Picking Vegetables With Ryan

Posted by F&S

We Frenchies heard that Martha needed some fresh vegetables to make her special green juice that she drinks most mornings.  We're very fortunate here at the farm because there's a vegetable greenhouse for growing crops all through the cold months.

Here we are at the vegetable greenhouse with Ryan to pick some fresh veges for Martha's morning green juice concoction.

Oh, it's nice and toasty in here on such a cold winter's day.

Ryan, everything is growing so nicely in here. I'm sure there will be plenty to make into juice.

Ryan, one of the most important ingredients in Martha's green juice is spinach.

It's good that you use scissors to cut the spinach, instead of yanking it out of the ground. That way, the roots will send up new leaves for another crop and the cut leaves are much cleaner.

Ryan, here's an empty bed for planting more spinach. We want to have plenty to last all winter.

Oh, what beautiful baby carrots. They also make great juice and they are loaded with beta-carotene.

Good, you're also cutting kale, which has lots of calcium, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

Francesca, it's little wonder why Martha has so much energy and stamina with all of these fresh and healthy vegetables she consumes. Green juice is her vitality elixir!

  • Ooh what a treat to see greenery...

These long Wintery snowy days are wearing on me!

I bet you can make a nice green salad with all the fixins' in the greenhouse, huh! :)

Mild temps are due in NH for at least the next few days.

Let's hope Mother Nature has put away her snow making kit until next Wintah'! :)

    Happy Wednesday to all..

  • Good Morning F & S

My mom said she could use one of Martha's green cocktails this morning she is tired. She got up really early so she could go to Mass at 7 then head North for meetings. Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent which means the Easter Bunny is right around the corner :)

Mom got a good scare this morning. It's still very dark out and we had our breakfast then headed out back. Well mom got hit with the smell of skunk and before she could get us back in we took off like bats outta hell. Thank goodness we didn't get sprayed that would have been a nightmare for sure. Boy do those things stink!!!

Well not much time for me this morning, mom is leaving so I think I'll go snuggle with dad :)

  • Hello ladies,
It is so good to see Francesca out and about. Sharkey, I bet you are just thrilled. I think Martha should give the recipe for her green juice drink. Does she give it to the three of you? Zoe, what the heck......... There was skunk perfume when Karen opened the door to let the dogs out this morning. I wonder if he got helicoptered in from Zoe's place. Hehehehehehehehehe
Cora-Belle, you are quite the romantic, aren't you? That is a good idea. I don't usually post on a Thursday but I will do a poem. Geez, that is tomorrow. I better start thinking right now.
    Love to all you maniacs
    Maddox
PS - banana Joe won at Westminster. Karen said he is a really good dog. I think he has a kool name.

  • Hi Sharkey and Francesca,
Once again it's good to see that you are getting out and about, Francesca. You must be healing well. Martha is lucky to have the two of you to help get those fresh veggies for her special elixir. Love your little blog!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Having fresh veggies all year round sounds good to me. Now I really an not into veggies, but they are good for Mommy and Daddy. They are always munching on them so they must be good. Banana Joe, Banana Joe; what’s he got that I haven’t got??? Oh yeah, that’s right a trophy. Congratulations to the little guy on his win. Well, rain again today. When will it stop. Now if it were snow we would have about two feet of it. Daddy empties his “rain gauge” every day. For the past three days it’s been about three inches each day. We could get some T - T - T thunder storms this afternoon. Don’t like the sound of that; in more ways than one. I think I’ll just cover my ears and take a nap while it’s quiet.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good morning ladies and Ryan,
It's so good to see the dazzling duo back together again. It is so cool that you can grow your own vegetables in the winter. Martha must have a VitaMix to make her super-green-energy-juice! Mimi says it sounds good, I say a giant YUK! I'm like Kirby Bear, not a vegetable lover at all. It's so disappointing when all I find on the kitchen floor is a bit of vegetable.
Hey, a big shout out for little black dogs! Wasn't his win a surprise? I was rooting for Banana Joe and Mimi was leaning toward the Old English Sheep Dog.
She's so in to a lot of fur, whatever.....
Anyway, hang in there Kirby buddy, the thunder passes & I sure hope you don't hear any boomers. I'll check in later to see what other posts pop up.
Daily hugs & kisses to Precious and Karen.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! I am so glad to see both of you beautiful girls in the vegetable greenhouse helping Ryan pick all of those delicious veggies that Martha likes to make an awesome juice with to have every morning! No wonder she is so strong and brilliant!! My Mom eats spinach leaves everyday that she gets at Costco! Sure wish we had a vegetable greenhouse, also! Thanks so much for all the comments about these veggies and Mom will probably eat more of them, also! Hope you both continue having great days!! Was fun to read the first 5 comments from you Glue Squaders today! We haven't had any skunks in our yard and hope we never do-stinky! Will check back to read more! Hope you all have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • I love vegetables, but to drink a green concoction? nah, not for me...But then I don't look as good as MS because of that ;-)
Good to see you walking around Franny! I love the photo #10, so endearing.

Sun is out but winter is still here, yuk! :-(
I'm assuming I feel this way because I will be another year older...it just doesn't stop, the aging I mean...he he

Hope that all the GS is doing well and that Cora Belle is improving with whatever ails her.

Love the email group photo of Missy Chow in the snow...so cute! JD meeeuw and prurr from Kitty.
    Ruby how is mommie Lynn?

    Hugs to all here,
    delia & Kitty =^, ,^=

  • Ruby dear I hope you are feeling better...how awful having the pain in the exposed tooth...OK remember not to tug of war anymore, regardless of how old and good your teeth are...you poor thing having cage teeth. Hugs!
Thank God for the blessing of having your loving family now :-)

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
It is soooo wonderful to see Franny out, even if it is on a leash. I am not much of a veggie fan, so maybe this green drink would be good. Your greenhouse looks really warm and cool at the same time.Keep minding Franny and take it easy and soon there will be a party in your future.

As for me, I had an emergency adventure last night to the vet dentist. Broke off a canine tooth playing tug of war with Dad. Mom says it is all fun and games until a tooth breaks. Had to be put out to dream land and have pulp capping to keep from getting infection and save the tooth. Anyway when they x-rayed the tooth, the pulp showed that Ruby girl is going to be having a double birthday party next month. You see, they can tell your age in dogs, by the pulp development inside the tooth, and I am going to be 2. I will let Mom do my birthday party planning and I hear I get 2 cakes and 2 pieces of pizza. It is all I can do to plan Valentine's Day goodies for tomorrow and the Oscar Party. I think I will go rest for now, that dreamland juice is still in me from last night. Rebel, take care of your neck and you rest Cora Belle. I am trying to poem think for tomorrow. Karen, lots of hugs and loves and get over the shingles. Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey, maddox, Delia and Kitty, Kirby, Zoe, Missy Chow and all my glue squad buddies-
Franny, great you are out helping Sharkey obtain some vegetables from the wonderful greenhouse today. It looks so springlike! You must love walking around outside again with Sharkey! Mom loves to eat baby carrots everyday but we don't drink green liquid. Spinach is so healthy, makes people strong.
Corabelle, a Valentine poem day sounds nice. Will have to hone up my persian writing skills.
Zoe and Kirby, too funny about that skunk! Stay away from the fake black and white cats, remember Pepe le peu! Missy Chow, hope you have some of this sunshine up near you. Dudley, we love your comments, hugs to you. Rebel, hope your neck feels better! Baby favor, did you celebrate Mardi Gras? We loved seeing Banana Joe win last night! Abby was jealous of all the attention given dogs on t.v. She said the glue squad dogs and cats are already great! Kept snoring during the "you could be great" commercials.
Ruby, hope your teeth feel better soon. SUNSHINE here today and 41 now. Bring on Spring! Purrrrs to all my glue squad buddies and feel better Karen- James Dean

  • What fun, an outing to the greenhouse, Francesca Baby! I am glad to see that you are wearing a harness-- collars are pretty and practical for wearing your tags, but not a good thing for doggies with neck problems. I laughed when I saw you sniffing the carrot, because I LOVE carrots!
We didn't see Westminster last night, but Dad told us about who won-- I am always glad when little dogs win, it gives me hope that someday maybe a Frenchie will.

  • Hi girls and especially Franny -it's so nice to see you up and at 'em again. It must feel great to be able to stretch your little limbs after being cooped up. I'm glad you're taking it slow and easy though. You'll be running again soon enough! Enjoy one another and where the heck is GK?

  • Hello everyone out there! Been absent a few days, but we have lots to catch up on. Firstly it was great to see both F&S in the greenhouse helping out with the "greens". We have a greenhouse but its tiny compared to Martha's and we can't grow anything in the ground, although it keeps Mom happy! As a rule we Beardies don't like green things at all, although I'm the only one who will eat baby carrots, Martha and Lucy just look at them and say no thanks! Lucy has met the racing cats (skunks) twice now, you'd think she would know that they are not good to play with, but she never quite makes the connection between the bad smell and the skunk! Lesson learned though, do not let dogs out before any light in the sky - there are skunks out there, somewhere!
Glad you are recovering Ruby, and I'm glad you now know exactly how old you are - birthday parties are very nice, especially if there is food involved. I love food, and since I'm a growing boy (50 lbs. @ 6 months) I'm always looking for food. I'm the same size as Lucy who will be 5 this year, but I'm a boy so they tell me I'll be bigger. I like playing with the other dogs, but I also like the cats. My cat buddies include Max (who is the leader) - he is not a really big cat but he sure keeps everyone in line, Bailey (who is the only female and doesn't like to go outside much cause the house may not be there when she gets back) and Guinness (who is Bailey's brother) and is always trying to be boss. They don't really like to play with me, but tolerate me most of the time.
Well, its very sunny here today, lots of deck time in the sunshine and warmth - everyone keep well, Precious I hope you are feeling somewhat better, Ruby keep improving and everyone else be well! I think the Old English should have won at Westminster cause they look much like me, and I am beautiful!
Love, wags and wiggles - Riley (writing), Martha and Lucy + Max, Bailey and Guinness.

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, So nice to see both of you together and helping Ryan with the veggies. Not so sure I would like the veggie drink and I don't think Mom would either. Ruby, so sorry to hear of your dental adventure, hope you are feeling better today.
James Dean, we are getting sunshine today and it feels so nice, temps have been in the 40's the last couple of days & snow is melting. Rebel, how's your neck? Dudley Do Right, make sure no skunks come visiting, don't get too close. Maddox, how is Karen doing? Sending her lots of kisses. Hi to all my buddies. Got to run, Mom has work for work to do so I have to go back to patrol the house and yard.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • ..yes, veggies.. are good..I only eat a few frozen peas and maybe a green bean every now and then..and lots of pumpkin..yikes, a broken tooth, take it easy Ruby..skunks..they are bad berries..haven't smelled one in a long time..but they are troublesome little varmits..though, they look cute!..Karen, hope you are feeling less pain every day..pain is no fun...and yes, we glue squaders are all winners..Westminster would be overwhelmed if we all showed up..of course Maddox would have have to show this old farm/ranch dog how to behave in public...probably not acceptable to try and bite everybody and act like a wild animal...love, Cora-Belle P.s. James took me to town and I bought Lucinda a bottle of perfume for V.Day and he helped me put a paw print on her card..hope she likes it!

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, Back from the deck to check postings and something happened to my first one, bet my big paw hit a wrong key :( . Going to try again. It's great to see you girls together checking out things and to pick veggies with Ryan. I'm not so sure this veggie drink would do anything for me and I don't think Mom would be too crazy about however, it probably tastes good. Ruby, so sorry about your emergency visit, hope you are feeling better today. James Dean, it has been quite sunny here and have spent time outside today in warm temps watching the snow melt. Rebel, hope your neck is feeling better, Cora Belle, hope you are doing okay. Maddox, hope Karen is feeling better, sending her lots of kisses & hugs. Hi to all my buddies.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Wow! Have I been out of the loop! since last I heard Sharkey is a tree climber (didn't know a dog could do that), Expert tree pruner (I'm not surprised), BBQ expert (a bit surprised) and Franny is out and about (even if on a leash). so much happened this week! Have missed you all while I was recouping. Hope you all are surviving the snow on the East Coast!

    Jakey.
