Planting New Arborvitae Trees

Posted by F&S

When Hurricane Sandy blew through last October, she took down about 150 stately trees on the farm.  So much cleanup has been going on and now that spring is here, some new trees are being planted.  You can read all about it on Martha's blog today.  You know how much we Frenchies love to be involved with everything that goes on at the farm.

Sharkey, let's go to the greenhouse and see what all the commotion is about.

Francesca, I do believe there is a tree-planting project taking place.

Do you remember the five 'Degroot's Spire arborvitae that Martha bought recently? She wants to cover up the sawed off white pines that came down in Hurricane Sandy.

Chhiring, we'll be happy to help you pick up a tree with this Hi-Lo.

Sharkey, don't you just love handling heavy machinery?

OK, Chhiring, you can lower the tree right here in this spot.

Chhewang, I think it needs to go a little in that direction. Ah, yes - perfect!

Pete, it's always great to see you. These trees look quite good in this spot. Franny and I will come back later to check on things.

Sharkey, that was a really nice nap. Let's go back to the greenhouse and check the progress.

You're right, Franny. I hardly recognize this area.

Martha had a very good idea to plant these trees here. Now, let's supervise to make sure they get plenty of water.

  • Ooh I too love the tree arrangement. Is that ivy creeping up the trees?

That was quite a job planting trees. Maybe Paul Bunyan could have lent a helping hand! :)

Though, Martha has an awesome team of helpers, that is for sure!

    Happy Friday to all..

  • You girls are something else. I think Martha has an amazing grounds crew and that includes the two of you. I don't know what in the heck GK does around the farm but I would hope he is helping you also. I also think that is such a good thing that Martha does. When she loses trees because of bad storms and high winds she doesn't just let the space blank. She replants and it is a constant thing but she does it. I applaud her for that.
Well Glue Squad, what does everyone have planned for the weekend? Karen is starting to rebuild the kennel so there is a lot of work to be done. Maybe she could borrow you girls to supervise the project. I bet if we had a big Glue Squad Kennel Raising Party we could have it done in no time. Lots of birds flying around for little Rebel to watch. James Dean, there are some felines in the area that you might be interested in. Zoe, Abby, Dudley, Baby Favor and Kitty could help with the smaller jobs and Molly, Jake, Martha, Lucy, Riley and Missy Chow could do the mid size jobs and Kirby, Ruby, myself and Molly and Jake could handle the bigger jobs. Cora-Belle could bark at any slackers. Heck, maybe Karen could fall out of the recliner again for entertainment value. Hehehehehehe
    Have a great weekend
    Love ya,
    Maddox the Maniac

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad Buddies-The new trees look great and both of you are always busy working with or supervising the crew. I'm sure they really appreciate your company & opinions. Let's hope we don't have another bad storm for a very long, long time. Maddox, I think you're onto something, Glue Squad Kennel Raising Party, we could all lend a paw or two, it will be done in little time. Well, nothing much happening for the weekend for me. It's suppose to be a real nice weekend so that means alot of outside time for me. Mom & Dad "may ask" for my landscaping ideas, but I doubt it, sometimes they don't like my suggestions..;) Ruby, it takes time when we go for our walks, I still get excited and Dad has to reel me back in. Hi to all my friends, got to run. Have a nice weekend everyone.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
This tree planting expedition looks mighty heavy duty, but I bet with the guys help Ruby's Landscape Design Company could have assisted you girls too. The CEO has not provided money yet for travel expenses, so it is good you girls have a handle on it. It looks so gorgeous all completed. It is amazing watching the progress on your farm. Maddox, I think it is a great idea for the Kennel Raising Party, to have the Glue Squad help. I decided so I don't get myself into any more trouble when I go on walks with anyone on roller blades, I am going to wear a sign that says, Member of the World Famous Glue Squad, defense team on high alert. What do you guys think of that one? Mom says no signs, Ruby you just have to calm down. O.k, o.k., I will practice my yoga before we go. Another week without my heroine, Cora Belle. I barked last night at a bunny for you Cora Belle. Hope to hear from all my buddies soon. Love ya all and have a GEM of a weekend.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Good morning ladies!
Another task accepted and completed. Good supervising to be sure! I would love those trees. Can you imagine the great game of hide n seek we could play? Kitty could really climb & hide inside a tree! We'd never find her...
Maddox, I think that G.K. is sitting somewhere looking like the regal guard. Just like at the gate of a chinese castle.
I would drive for hours for a Glue Squad Kennel Raising Party! Mimi says she would make pitchers of Lemon Drops for the ladies. She also said we all may need our own recliners. What's she talking about?
Anyway, I have company this weekend. An old friend of the folks & her son. He is running in the Illinois Marathon tomorrow. Should be a great time.
Oh, some sad news. My neighbor, Erroll is now at the Rainbow Bridge, too. I will miss my quiet giant. He was a really nice guy.
    Have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel
