A Stinky Bug in Our Blog Studio!

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey and I were in our blog studio monitoring comments from all of our Glue Squad buddies on The Daily Wag.  What a great group of friends!  Anyway, I got distracted by something moving on the floor and I went to have a better look.  Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Hey, you! Why are you crawling around in the blog studio?

Pee-eww! You stink. You must be what they call a stink bug, native to China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan and accidentally introduced into the United States in the late 1990s.

A stink bug has glands on its belly that release a pungent odor that smells a lot like cilantro, which is supposed to ward off predators. However, I rather like cilantro, so you are in trouble!

I think I'll play with you for a while, though.

Or maybe I'll just eat you and get it over with.

Wow, Franny! It's a genuine stink bug!

Let me in on the action. Did you know that the stink bug is considered to be an agricultural pest?

They like to enter buildings through the siding, or any space they can fit through, during cold months. Once inside, they go into sort of a hibernation for the winter, until spring, when they go back outdoors to devour vegetation.

Somehow, I don't think this one will make it till spring.

  • i hope you can digest that bug - lol

  • OMG. What a way to start the day. Good action shots. It was like a play by play of the proper way to devour a stink bug. Did you get a belly ache after you ate that thing? Sharkey, I think you can consider yourself lucky that Francesca did not share this delicacy with you. P U. Hehehehehehehehehe.
Well gang, how was your weekend? Did anyone do anything exciting or get into trouble? Zoe, we need a good TP incident report from you. See what you can do. Missy Chow, you have been good for a while too. What's up with that? Shame on me. Shame. Shame. Here I am encouraging you girls to be bad. But I don't want you to do really horrible things, just something bad enough to make us laugh. Is that so wrong?
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
OK now, only one question from me. Did you chew on a breath mint after eating that stink bug? I’m glad it’s early in the morning and I can get back to sleep and forget I read this. Well I guess I can see how you two treat intruders into your place. Not a good weekend for me here. It was so hot for me with all my winter fur. Just think, it’s the middle of the winter and it’s air conditioner weather already. It was only 20 to 25 degrees above normal here. The Weather Channel said that it was really warm where you were too. Just think, we could be in Utah with two feet of snow; sound good to me. When do we start for Utah? Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good Morning F & S

Now that is a fun blog - I love watching this kind of stuff. You can keep the bath photos gave me nightmares for days. Are those stink bugs ugly or what? We get those things all the time and they show up in the strangest places. Mom was cleaning her kitchen cabinets last weekend and found one alive. Yes alive in the spice cabinet! Needless to say every cabinet in the house was emptied and cleaned. Good thing we only had one but it was enough to gross us out big time. They look like they wear a shield - ugly suckers.

What a great weekend I wish it wouldn't end. Mom went to the Italian Market on Saturday and brought home lots of good stuff. I got to taste some of the cheese - YUMMY. Then Nicole slept over Saturday night and we had so much fun. She was doing a puzzle with mom and I would take the pieces and run - oh how fun ;)

Yesterday mom and dad relaxed and watched football so I was on mom's lap all day - just heaven. I did get on the end table when they left the room and chewed up the napkins from dad's snack. That is the only paper I'm getting to these days the bathroom doors have been shut when they leave the house. I have to see if T-Bone can get me in I'm craving a little TP ;)

    Happy Monday - NOT - I don't like Monday's

    Zoe

  • I beg your pardon, Franny, but please do not come near me today with your stink bug breath! I would like to proffer a genteel suggestion to ask Martha for a cup of peppermint or spearmint mouthwash, and use it accordingly (gargling a little might help, too). Thank you.

  • Hello Girls & Glue Squad Buddies,
Had a great post, and then the paw pushed where the paw shouldn't sooo, back to the writing board. Great photos of the play by play capture. I think James Dean and Kitty would call it a "cature." Mom didn't know they hurt veggies--always learning from you girls. It was a great weekend for me. Lot of cold weather, and plenty of "party and playtime." The Broncos played Saturday and Golden Globes Sunday. Popcorn and Bosco party and lots of toys everywhere. We are sad the Broncos lost, but now I can have more "p and p" time this weekend for all the teams of my Glue Squad buddies. So girlfriends Zoe, Missy, Abby, and Chloe, I bet you are getting ready for some fun "p and p" time with the Patriots. Molly and Jake, I heard it was cold in San Diego over the weekend. Kirby, how is the tail? Had an idea--instead of a cone around the neck, how 'bout a tube around the tail? Dudley, did you help Mom cut more wood for the wood stove? And Rebel, any updates on the eye surgery date? Mom said she thought you had a b-day coming up. And Martha, Lucy, and Riley, you said you live up north...is that in Canada or the North Pole? And to my girlfriend Cora Belle, meant to tell you the doctor thought I might have a hearding dog in my genes, and a northern cold type dog, like Husky. We might be cousins. Excited to hear of everyone's weekend, will check back later, but until then...have a GEM of a day!!
    Love & licks,
    Ruby
P.S. Thinking of birthdays, Mom has a special Glue Squad book and she wants to put everyones birthdays in it by their photo. Could you tell us your birthdays and how old you are now? I will be 1 on March 22nd. That is the date the doc at a shelter gave me, because of dating my teeth he said. I know everyone probably knows everyones' age, but since I am new in town, it will help me too. Thanks.

  • Hello Everyone:
Stinkbugs, ants, creepy crawlies, earwigs - we have them all in the country - but they aren't that appealing to us - our cat friends (we have three of them as well) they just love to eat bugs - we call it chewing on crunchy bugs! F&S you are good hunters!
To answer Ruby Girl, we live in Canada (southern Ontario) so its really not that far north, however all the snow melted this weekend and we had record highs for the weekend, supposed to get cold again today. Went out for a long walk yesterday, Lucy had to go in the bushes and now she's full of burrs - and she's not very happy to be groomed! Riley is only 5 months old but he can run so fast - as fast as Lucy for sure. He sure didn't look like a show dog when he got home yesterday.
For the birthdays, Martha will be 6 on February 1st, Lucy will be 5 on May 4th and Riley will be 1 on August 10th.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Happy Beardies Bouncing - Martha, Lucy and Riley

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, YIKE! Did you really eat that stinky bug, Franny?! It did look like you were licking it, but I hope you didn't eat it! We have lots of bugs outside and sometimes lots of tiny ants inside! These photos are so fun to look at and I always love your blogs-thanks! Maddox, I know all of our buddies can get in trouble, but none are really bad and I try to be as good as possible! Kirby, we were in the 20s and 30s over the weekend even though the sun came out and Mom got it up to the 70s inside using her wood stove! Zoe, how fun that you had such a nice weekend and finally got to chew some napkins! Malcom, I've never tasted peppermint or spearmint mouthwashes! Interesting! Ruby, you are a fascinating young girl and I love all of the comments you share with us! Even though it was cold outside, Mom was able to take apart 6 big pallets and cut 10 boxes of wood to keep us warm in the house with our wood stove on Saturday and Sunday! My birthday is sometime in June and I pick the date by my age! I am 8 years old right now! Will check back to read all other comments later! Hope you all are safe and comfortable today! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Maybe your little friend thought it was in a "Bug Studio", not a "Blog Studio" :)

I don't think I've had any encounters with said stink bug! Maybe New Hampha' is too cold for them! :)

Make sure you have the Pepto Bisomol handy Frannie if you eat that stink bug. I'm sure the fall out will be "pee you" :)

    Happy Monday to all..
    gail

  • Ach du lieber! Yuky Poo Francesca, eating a Stink bug! what were you thinking?
Funny that this morning there was a large ant walking around in a daze and Kitty played it too death...interesting how something so small and simple can get a furfriends attention ;-)
I forgot that today was Monday, hence the lateness...that's part of being retired! he he :-)

    Happy Monday everyone!
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Awww Franny look at you and your new friend Stinky the Stink Bug. I was always taught though not to play with my food.

Did everyone have a good weekend? Wild weekend in football. Rebel sweetie sorry I didn't know about your upcoming eye surgery. Saying my prayers for you. Have a great day everyone!

  • Molly and I concur with Kirby Bear! A breathe mint is needed now!. We had a cold weekend here so we stayed warm at home watching the 49ers whip some Green Bay tushie! Our Mom loves the 9ers and our dad loves Green bay so it was a very exciting game for us to watch. Molly and I try hard to stay neutral especially when mom and dad don't agree! Glad to hear all our new friends seemed to have a good weekend... Mondya is almost half over so here's to a quick week to the next great weekend!!!

  • Evening Girls & Glue Squad, Boy, I'm really late today. I don't know where the time goes. Frannie, hope you are not sick tonight eating that bug earlier today. It certainly didn't look to apetizing. Mom found one on the kitchen floor over the weekend, not sure how it got in, but it for a "swim" very quickly. Maddox, actually I haven't been quite the angel recently. I'm into fashion footwear and have carried a couple of Mom's shoes from the bedroom not to mention a slipper or two. Then there Mom's winter coat with faux fur around the hood, she's caught me a couple of times with it in my mouth. Oh not to mention going after Dad's leg or ankle, and he's not very happy about that either;just all in a days adventure. So you see, I still need supervision. Ruby, like you, the vet's office approximated the month when I was born at my first appointment, and Mom & Dad picked Oct 12th so I will be 2 this year; but I've been in the terrible two's for months already. Oh yeah, the Pats won yesterday, yeah!!!!Zoe, don't feel bad, Mom closes the doors on me too. It's off limits but when I do get in, I might come out with something, then she tries to catch me. Hi Rebel, Dudley Do Right, Abby, James Dean, Kitty, Kirby Bear, Chloe, Molly, Jake, Martha, Lucy & Riley-hope everyone is doing well. Have a good night everyone.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Good job, Francesca Baby! Someone has to take care of creepy things that do not belong in houses. I will, however, advise you not to eat those Japanese beetle things that look like lady bugs; they are very, very bitter.
As for birthdays; I will be 11 on April 17, Millie turns 11 on Bastille Day: July 14, and Roxy will be 2 sometime next September, I am having trouble remembering the day but I THINK it is the 19th.
