, it's a good thing we helped out in the new rose borders. Just look how many roses there are to plant!

I wish we could help plant, but all of those rose thorns aren't very dog-friendly.

  • Greetings from beautiful Lebanon, Ohio!
I loooove to help my Dad work in the yard, just like F&S! My brother Brutus likes to lay in the grass and watch. Of course, when Dad starts any machinery, Brutus makes a bee-line to the house (the big chicken is afraid of noise).
Most of the time Dad "encourages" me to take a break and lay on the glider on the patio.
Brutus and I have it pretty good here at our forever home.
    Gotta go.
    Pugs and kisses!

  • Good Morning F & S

Mom has a small rose garden and each year she adds another plant. They really are pretty but I don't like the thorns they hurt.

I have to tell you all how silly T-Bone and Sophie look they got their summer buzz cuts yesterday - 2 dorks :) Thank the good Lord I don't have to get a buzz cut can you imagine a Frenchie shaved - UGLY!!!!

Mom is going to work late she has a doctors appointment so we slept in today. I could have stayed in bed all day the rain is coming and the sheets were so soft and comfy - maybe I'll head back for a few more zzzzz's :)

  • Hello Everyone and welcome to all the newbies - its so nice to see our Glue Squad grow!! This is Riley writing today, and I have a whole bunch of things to tell you. Firstly, I would love to be at Martha's farm planting roses - I could dig all the holes because that is my specialty - all the better if there is a reason to dig the holes! In honour of Cora Belle I surpassed myself with the naughtiness quotient yesterday. Let me tell you the story .... So Dad BBqd yesterday evening, pork chops. He did 3 butterfly chops and brought them in the house on a platter. Mom and Dad each had one, and the other one was left on the platter and put on the kitchen counter. It smelled wonderful, and nobody appeared to have it claimed, so while everyone was having supper I stretched up as high as I could and gently removed that pork chop from the counter. I was very quiet, no one heard a sound. In two minutes that chop was history (no bones in it) and it was in my belly. I then nonchalantly laid down by the dining room table and waited for my real supper. When Mom got up to feed us guys she looked for the chop to cut up and add to our dinner. It was gone. She asked Dad how many he made, he said 3. He thought he was losing his memory, that he had forgotten to get all of them off the BBQ! It took them a while to figure out what had happened, and then they couldn't believe I would do such a thing, and so quickly and quietly as well. My sisters would never surf the counters, but me, I'm a boy, it just how I am. Our breeder told Mom when she was going to get another puppy, you have two girls, now get a boy, they will want different things and you will have harmony amongst your dogs!!!! I do want different things, I want everything that they have, and then some. So, that was my tribute to Cora Belle.
Well gotta go, love to all, Beardie (or maybe Lab) bounces to all, Riley, Martha and Lucy girl.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Let me get this straight now. Zoe, you now live with two dorks. I have seen plenty of ducks, does, donkeys, but I can’t remember seeing any dorks. Must be a new breed of dog or cat. Maybe Maddox can shed some light on this. After all he is so smart. Meanwhile I’ll check my neighborhood and see if any live around here. Mommy and Daddy are going to leave me again this morning. Something about a dentist and teeth cleaning. I offered some of my dog bones; they seem to keep my teeth nice and white. Funny, they didn’t take any.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good morning ladies,
Wow, luv the shot of you two on the rototiller! Girls and their machines...
Do you tow like the smell of the compost? I do. I really do.
Hi to Brutus & Max. I sometimes travel to Columbus Ohio to visit a friend. Since we live west of you I can let you know what weather is heading in your direction.
Papa has an electric lawn mower, so it's not too loud but I have to stay inside when he mows. I think the mower should go around me & I've been told not so. Oh well, sunny & 75 today. Hooray!
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Thanks again you sweet girls for showing us how you love to help Wilmer and all of the farm crew working all over the farm! Those guys must be very proud of your help and you always look so happy to be involved in what ever you can do for them! Maybe you could get GK to help you, too! Please say Hi to him again and have another great day! How nice it has been to hear from so many of you Glue Squaders saying such nice comments about our great sweetheart, Cora-Belle! It's also great to hear from Brutus, Max, Betty, and Black Mama as new Glue Squad members! Will check back to hear from the rest of you later! We had an unusually hot day yesterday at 87 degrees! It really seemed like summer, but it will get back in the 70s today and rain on Sunday! Hope you all have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • What the heck, I posted before 7:30 this morning. It was very short I came inside for a break and checked the DW and it isn't on. I guess it is floating around somewhere in cyber space. Anyway, I am very busy today. Cement trucks are here. We are getting concrete poured. Karen is helping and I am supervising. If any of the workers turn into slackers I go stand by them. I think I look intimidating to them so they start working again. It is a tough job but I am up for the challenge. Hehehehehehehe.
I will read all the posts and come back on later after the cement sets up.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
This will be a sight to behold when these roses bloom. Thank goodness the men have you girls to supervise. Is it too hot for G.K., or is he being lounge man? I saw these dogs that looked a lot like Riley, Lucy and Martha on my walk yesterday, and they were shaved like you said the labs got it at your house Zoe. Mom and Dad said, look at those well behaved kids not pulling on their leash, Ruby, and I SAID,they are so hot they can hardly walk, let alone pull. Geez Mom and Dad!! Since I have black fur, I have to be out and about on walks when it is not more than about 55 or I die. Dad went fishing for a few days, to get me some Rainbow Trout. So you know what that means........Party time for Mom and me. Oh, Brutus and Max, how old are you? What colors are you? So, I better get out and protect since Dad is gone. Gotta go, have a GEM of a day.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Busy busy busy in the garden I see ladies. Hmmm...where is G.K. when all of this "supervising" needs to be done?

Welcome aboard Brutus & Max and Black Momma, welcome to the Glue Squad. Just in time to get started on Summer mischief.

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey, Wilmer, Black mama, Ruby Tuesday, Super Zoe, Missy Chow and all my glue squad buddies,
Wow- that is really interesting watching the soil preparation for planting at the farm! Sharkey, you are a brave girl to get that rototiller moving. I am afraid of the weed wacker sound myself. Francesca, you look stunning in picture #4, really beautiful today!
Riley, that pork chop story was just too funny!! And Kirby, who knew you were so funny talking about looking for the "dork" animal in your neighborhood! Zoe, of course, always has us in stitches with her humor. I am not shaved this spring but had a nasty knotted matt on my right side that needed extra brushing and care so it is now gone. Persian molting going on. Abby is having her picture taken for work today so Mom gave her a bath last night. Not sure why but she is excited for her photo op. I told her to just vogue, like that madonna song...
Welcome again to Brutus and Max from Ohio. Rebel, do you really like the compost smell??? Ruby must be busy patrolling the yard today, maybe looking at trout recipes too.
Well off to read my book on Leonardo Davinci.. wonder if Kitty is hunting today??
    Purrrrs and enjoy the sunshine!
James Byron Dean the persian boy cat

  • ..you Frenchies are helpers..we have a few old climbing rose bushes here at the farm/ranch..the deer nibble on them..heck they eat the whole thing...way to go Riley on the naughtiness!..Ruby, Lucinda made the famous warrior prince cookies for the Chiweenies, yes, the dumb things come outside and parade and around and try to chase me..good luck..heard something about a walk around the property later..I will lurk around and spy on them from the bushes and report back later what stupid things they do..Maddox bet you are a good crew boss...Dudley, whew.. it was hot here yesterday..thank goodness a marine layer is coming in..Rebel. watch out lawn mowers can be dangerous..we have a riding John Deere and I hate that thing..except when it is parked and I sleep on the seat..Kirby, good idea offering a dog treat to clean your peoples teeth..Zoe, you are funny..hello Brutus and Max..well, all you crazy glue squad pals I have to get outside and make sure all the critters are behaving and patrol the area...tough taking over Cora-Belles duties...who knows maybe I'll slowly move into the house..over and out...Black Mama p.s. Ivan and Ivanka are coming down the driveway for a visit..I better tell Lucinda to get the warrior prince cookies out for them, hope they chase the Chiweenies (wonder how long those things are staying?)

  • Greetings Frenchies! F+S, great to see you having fun in the outdoors. We have a lovely garden but it is considerably smaller. Can't wait until the roses bloom!

  • Oh Franny my dear your #4 photo of you is lovely!!! :-) mommie delia loves Lilacs, one of her very favorite flowers including Violets.
JD I hope you will be faithful to me, I'm worried you will entice Black Mamma into your heart and forget about me...OK I'll share you with BM.
Brutus & Max Welcome to this fun loving group!

Mommie delia has to go back to the doctor to see why her dizziness has gotten worse after the MRI...

OK enough for now...wishing you all a purrrfectly wonderful day! ;-)

Kitty =^. .^= and mommie delia

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey and GK,
Many thanks for hosting me and opening your entire world to me during my visit to the farm the other day. I have never felt so honored like I did when you came out to receive me at the car park, allowing a photo session with me and crowning it all by hooking me up with all your farm friends. You have amazing stuff going on down there and your home is simply breathtaking!
    Keep up the good work.
    Yours BFF,
    Beatrice
