Visiting the Farm Crew

Posted by Sharkey

It dawned on me the other day that I haven't seen much of the farm crew.  I know they've been busy because I hear all sorts of power equipment, but I just didn't know what they've been busy doing.  G.K. and I went out to investigate.

Hi Chhiring. I haven't seen you and your crew around for awhile and I was wondering what you guys have been up to?

Francesca, my usual traveling companion, is confined to the house while her neck gets better, so I brought G.K. along for the ride.

So, Pete - I understand that you and Chhiring are busy with the rest of the crew out in the woods. You are still cleaning up from the mess that Hurricane Sandy made.

You've been cutting up so many fallen trees that now you have to take a break and sharpen your chain saw blade.

Oh, that makes a terrible sound! Good thing you're wearing safety goggles. I'll stay right where I am, thank you.

It takes a while to sharpen a chainsaw because you have to sharpen one chainsaw tooth at a time. It helps to have a rotary grindstone like that one because it speeds up the process.

Having a sharp blade on a chainsaw not only saves effort and wear on your equipment but makes using it more safe. Besides, dull chains won't cut straight.

Oh boy! More loud noise!

That wood chipper has been working overtime with so many trees and branches down.

The guys have been doing a great job of aiming the shoot so that the wood chips are sent into the holes where the fallen trees once stood. The chips will just decompose there, eventually turning into soil.

  • Well I give you credit Sharkey being near all that noise and danger....why? I can't stand to hear wood chippers or chain saws because of the storm we had years ago...that's all you heard for weeks.
Nice to see GK and you budding up, at least you two are doing something together.
Be good and stay safe! ;-)

Kitty is outside right now at 10:25pm that's because it's warmer and all the snow melted from the rain last night...now I have to wait for her to come home before going to bed...jeez!

    delia & Kitty =^, ,^=

  • Hi Sharkey and GK,
It was a good idea to leave Francesca back at the house. You know how she loves to visit the crew. She has to stay calm right now. The guys are very hard workers and they do a fantastic job. Kudos to all of them.
I am going to bed now. I still can't believe I thought it was Sunday and it really was Monday. But I am back on track.
    Till the morning,
    Maddox

  • Hi there,
Well I am posting again and my post from earlier isn't on yet so that makes up so I will have two posts on right away this morning so that makes up for yesterday. Yeah.
We had freezing rain yesterday ao I hope that melts today. I was thinking, I hope they have a big party for Francesca when her 30 days are up. That would be nice for her.
Not much going on here. The deck is wet. Yuk. So I guess I will check out Animal Planet and see what is happening there
    Later,
    Maddox
PS - does anyone know why we have to fill in our name, email and website everyday instead of that info just staying there? Martha's blog is like that too. It is sort of a pain in the buns.

  • Good Morning Sharkey and GK

That Sandy sure did cause a lot of damage at the farm. Mom showed me a picture yesterday of a marina and it looked like someone just picked up all the boats and threw them in a pile. That Sandy was one horrible storm I hope she never comes back.

Precious got her blood work and urine culture results and not such great news. She is having some issues with her kidneys. Mom and dad are really upset they are going to meet with Dr. Keefe later in the week. I hope she is ok she is like my adoptive dog mama. She is always cleaning me and loves to play. She looks fine to me but I notice that she has been drinking lots of water lately. Say a prayer she can be fixed.

Finally this morning I didn't have to do a sprint out and back to do my business it was above freezing out :) I hope the sun comes out so I can get some deck time.

Franny hope you are feeling better!!!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Wow, I sure do love the power tools. When my Daddy gets some out I know that he will be doing something important and I will be able to help. The only problem with power tools is that most of them make a lot of noise. He can put in ear plugs but I can’t. He put tissues in my ears one day. That didn’t help much; just made me look funny. He is always doing something like that to me. Don’t tell him, but I kind of like the attention. Let me see what can I do today? I think I will stay inside because it may rain today and it will be in the 70’s. Winters these days aren’t what they used to be. Back then you could count on it being cold. I miss the “good ole days.”
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hey Sharkey & G.K.,
Wow, Chirring and the guys do have lots to do! Are they back from Christmas vacation? Sure hope the weather holds out so they can get all that sawing and chipping done before the burlap-taking-down chore starts.
It's really dark here and it's going to storm. Actually, it's raining already.
Mimi turned the dining room into a sewing room. She has 3 quilts to finish this year. She says she needs lots of elbow room for these things. I have to watch out for pins in the carpet!
Well, everybody, I'm off to nap time. Have a great day.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! Sharkey, you and Gk must have had a great time going outside and watching 2 of your buddies, Chhiring and Pete continue clearing the trees that fell during Sandy storm!!!! I know Franny would love to have been out there with you, but at least she is doing better day by day! My Mom has to sharpen her chainsaw and my Uncle Tim does a great job doing it! Mom cuts lots of wood everyday! Delia, sure hope Kitty got back in the house ASAP-I love Kitty, too! Maddox, we are having rain here, also and just a little bit of sunshine! Zoe, my prayers go to Precious and I hope she is doing better! Kirby, I can't stand noises either and we have airplanes going over our home every day and night, but at least it's less noisy inside our home! Rebel, my Mom used to make quilts a long time ago, also! Hey Ruby and the rest of you buddies, I will check back later to see your comments! Hope all of you have a great day and stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Sounds like Pete and Chhiring could use the help of some beaver buddies! They are the best at wood chippin'! :)

A bit of snow fell in NH overnight...

I'm so ready for Spring! :)

    Happy Tuesday!

  • I'm back!
I was checking out yesterdays posts to see how many there were.
I've got to talk to Cora Belle!
You go girl. Always in the middle of the kitchen floor is my motto! Of course, I do take up a little less space than you do. Ha, ha.....
    Bye for now
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello Girls, G.K. & Glue Squad Buddies,
First, I must say a big THANK YOU to wonderful Ron, the director of The Daily Wag. He has gotten Ruby Girl up and running again. Yep, it was the browser. Now Firefox, and we are a go. You are BRILLIANT RON. Now I have a lot of catching up to do.

Franny, It looks like everyone is taking the best care of you possible. I would still work Mama for a home theater set up however. And Zoe, about Precious, OMG, I am so worried. She is very brave having blood taken. That scares me. Maddox you are so funny, skipping a day. Kirby, I can just picture you with tissue poking out of your ears. You can't see me but I am rolling in hay laughing. All this ice with the cold is not fun for our parents, but Abby it gives you good "cc" time with Mom. Now Rebel, you can have a lot of "cc" time with Papa while Mimi is making the quilts. She is very creative. To make some quilts is on my mom's bucket list. Oh, and everyone, don't forget I am planning a party for February 1st. It is Martha's 6th birthday (if I didn't mess up the date). You know, Martha of Martha, Lucy, and Riley. I have to start my long distance party planning today to get it covered. You know, I think I will get Mom to post the Warrior Prince Biscuit recipe again for the newbies. You will looooove them Martha. Well, thanks everyone for putting up with me off for awhile, and thanks again RON for being a genius. Love ya baby!!!
Have a GEM of a day all.
    Love & licks,
    Ruby

  • ..I like chain saws and chippers..that always means a big bonfire later...don't like hearing our buddy Precious may be having some problems...seems I have to make this short..something about an hair appointment..seems Lucinda needs to get beautified..I think she is beautiful already..but what does a cattledog know..hope she brings me back a maple bar..I am staying home with James..he says we are going to fire up the tractor and I can ride on the trailer with Ivan and Ivanka (they seem to spend more time here than at home) and bark at critters and check the fence line..gotta go..love, Cora-Belle

  • Hello Sharkey-- it's good to see you getting around the farm and not moping during Francesca Baby's 30 days. And what fun to see GK join in!!
Would you believe that it is warm enough today in Milwaukee that Mom has left the front porch door open for a little while, so we can go in and out and make sure everything is ok in our park? Crazy!
    A bientot!

  • Good job Sharkey and G.K. getting around the farm but watch out for those loud noises.

Zoe please give your sweet sister Precious lots of hugs and kisses. I am sending her prayers and good thoughts that her kidney issues can be fixed.

  • Oops, we hit submit before I could answer a question. Maddox, I am sorry if you asked about Nose Butter before and I didn't answer; we don't keep up with the DW as well as other Glue Squadders. Nose Butter is a product made by a company called The Blissful Dog. If you search with either of those phrases you will almost certainly find it, as FirstMama is really good about that findy stuff online. It has lots of good stuff in it, much of which I can't remember, but it starts with shea butter and goes from there. I'm pretty sure it even has some vitamin E in it. Everything is natural or organic, so if pups happen to lick some off of other pups' noses (not naming names Roxy...)it can't hurt them!
    A bientot again!

  • Wow I just read Franny's post from yesterday and then sharkey's today. There is quite a difference in their activity. This makes me a bit worried because on Friday I'm to have a procedure. My owner said I'm getting "fixed" but I'm wondering what they plan to fix? Molly got "fixed" a year and a half ago, and when she came home she was quite loopy but didn't look much different. I'm hoping I'm not going to be caged like Franny! Oh dear, I need to go run to take care of this fretful feeling......

  • Hello everyone - it was very interesting today to see Sharkey and GK out and about, supervising the wood chipping. We are glad the Franny is doing better, but are also very worried about Precious. Let's hope that the wonders of veterinary medicine can make her good as new.
So today is our Dad's birthday and we started off the day going on a super long walk with our human sister Sam - we have lots of "rail trails" around us - these are old railway lines that have been ripped out and now are paved over to make wonderful walking trails. You can go for miles - there are lots of ponds along the trail edge, you really have to watch that Riley doesn't just launch himself into the water! He is crazy that one, but turns out he's a good swimmer (thank goodness!). Dad and Samantha went out for lunch (we didn't get to go, drats) and tonight we are having KFC and birthday cake. We love birthday cake! It will be party time for everyone.
Well, gotta go for now, I'm looking forward to my birthday on Feb. 1st - everyone says its a cold time of year, but Beardies love the cold and I always look forward to having a slice of pizza for my birthday! My mom will watch out for the Warrior Prince dog treat recipe - maybe she'll have time on the weekend to make them for us.
Talk to you all later, Love Martha (writing today), Lucy & Riley + cats.

  • Happy birthday to Martha, Lucy and Riley and the cats dad...I love birthdays!..over and out, Cora-Bell p.s. the tractor ride was fun..we all got wet and now we are laying around the pellet stove, when I say we, I mean Ivan and Ivanka are here..Lucinda called their people and they said they would come get them in an hour...how funny is that..wish all my glue squad buddies could go on a tractor ride with us!

  • Hi Sharkey and G.K. Looks like you had an interesting visit with the farm crew. Sharkey, love your little orange ski-jacket! Hello to Francesca!

  • Hi Girls, GK and Glue Squad Buddies, I'm really late today and didn't get a chance to post yesterday. Frannie, you look great and glad you are feeling a little better. It looks like everyone are really watching over you and being careful so you will be back to your normal real soon. Ruby, glad your Mom got everything cleared up with Ron & and her computer. A day without The Daily Wag is a day without a treat!! Cora-Belle, sounds like you had a fun day, tractor ride, playing with Ivan & Ivanka. Sure hope Precious will be okay. Gail, Mom's with you, just waiting for spring too, enough of the cold.
Hope all my friends are doing okay...I've been a little restless tonight and have gotten into trouble so my computer time is short - hopefully tomorrow will be better.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo
