Where Did The Honeybees Go?

Posted by F&S

Walking past the car port the other day, we were quite surprised to see that the beehives were in there.  Beehives are supposed to be outdoors near flowers.  After investigating, we were quite concerned by what we found.

Sharkey, why do you think the bee hives are sitting in the car port and not out in the field where they are supposed to be?

Franny, listen carefully - do you hear any buzzing?

This is all very mysterious and I have to say that I am quite concerned. Honeybees have so many problems lately.

Bees have been dying from parasitic mites and there's also something called colony collapse disorder, where they just abandon the hive.

Sharkey, I don't hear anything coming from any of these hives.

I'll be brave and push off the lid.

You're right, Franny, no bees in here.

And no bees in here, either. I guess the hives are here so that they can be cleaned up and made ready for new colonies of bees. What a darn shame. I wonder why they left and where they went?

  • Good Morning F & S

Maybe they got tired of all this snow and flew South!! It's snowing here this morning - ENOUGH already :(

Mom planted her lettuce Saturday and made sure she covered them with plastic tunnels that run down each row. And to think Easter is Sunday - I hope the Easter bunny has a pair of snow shoes.

We've all been in a funk since our Precious went to Rainbow Ridge. I even had Nicole for a sleepover on Saturday and she was missing Precious too. I guess in time things will get better.

Well I can't chat long Mom has to venture out in this weather and get to work.

  • Good morning everyone,
I have not posted for a few days. Our computer wasn't working as they were doing something with the cable. I tried to call Karen at the dog show but no answer on her cell phone. I found out last night when she came home that she forgot to take her charger for her cell phone. So I apologize, especially to Zoe and Ruby. Zoe, I am so sad for you and your family over the loss of Precious. She is being taken care of at the Rainbow Bridge. You can bet on that. And sweet Ruby, Happy Belated birthday. I bet you had a blast and I can only imagine that lots of pictures were taken.
As for the rest of you Glue Squad maniacs, I read all the comments I missed so I am up to date. Kirby, you could have been called Oreck, Hoover or even Electrolux. Kirby is a kool name. Abby and James Dean, March madness is really something this year, I bet you two are really excited. Dudley, be careful on windy days. We don't want you blowing into outer space. Kittie, are you getting used to your new bell? Martha, Riley and Lucy I bet you are looking forward to gardening with your mom. If you want to have some stink bugs to play with, I am sure a lot of us would be able to send some to you. Right Francesca and Sharkey. Hehehehehehe Cora-Belle, how are you this fine morning, barking up a storm? Missy Chow, I am proud of you. I haven't heard any misbehaving stories lately. Molly and Jake and Baby Favor, how are all of you doing? We are getting another snow storm today. Rebel, my little buddy, please tell your mamma that It was very nice of her to send Karen the book that she did. When she catches up with things here at home she will read it.
Well, I am going for some deck time before it is full of snow.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
I have never seen a bee hive. They look neat, but I am sorry there aren't any bees. I'm with Zoe, they headed south to keep warm.

Zoe, it has to be so hard without Precious, but just keep up on that "cc" time as much as possible. I am really glad you are back Maddox. I was thinking that you were out in an igloo or snowdrift and worried about you. Glad things are getting back to normal at home, How did everyone do at the dog shows? I hope all my other buddies are keeping warm. We had a foot of snow (a special order I am sure for my birthday). I am going to rest this morning. A bit unusual, but I ate quite a bit over the parties. Had that burger Friday and then my favorite is the Banana Bread. Dad said I have a "muffin top" whatever that is. Thank you ALL for the birthday wishes. I can't believe I am 2 and in my forever home. It is happy times. Have a GEM of a day and can hardly wait to hear of your weekend adventures all.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Frenchie Girls I have noticed for years that the bees have gotten to be less...of course the mites are a big problem and I can't help but think of the bees that were imported that started killing off our good bees...when will humans stop messing with nature? it never works :-(
Here is an interesting article about the bees and where they have gone to

Maddox hope all is well and it's good to see you back...yes, Kitty sounds like Santa every time she shakes her head...but at least I can hear her outside. in the snooooow (again!)
Hubby is off on his golfing trip in Tennessee and the weather is cold there as well.
Zoe it's good you had company and the pain will pass, hang in there.

Everyone have a great day and stay safe. :-)

  • Good snowy morning ladies,
I hope the bees didn't go to Orlando! It was soooo windy there that they would have been blown farther away! I trust you'll keep us up to date on the bee news.
Whew, shoveling is done. I wasn't any help to say the least. I did my things and headed right back to my basket in front of the fireplace.
Maddox, Mimi says to tell Karen that the book is perfect for bathroom breaks. I have seen the humans reading while on the "throne" LOL...
I'll check in later to see what everybody has posted. Mimi has a snow day today and the computer will be online all day.

  • Hello Everyone, hope everyone had the best weekend they could! It was not too bad up here, still kinda cold, but at least we got some sunshine. We were out in the garden this weekend, Mom was cleaning up winter debris and was going to burn it in the "burn barrel" which is at the back of our property. She nearly burned the shed down!!!!! She lit the burn barrel and it was going well, lots of newspapers and some stuff that had been put in late last autumn. She went to the greenhouse to get another pile of stuff to burn and when she turned around all the dead grass around the barrel had gone on fire and it was burning a patch up the field towards the shed! OMG we were barking up a storm, Mom was putting out the fire and it was not a good scene. Finally she got it all smothered and everything was OK, but it was a bit scary for us. Moral of the story, always watch your fire! She won't be burning by herself anymore. Riley has dug many holes, Mom was filling them in, he just goes and finds a new spot. Mom told him that he should fill the ones he had already dug in, just don't dig any new ones. That boy has a hearing impairment I think, he never seems to listen! Well that's all for today, everyone be good as you can, Love Martha, Lucy (writing) and Riley boy (d dog).

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You two sweet girls look so cute and seem very concerned trying to find the bees in those beehives! Where the heck are they?! Martha sure needs them to help grow so many things at the farm and leave lots of honey for her use in the kitchen, etc.! Sure hope you find them! I've seen some in our area and the weather has been nice these last few days but is supposed to rain again in the middle of this week! Mom read on the weather report that you will have snow today-hope it stops real soon! Say Hi to GK and hope you have a great day!!! Zoe, sure hope the snow goes away where you are, too! Sure hope your family is OK after loosing sweet Precious who is being cared for by Basil and others! So great to hear from you today handsome Maddox! All of your comments are perfect and hope your snow goes away, also! Sure want to hear from the rest of you sweethearts today! Happy spring to all of you! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Sharkey,Francesca, maddox, Dudley and my glue squad friends,
Sharkey, you certainly were brave to look into that hive girlfriend. What if there were bees sleeping in there?? You would need some little red running shoes to zoom out of there! Francesca, I am sure there will be some bees buzzing around after it gets warmer. Spring is coming, rebirth, renewal. We are all ready for some warm, sunny weather.
Today is my dear friend Abby's birthday!!! She is keeping a low profile but we will be celebrating later tonight and tomorrow too!!! She is eleven years old, two years this month in our home. Mom is taking her to work later for lots of attention and TLC!!!
Keep safe, and think of Spring!
Purrrs from March Madness loving James Dean

  • Aw, what happened to all the 'buzz buzz'?

Isn't it too cold for them to fly away?

Or did something more sinister happen (cue sinister sounding music)

Glad to see F&S Private Eyes are on the case!

    Keep us updated!

    Happy Monday to everyone!

  • Bees have a better chance of making it through the winter if they have several gallons of honey left in their hives. Bees cannot fight off diseases unless they have the nutrients found in honey.

  • ABBY, ABBY, ABBY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ABBY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU......and many more. Could you hear me girlfriend???? I was singing that just for you. I hope you get lots of goodies and treats and walks at the duck park.

Sorry I am late wishing, had to get off earlier and take care of Mom and her "pain in the neck." I love you girlfriend. #11 is really biggggg. I know Cora Belle will bark and be naughty all day for you.

HAVE A GEM OF A BIRTHDAY.

    Love and licks,
    Ruby

  • And we are back!!!!
We have been terribly remiss - we did not wish Abby a Happy 11th birthday earlier on.
Please have a very very happy day, hope everything is just perfect for your day, you get lots of treats and that 11 is a great year for you.
Martha (writing), Lucy and Riley boy.

  • Ladies this is a very serious matter. The bees are very important for Mother Nature. I hope this weekend was peaceful for everyone.

  • So late in the day.........
HAPPY 11th BIRTHDAY, ABBY! Sure hope your day is going swell.
Little chihuahua kisses coming your way!
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • I'm back with yet another apology. I was apologizing today to some of our Glue Squad buddies for not being able to post about things that happened last week. I was so focused on making sure I commented about those things that I completely forgot about things happening today. James Dean, thank you very much for mentioning Abby's birthday. I am an idiot. Abby, I am very glad you are a member of the Glue Squad and I sure do want to wish you a Happy Birthday. Eleven years old today. Wow. I hope they have a big party for you tonight because you deserve it. Love you Abby
