We Found a New Bird in The Neighborhood!

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies were driving around the farm on our favorite Kawasaki the other day, when something nice and bright caught our eye.  On closer examination, we were quite surprised with what we found.

Sharkey, do you see that beautiful little bird in the bush over there?

Why, it's such a remarkable color! I've never seen a bird so bright flying around here.

Francesca, there's something vaguely familiar about this bird.

You have seen many just like this one.

It's one of our red factor canaries from the canary cage! How did it get out here and how are we going to get it back inside?

Oh look! There's the housekeeper, Maria, drawing awfully close. Will the canary allow itself to be caught?

I guess so! Hurray, Maria!

When Maria counted the canaries last week, she noticed there was one missing.

Apparently, in an attempt to wreak havoc on the canaries, one of the cats made a hole in the cage wire just big enough for this little fellow to squeeze through.

The door to the outside was ajar for the cats to come and go and the little bird flew right out.

He managed to stay alive outdoors for an entire week. I bet he was eating at the bird feeders with all the wild birds.

That must have been some adventure, but this little canary looks happy and relieved to be back home with all of his friends.

  • Hello Girls, G.K., & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
I am up very late, in Colorado it is still Sunday, April 21st and it is 10:28. So.........I am not too late to START the celebration for our fearless leader, Maddox for his 6th BIRTHDAY. Maddox I am very sorry I didn't wish you a Happy almost birthday on Friday, but I, like so many others was thinking of those BAD GUYS in Boston and the Marathon. But now I have been partying like there is no tomorrow, to celebrate your birthday. I know G.K. is probably going to sing to his dear old handsome Dad, but me, Ruby, a very good party planner is going to sing to you before I go to bed. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to the one and only Professor Maddox, Happy Birthday to you....and many more. Did you hear me, did you, did you? Thanks for thinking up the Glue Squad's name, and being the glue that binds us together. I love you clear up to God. Now, I am off to bed and will comment on the pretty birdie in the morning. Sweet dreams all.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • What a canary conundrum! :)

Poor little fella flew the coop.

Hmmm, I wonder what kitty created the escape route?

Don your investigator caps and find out which fur ball was responsible! :)

I am too surprised he was able to survive outside. It isn't exactly super warm weather wise. He must be a resourceful fine feathered friend.

    Glad all turned out well!

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
I can't believe my eyes, that this little house canary survived a week outside. Mom says that when she was growing up her Grandma raised German Roller Canaries and that changes in temperature were dangerous for the little fellows. I think Mama Martha needs to have a big time out for the cat that caused the incident and then she needs to put up some sort of edging for the bottom 5 inches of the cage, in case the cat comes in again and is tempted. Then the birdies are safe and no cat time outs. I am just glad that all ended well and no birdies gone forever. And again HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADDOX, yesterday. Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Good morning everyone,
That poor canary. Outside all week long, having to find food and water and a place to sleep. I know, I know that lots of birds do that every day but this was a house bird. I was so glad that the housekeeper was able to catch it. I can't imagine chasing a little bird all around over 150 acre property. Well, all is well that ends well.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. Missy Chow, I really enjoyed the card. Very cute. Ruby and Lynn, thank you for the card (another exceptional card Lynn) I shared the sock monkey toys with Karen. She loves sock monkeys. Yes, I was 6 years old yesterday. My biggest wish iwas and is to hear that Cora-Belle is alright. We have not heard from her.
So much happened over the weekend, bad things and good things. I think I can sum it up by saying BOSTON STRONG,,,,,,,,
    Love to everyone,
    Maddox

  • Thank you to Maria for managing to catch the remarkably resourceful red factor canary! OK, which cat made the hole in the canary cage wire? Put your paw up!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well look who is back; good ole Kirby that’s who. We left the mountains a day early to avoid the storms that were coming. For some reason Daddy doesn’t like to pull the trailer when it is storming. He says that it is hard enough stopping on a dry road let alone a very wet, water logged, one. I guess stopping 20,000 pounds going downhill on a wet road can be rather tricky; never tried it myself. What did I miss other than Maddox’s Birthday? Happy Birthday Maddox; have many more. I had a really good time but I didn’t get in as many long walks as I wanted to. Daddy said that I was misbehaving and would bring me back to the RV. I guess I’m a little hard headed in that department and will never learn what is good for me. Mommy got the cat out of the jail and boy was he really glad to see her. He has been staying close to home these last few days.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! You two beautiful girls sure did a great job finding that missing canary outside!!! How great that Maria was able to catch the canary and put him back in his cage in Martha's home! How interesting that one of Martha's kitties made a hole in the cage and the canary escaped through their door to the outside! Glad it could eat at the bird feeders outside! You two must have been very happy and so am I! Say Hi to Gk and have a great day! We are getting some sunshine most of this week and hope you do, also! Wonderful Maddox. sure hope you had a great birthday yesterday and now that you are 6, you are closer to my age! Have fun buddy! How fun to hear from more of you today and love your comments, Ruby, Gail, Maddox, Malcolm, and Kirby! Hope to hear from the rest of you soon, especially Cora-Belle! Have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Happy belated birthday, Maddox! I hope it was an awesome one.
My Mom wants to know if you or any of your relatives are going to be at the Chow National Specialty next week-- she is going to be there with her booth and is hoping to meet up with any friends or friends of friends.
Today is ALMOST warm, and Mom decided it was warm enough that I could chase the water monster around on our in-the-sun-warm upstairs porch. It kinda smells up there, and the water monster, besides being good for chasing around, does help keep it from being too stinky. Roxy does not know how to properly chase the water monster, but I will teach her how.
    A bientot!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADDOX,from you little buddy Rebel. Hope you had some sunny deck time yesterday.
    Now for my ladies,
That is one brave little canary. He sure likes Mrs Acuna. Those kitties are tricky, aren't they!
I wonder what stories that canary is telling to his buddies in the cage....
Well, everybody, I survived my 2 nights at the kennels. I had a really noisy neighbor below me, I was so glad to see Papa & Mimi yesterday. Papa says that Mimi kept the economy going this weekend. I must say that there were a lot of shopping bags.
    Til tomorrow.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

    ==================================
I must make this quick because I have no clue how long I can stay connected to the WFi, my other computer is all jacked up after updating. :-(
I sent a Birthday wish to Maddox last night on this iPad and to my horror just now discovered it never sent...arghhhhh! So dear Maddox a Belated wish for you...much joy in your life with your mommie Karen and Heath for a long doggie life .
Now for Sharkey & Franchesca about that poor little canary. To think that it survived the cold evening is a miracle as canaries are so sensitive to drafts, hot and cold. I'm happy it was found. When I lived in San Francisco I found my first Parakeet and Canary, the parakeet was with me for 15 years. I have had birds get lose and got them back when I put the cage outside with a buddy and they would come back. :-)
Kitty just shamed me with another bird kill, a Robin, this makes me so sad. I also found what all that coyote noise was the other night, they attacked a deer in our yard and we have blood, skin and hair all over the yard, but no deer. OK so much for all the good news.
Hope everyone's day is pleasant! I'm making an attempt :-)

    Delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • HURRAY for Maria!

Although Jakey would have liked to get a closer view and taste of the little bird I'm sorry to say.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    Molly

  • That little birdie is something else being able to live outdoors alone for a week after living in the comforts of Martha's home for so long. Now you three must don your PSI: Paw Scene Investigation gear and find out which of your cat cohorts needs to be sent up the river.

Happy Belated 6th Birthday Maddox!!! I hope you had a fantastic day and like you hope to hear from our dear pal Cora-Belle. Welcome back Kirby Bear. Sounds like you were keeping Mommy and Daddy busy on your trip to the mountains. Thanks for the heads up on Maddox's Birthday Ruby Gem, you got the party started right!

  • Hello Sharkey, Francesca, Birthday boy Maddox, rebel, missy chow, Ruby Tuesday and my glue squad buddies-
I am so glad Maria was able to capture the little canary and return him to his cage. Now he can tell everyone about his adventures outside.
Maddox, dear leader, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Sorry this is a day late but we thought about you yesterday, you handsome boy. Abby sends you triple barks and me lots of purrrrrrs.
Mom ran in a local running race on Saturday in the sunshine. Our hearts remain with the people of Boston. BOSTON STRONG!!!!
Glue Squad, hugs to all of you!!! Hope you get outside in the sunshine.
Purrrs- James Dean the persian boy.

  • Dear Maddox,
Happy belated birthday from your friends, Francesca and Sharkey.

GK also sends his best wishes to his dad!

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh you guys. You are such good friends. Thank you so much for all the Birthday Wishes. I truly appreciate the close knit family we have become.
Baby Favor, no Chow Nationals this year. Sorry that Karen will miss your mom. But she will be doing something even better than going to the Nationals. She will be taking Wu-Tang and Sequoia to visit with Martha at the farm that weekend. Both of the girls are very active, especially Sequouia. She is 11 months old and all puppy. I call her the heathen. Hehehehehe. Wu-Tang is six months older than Sequoia so she is a little more mature but not by much. They are both very inquisitive. But, that is how we all are when we are young. Hey, someone said that they think James, Lucinda and Cora-Belle went to visit someone so she must be alright. That makes me feel better. Well, I am going to go find some of my birthday biscuits that I hid. I hid them so good that now I can't find them. Think Maddox, think.
Again, I want to give a big THANK YOU to everyone that wished me a Happy Birthday. Franny, Sharkey and my pride and joy son, GK, thank you as well. My heart is smiling. Now I am thinking again, can a heart smile? Yes, definitely yes. Hehehehehe
Big hugs and kisses to everyone
    Maddox

  • Hello Everyone - we have been absent for a while, Mom had a few days off and it was a very very busy few days. Firstly, we must wish Maddox a very happy day - please eat pizza and have cake for us, we just love birthdays and wish we could be there to celebrate with you. However, we'll just party amongst ourselves!
We have some amazing news - we have finally sold our house and we are moving!!!!! Mom and Dad are looking at houses like crazy, and we will hopefully have a new and improved house to live in. Lots of walks in the park, lots of doggy company. Lucy will need to learn that not everything needs to be barked at non stop! Martha was a city dog, so she's just very interested in everyone and Me, I'm just a very inquisitive kind of guy, I let the two girls investigate anything scary or new, and then when they have cleared it I'll go check it out. I feel bad for the little birdy in today's blog, glad to hear he got rescued. Last week a baby grackle fell down our chimney and ended up in our woodstove pipe. We heard him scrabbling and cheeping, Dad had to dismantle the pipe to get him out. He seemed OK, he flew away immediately once he was let free, the cats were mighty interested for sure. Ah well, all's well that ends well. Well not much else new, weather seems to be getting better, lots of deck time in the sunshine - I've got a vet appointment this week, is that scary?? Mom says no, just heartworm testing, Martha and Lucy will go as well. We are an expensive bunch!
Well, I'll keep you updated on the house hunt, Mom wants hardwood floors, but we can't get any traction on that type of flooring, we like carpets! Gotta go now, Maddox I hope you had a wonderful day, some day I hope to be as smart as you!
Love and beardie bounces, Riley, Martha and Lululemon.

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad Buddies - Running a little behind schedule today therefore the late post. I'm sure that little canary is catching up on rest and telling stories as to what happens out on the farm. Thank goodness it was found safe & sound. Good job, girls. Now what kitty did it, 'fess up! Happy Birthday,Maddox, sounds like you had a terrific birthday, did you find the biscuits? Sure hope Karen takes pictures of Wu-Tang and Sequoia for everybody to see. Ruby, I tried my landscaping over the weekend, but I didn't get too far - Dad was working instead and he really didn't want me supervising either :( , what's up with that!! Kirby, glad you are home and that Dad didn't have to drive in a storm. Rebel, did Mimi bring home a surprise for you? Hope Zoe is doing okay with S/N. Hi to all my friends & buddies.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Dearest Sharkey,

I just found out that you are my half-aunt. My mom (your half sister) is Cashmere. I see that you've landed on your feet, living the life of fun and relaxation. I'm working as an assistant for an interior decorator who lives in a sleepy little town near Toronto. I miss my show dog days when I travelled in style, but I guess we all have to settle down at some point. We should have a frenchie reunion at some point. Boy, that would be cute!

  • Hooray! Back home again! I only wish these baby birdies could have a better home...at least a tree!
I know that momma wanted them to grow up here...but...no trees?
