Enlarging the Pumpkin Patch

Posted by F&S

It's always fun and interesting to witness the changes that take place on the farm.  We Frenchies heard something about renting the sod cutter again, so we decided to find out what was going on.  We were not disappointed!

Say there, Phurba - It seems like you're digging a new garden.

Wasn't this the pumpkin patch last season? It looks like a lot of hardneck garlic is growing right now. Hardneck is a real favorite among garlic lovers because of its great flavor and because it sends up an edible stalk called a scape.

Sharkey, it looks like they used a sod cutter to remove the grass to make the bed larger.

I wonder where all this rolled up sod will go?

You may recall that last spring, when they made the original pumpkin patch and also the corn patch, the cut up sod was laid out in the free-range chicken yard. Maybe that's where its headed - a re-carpeting, if you will.

So Phurba, now that the grass is gone, I suppose the next step will be to cover this section with compost and then rototill it in.

I can't wait to see what Ryan has planned for this pumpkin patch expansion. There are so many unusual varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and squash.

Do you remember how many great ones Ryan grew last year? Perhaps he'll even grow a GIANT!

I'll leave you to your work, Phurba. I cannot wait to see this garden produces next October!

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
Franny, Sharkey, G.K.,how does your garden grow? Very well I must say. To get a sneak peek of what your pumpkin patch brings is very fun---quite a treat for the new girl who hasn't seen it before. We can't grow pumpkins I hear because we don't have enough sun. And the raccoons just take a bite out of each one. You girls and Phurba are very hard at work these days. Will be exciting in the summer to see the progress.

Now on to that whatever in your garage Zoe. OMG!!!! I don't want you to go anywhere near there. Like I said before, could it be lions, tigers or bears, oh my. I think Sherlock James Dean has a real handle on what it could be and how to see. Did you all catch how I am the new household landscape designer? Well, yesterday I almost got fired. Over did things and the holes for the natural lounge chairs were too big. Too much dirt on the sidewalk. My crew didn't leave things very clean. The weekend, new challenges and more redesign. Cora Belle you would have been proud. Dudley, I am so sorry you are getting a lot of rain and can't go on your walks. Soon though it will be nice and back to walks. Missy, any dirt lately? Hehehehehe Abbey, I hope Mom does well in her run this weekend. Riley, you will have to look at some of my landscape designs. Maybe you can adapt them in Canada. Baby Favor are your folks still in New Orleans? We heard there was a Jazz Festival. Maybe you will get beads. Maddox, you better help Sherlock James Dean figure out Zoe's critter problem in the garage. SHE MUST BE KEPT SAFE FROM DANGER!!! Well all, I must go and I hope you all have a GEM of a weekend.
    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • Good morning ladies!
Wow, a new garden. That's exciting, do you need Ruby to come & dig holes for you?
The grass is green here, forsythia & magnolia are in bloom. Spring has sprung!
I had a little visit with Mr & Mrs Mallard again this morning. They are looking for a place to build a nest. Papa had a meeting with a mouse before breakfast. He thought it was a goner, but it wiggled when he opened the trap. Papa said a word I have never heard him say before, he said "ain't" as is "it ain't dead yet". Guess he was surprised & forgot that ain't isn't a word. Mimi laughed.
Quiet weekend for me. The Masters is on t.v. Maybe a round of golf on Sunday for the folks.
    Have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Francesca and Sharkey I need that sod!!!! Our weather is ruining everything! I can't even talk about it, it makes me so sad....snow tonight with cold...enough already! Oh Spring where are YOUUUUU???

Yesterday Kitty was sleeping in her tent outside after looking for HIM, she then came in and slept in her Igloo...while there, HE came looked in the glass door and then jumped in her tent, sleeping there for a couple of hours, she never saw him. What nerve of that cat to come and platz himself here! ;-)
James Dean, Kitty still loves you, she says you are Purrfectly beautiful and wished that it was you sleeping in her tent :-)

Ruby girl, you and your mommie looked beautiful in the photo...thanks for sharing!

OK have to go and check Facebook, wish I didn't have that account, it's just to much with negativity...so sad!

    Have a Great Day everyone, fur-friends or none-fur ;-)

    Hugs,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You sweet, beautiful girls sure did have fun checking out that great pumpkin patch and seeing Ryan and Phurba working on the larger patch sure was great! You looked so cute sitting on that sod cutter with the grass they removed! How fun to see those beautiful pumpkins from last year and I can't wait to see them this year, also! Hope you gals have a great weekend and say Hi to GK for me!!! Gosh Gail, sure hope you don't get any snow today! We are getting wind, rain, and sunshine on almost everyday! Dear, wonderful Ruby, you did another fabulous comment today and your comments about our Glue Squad are fabulous, also! Loved seeing your photos on my Mom's email and you look so cute! Sure hope to hear from the rest of you buddies and will check back later! Hope you all have a great weekend! We got a bit of sun yesterday and got to go for an hour walk again! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Afternoon Girls & Glue Squad, Another busy day for both of you and working with the crew in the pumpkin patch, we're just beginning to enjoy spring and now thinking of pumpkins, which means fall season, then winter. Oh no!!! We just finished that snowy season. Ruby, I hope you don't get fired from your job, it's fun to dig, Dad finds a hole from time and time, then has to fill it in; then he turns around and asks me what am I doing? Well, it's a hole, already!!! :-) So glad your Mom is feeling much better, love the new collar and yoga studio, great idea..I'm in....Zoe, to answer your question, I played alittle to rough with Mom last Sunday, we tangled and she fell on the grass in my area, no injuries, but a little stiffness in the neck for a couple of days. She's much better now, phew...I wouldn't want any additional time outs. Hope everyone is doing well today. Our weather has changed to rain and chilly temps todays but the rain will help the flowers bloom and grass turn green. Have a nice weekend.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Howdy F & S and all my Glue Squad Buddies!!!

Happy Friday! Mom had to leave early today she is really busy at work so I'm just getting computer time now.

F & S there is so much going on at the farm I can't wait to see when everything starts to bloom!! I bet the critters are all starting to run around - catch anything good lately?

We had a nasty rain storm here today but like they say April showers bring May flowers :) I'm hoping we have a nice weekend I need a little sun and my chase lounge. I'm sure mom will be cleaning out the garage looking for the critter. She'll freak out if she finds something. I'll hear her screaming from out on the deck - she better get a shot gun :)

Well I hope everyone has a nice weekend !!!

    Zoe

  • Thanks for your post, Francesca and Sharkey! I'm looking forward to seeing how it produces too. Make sure you fill us in when the time comes.

  • Hello everyone,
Would you believe that I was sooooooo busy that I forgot to post on Friday. My assistant didnt remind me however, I got an email from a Glue Squad member asking where I was. I had to plan a birthday party for Rhyder. He is a relative. He was 4 on Friday so we had a cupcake birthday cake for him. It was neat. It was all cupcakes but they put icing all around the top sp it looks like a cake. It was neat. And Karen is st a dog show with Sequoia. She is a heathen. Well, not really. She just likes to run and play in the ring. She needs ring smarts. It will come to her and when it does she will be a star.
Masters this weekend, NASCAR race, dog show, birthday party, geez no wonder I need a nap. Hehehehehehe
    Love to all,
    Maddox
