Our Terrace Garden Gets Covered in Burlap
Posted by F&S
Getting the farm ready for winter is a daunting job. So many things need to be stored away and so many plants and garden ornaments are covered with burlap. We've watched the farm crew do these things year after year, but it's always amazing to see. We're just glad that they are so capable and have so much energy!
1 Franny, the farm is in the process of being covered by yards and yards of burlap protection for the winter.
2 You're right, Sharkey. Martha takes this winter burlapping very seriously. Everything that can be damaged by the snow and frigid winds is covered over.
3 The crew used bamboo for the boxwood hedges, but I suppose this terrace garden requires a different type of structure. It looks like they're using some of Dominick's farm-made lumber.
4 They seem to be using a circular saw for cutting the lumber.
5 Chhiring, don't you dare turn that saw on with me standing here. I need a pair of safety glasses!
6 Sharkey, it looks like they're also using a power drill for their building project to screw all of the pieces together. What's important is that it's built to last.
7 This structure certainly looks complicated and every year it seems to be built differently. I suppose what matters in the end is that the teucrium, miniature boxwood, and the golden barberry are covered snugly for the winter.
8 Phurba, with all of your burlap experience, you have become a master sewer. Great job!
