A Study in Begonias

Posted by F&S

During the winter, it's so nice to be able to spend time in the warm and toasty greenhouse and enjoy all of the splendors growing there.  The other day, we Frenchies, spent some time communing with Martha's beautiful begonia collection.

Begonias are beguiling aren't they! :)

I do like the pink/green variegated one the best.

  • Hello ladies,
It is cold and dreary outside but warm and Alice with flowers inside the greenhouse. I think photo number 5 is very very pretty. If I had those flowers I would give them to Karen. She would like them. Rebel how was your big birthday weekend? Do you watch NASCAR races? We are big fans. Karen used to go all over the country to the different tracks. But after the fire she stopped going. Hey GK, what are you up to? You should pick some flowers for Francesca and Sharkey. That would be nice.
Well Glue Squad, it is nice and brisk this morning so I am going to get in some deck time. Catch you later for updates from the weekend
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good morning ladies,
It is so nice to see flowers when there is snow and ice outside. You gals look so pretty sitting with the flowers. I bet the greenhouses are just tooooo hot for G.K. and all his fur.
I want to thank everybody for the great birthday wishes. I made a really stupid typo the other day. I'm not 11,goodness gracious, no! I'm only 9. Math is just not my thing!
Mimi & Papa took me on a road trip to visit friends. It was a great day! I got to see two really great golden retrievers that are very gentle.
We watched the Daytona 500, glad that Danica finished! We watched golf, too.
The kitchen should smell good today, Mimi bought some Meyer Lemons & is going to make pound cakes. Yummm. Oh, I saw Dr Becky on Friday & I don't go back for 2 weeks. Yea! I'm beginning to feel like I've been handled too much. Anyway, I'm still taking muscle relaxers & pain pills, but I am feeling much better.
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Good Morning F & S

Looking at all those beautiful plants makes me want Spring to get here even faster! I wish we had a greehouse like that I would put my lounge chair in there and pretend it was Spring - maybe you should do that :)

I had a great weekend until I saw Mom cleaning out her golf bag then saw a suitcase appear. She is going away to play golf on Sunday with her friends. I can't believe she is leaving us :( Thank God my Dad isn't going so we won't have to deal with Super Nanny. Maybe I'll sneak in her golf bag there is room for me in there ;)

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
What fun to see more of the greenhouse and the Begonias. Mom said her Grandma used to raise them. Maybe she will get some for me to sit among like you girls. Well, she would have to put them on the floor of the greenhouse. Rebel, I am so glad you had a grand 9th birthday. Zoe, I know the feeling, my Dad is going ice fishing for 3 days, and I don't like seeing him pack stuff. I just sit in front of the garage door and try to keep him from going.

This weekend was the best ever. We had about 8 inches of snow and I butt vroomed all over the yard. Then it was the Oscar party and I got lots of extra goodies my way. I would go out and play in the snow and come in covered in snow and the treats would come pouring from everywhere, I looked so darn silly. And guess who won the pool---you got it--Mom and Ruby. Mom said she hasn't won in years, but it was my advice on The Life of Pi that put her over the top. That movie is so good you all have to see it. I must go and avoid getting my ears cleaned. I guess a girl has to put up with some inconveniences for good health. Can hardly wait to hear of everyone's weekend. Have a GEM of a day.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! You girls look so relaxed sitting in the nice, warm greenhouse showing us all of those beautiful begonias! Sure wish we had a greenhouse like that where I could relax! At least Mom makes a nice warm fire in our wood stove almost every day and I can relax in front of it! I love the information you gave us, too! How is your weather today? We had a nice warm day on Friday and then the rain and 35 to 40 MPH wind on Saturday and last night! It's still windy right now. How nice to hear from new buddies on your blogs and of course from our Glue Squad! Rebel, you and I are about the same age and I so glad you are feeling better! Ruby, my Mom saw in her newspaper that you were getting more snow finally and hope you enjoy it! Hope all of you are doing well and will check back later! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Now I’m really mad. So many of you getting snow and all I get is rain. And to top that off, it was warm enough yesterday for me to get a bath. Everyone in the area where I live has problems planting their new spring flowers. It seems that the squirrels think that the plants may have a bulb on them and they dig the newly planted plants up. We already have flowers in our yard and winter isn’t nearly over yet. Guess we will have an early spring after all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Well hello everyone: I want to be in that greenhouse, I need to be in that greenhouse! How beautiful are the flowers, it would be a tropical mini vacation. Well, its nice to dream about, at least.
The weekend was good, we all went to the groomers - we are all clean, sweet smelling (for a little while) and have had our ears and nails cleaned/trimmed. Riley looked like a little showdog (for about 5 minutes). Lots of snow here, but has been somewhat milder, we are looking to get a monster storm starting tomorrow evening, coming in from Texas they say. We'll see - its really time for Spring to start - they can just keep the snow. Hope everyone's weekend was good, warmer days got to be coming. Love ya all, Beardie bounces to everyone Martha, Lucy (writing), and Riley boy.

  • Hello Franny, Sharkey, Rebel, Ruby, Maddox, Lucy and all my buddies and of course Super Zoe,
Catching up on reading after a busy Oscar weekend with Mom at home. We had some yuccky weather but today is awesome, bright SPRING sunshine and 52!!!
Love those begonias and the spring pictures in the new Martha S. Living! Especially picture of Martha out by a giant compost pile working. Imagine all that gold dirt, treasure for gardeners.
Mom started a new fitness program along with her running. Now she is getting ready for work. We are off tomorrow, yipee!
Purrs to Ms. Kitty, high paws to all my friends- James Byron Dean the persian boy
P.S. Glad you are feeling better, Rebel!

  • Ladies you look like cute little dolls among the flowers. Sounds like everyone had a wonderful weekend. I wish I could help you with the snow Kirby Bear, we're supposed to get another round of 3-6 inches of snow in Chicago tomorrow.

  • ..hi everybody...wow..I love begonias..will be busy looking for a lotusland begonia for my pal, Lucinda....muscle relaxers and pain meds..I take them everyday..plus stuff for my thyroid..makes this old girl feel good..must see what Lucinda is up to, hear her rattling around in the kitchen..everybody have a good day..over and out..love, Cora-Belle

  • Seems to me, if you have to be in all that snow that a greenhouse is the way to go. Although I have just a hard time with that Snow in the first place. We used to live in Indiana, and my humans had enough of that white stuff and said "Off to California we go". I was pleased!

All the room Martha has for flowers is so exciting to see! And you teach us new things each time you wander around the farm. Thank you so much!!

  • Oh man that's not fair!!! another green house full of greenery ;-) This morning I went outside and the Birds were singing the temp went up to 40 and the sun is out...BUT we all know what's coming :-(
F & S you look like statues in the photos...so cute!
Kitty ran out into the woods when she saw daddie Al come in his coveralls, shovel in hand to clean the upper deck...she got scared of him and ran. I whistled for her, and she came running through the snow up the deck into the house...I laughed all the way...what a wussy!
Painted miniature paintings today of some of the places we visited in Europe this fall...hence I'm late here.
Monday already and before I know it it will be Friday...another week gone...geepers! :-(
If anyone likes Doodling I did a webpage on some of mine...take a look...
