The Horses Are Shedding

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey was feeling quite lazy yesterday, so I decided to go for a little jaunt.  Strolling past the stable, I noticed Betsy doing something to Rinze's legs.  Of course, I had to investigate.

Hey there, Betsy! It looks like you're massaging Rinze's back legs. I could use a little massage, too!

But I see an awful lot of horse hair on the stable floor.

I get it! Rinze is shedding now that winter is coming to a close.

Horses grow a lot of extra hair to keep warm during the cold months.

And you're just helping to free all the hair that's already come loose.

All this talk about hair and shedding has got me thinking, Betsy.

I'll just roll around on the rough stable floor.

If any of my hair sheds off, you can just sweep it up along with Rinze's. That means less work up at the house! Aren't I practical?

  • You are adorable, Francesca! Thanks for sharing about your trip to the horse stables.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I’ll bet that the horses don’t shed as much as I do. Two times a year the inner fur on me comes out. When I get brushed, Mommy could make another dog out of the fur. She is just glad that it doesn’t come out all at one time. That would leave a big mess to clean up. Instead, I leave little dabs around the house for weeks. I always leave something so that she will remember me. It’s weekend time again. Only a few more and then I will be heading into the mountains again. Love those long walks with my Daddy. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Francesca & Glue Squad Buddies,
It makes me so nervous seeing you so close to the horses. Just one kick and whamo, but then I know Betsey knows what she is doing and keeps you safe. I never thought about it, but horses need to shed too. Good job getting them all clean and happy. And you Franny, how very thoughtful to get the fur off outside. It is almost St. Patrick's Day and I hear a yummy meal is in store, and guess what else---a Ruby party!!!! Have a gem of a day all and Happy St. Patrick's Day to all my BUDDIES.
    Love you all,
    Ruby

  • Oh Frannie, you are just too much! You're so thoughtful, but I bet you don't lose nearly as much as the kitties & G.K.!
I'm with you on the rubdowns. Just can't get enough. I've never rolled on the concrete though. I'm more of a carpet & grass guy.
It's Friday and I hear the grandchildren are coming for a Saturday sleepover and we're having a big family dinner on Sunday. I'll be watching the floor under the dining room table! I heard tell there will be cookie baking, too. Oh, boy!
    Have a great weekend everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Aw, Frannie I just love when you scratch your back on various things! :) You certainly are inventive.

Hey, is that a knot of sorts in Rinze's tail?

What's up with loafin' Sharkey! :) We all deserve some lazy time that is for sure!

    Happy weekend to all!

  • Frannie - you are so practical!! What a joy you must be to Martha at her farm, alwauys trying to find a practical solution to everything!

I was a bit worried aboutyou standing so close to such a large horse. It shows you must be around them often.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, I get to see one of my human's daughters, so I guess that would make her my step sister this weekend! Yippeee I love to drool on her.

  • Hello all,
Another week shot. Where does the time go. The horses should have our coats, right Kirby? Betsy would be pulling fur out for a long long time. Hehehehehe
Well, Sequoia was like a wild woman in the ring today. She was like the energizer bunny but bigger. She wanted to go like a speed demon in the ring. But Karen wasn't disappointed. She said as long as Sequoia was happy, that is all that matters. I don't care. All I know is it is a biscuit festival here this weekend. Hehehehehehehe
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Thank you to JAMES BYRON O'DEAN for the wonderful, wonderful poem. Mom is putting it in my Daily Wag scrapbook. You are one smart kitty cat. Have a GEM of a St. Patrick's Day.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • ..like I said before, it would not work out, me, being a heeler standing next to a horses leg..my herding instinct would kick in and I would be nipping...I know glue squaders, not the polite thing to do...but I have told you,I am naughty..James is off getting mochas and maple bars for us..time for spring cleaning here at the farm/ranch..time to put up new nesting and resting sites for the feral kitties (people dump cats at the end of our road..think they are in the middle of no-where.. these kitties are not forsaken..Lucinda helps them)and I am supervising..Lucinda has me on a rope tied to the tractor so I don't wander off and fall in the river since i can't see any more..but I can still smell and will bark the whole time..gotta get back outdoors!!..love, Cora-Belle

  • Hi Frannie & Glue Squad, The horses shed as much as I do, wow..but no big clumps have appeared yet. Maybe I lost some of it this week at the spa. That would be good news for Mom and the sweeper, hehehe...Congrats to Wu-Tang & Sequoia for their wins this week; Jimmy Byron Dean, you are quite the poet, great job, thanks for the blessings :) ; Rebel, have fun with your family get together, sounds like you are going to have alot of company; Ruby, your "big day" is around the corner; Kirby, hope you are on the mend from your surgery and your tail is better, remember no biting. Well, back to the deck for some fresh air. Hi to all my friends and Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you. Have a nice weekend.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo
