Riding on Jane's Carousel

Posted by F&S

This past weekend, we Frenchies and G.K. went to Brooklyn Bridge Park with Uncle Carlos.  This is where the fantastic Jane's Carousel is located.  If you love riding on carousels, as we do, this one can't be beat!

I think we should go for a little ride on the carousel.

Hoist me up, Uncle Carlos!

Whoa! Riding this horse going up and down is a bit hair-raising!

Carlos, I think I see a better seat for me.

Yes, now this is more like it. Even though there are 48 exquisitely carved and painted horses, I prefer riding in one of the wonderful chariots.

Sharkey, did you know that this carousel was nearly destroyed in Hurricane Sandy? The river water rose so high that it completely surrounded the pavilion.

The owners watched from their nearby apartment in horror as waves crashed against it.

The water actually covered the floor of the carousel and all of the electronics beneath.

Miraculously, and a very good thing for all of those who love it, Jane's Carousel dried up nicely and was up and running lickity split!

  • Thanks for letting me know the outcome of the carousel. I wondered if it had survived the storm. I am so glad that this wonderful piece of New York history is still around.

  • Hello everyone,
What a beauitful carousel. The people that enjoy it are very lucky that the damage was not permanent to the electrical wiring and the floor. GK, you look handsome as usual. It is nice to see Uncle Carlos again also.
Well gang, after reading some of the comments from yesterday, some of us were good, some were in trouble. Same old, same old. hehehehehehe
Karen is going to get in contact with Dr. Pia to find out when and what kind of pictures she wants of us Glue Squad members. As soon as she finds out she will post something.
I will try to check back later.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good morning everybody,
Boy, does that look like fun! I think...anyway, it is great to see this beautiful merry go round survived such a powerful storm. The folks that take care of it and the children that enjoy it can feel secure with the knowledge that the carousel is well protected by the building.
Hey, Maddox, I'm going to look back at yesterday's posts. Was Zoe involved? hehehe..
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello Ladies, G.K. and Glue Squad Buddies,
So good to see you all having a play day with Uncle Carlos. Especially that the beautiful carousel was not damaged by Sandy permanently. The weather looks nice, although you are wearing your fall jackets. Of course, handsome G.K. is comfortable without a jacket. Hey guys, Maddox told me when I was e-mailing Karen about being our "Dr.Pia" contact that it is her birthday tomorrow. He said she misses her son, and maybe we could all surprise her with birthday wishes tomorrow. Well, everybody have a great Wednesday, and if you can't be good, at least be safe. Hehehehe as Maddox says.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Morning Girls, GK & Glue Squad, Riding the carousel looks like so much fun. The colors & detail on the rides are beautiful. GK, hope you weren't getting tired in #3 before the fun started. All of you look so regal riding the chariot;it appears you enjoyed the ride as much as Uncle Carlos. Hi Uncle Carlos.

The sun is shining, cool temps and nice day to be outside; but don't want to miss anything inside either.

Lynn, Mom is excited for you & Will - keep us posted on the new addition{s} :) , enjoy your get away. Hi Delia, Gail & Sonya. Greetings to Maddox, Rebel, Dudley Do Right, Zoe, Abby & James Dean, Kitty, Zoe, Kirby Bear.

Thanks Karen for being our "Dr Pia" contact.

    Have a great day.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Good Morning GK, F & S and the entire Glue Squad :)

Looks like the 3 of you had a fun time on the carousel - I think I would get dizzy. I'm going to guess that Martha and Kevin were there with the grandkids I think I spotted them in one of the pictures. So tell me do your kids eat cheese curls? If they do follow the little buggers around and wait for droppings.

So what did I miss - Dr. Pia wants pictures of the Glue Squad? How the hell did I miss that?? Mom is slipping - she didn't check prior posts!!! Please fill me in.

It's a beautiful day here in South Jersey a little nip in the air with the sun out in full force. I think there may be a snooze on the deck this afternoon.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, I was so hoping to see GK again and how great it is that he and Uncle Carlos are both in today's blog! This makes me even happier! When I saw photos #5&6 it looked like maybe Kevin Sharkey and Martha were with you, too! What a fun place to visit and so glad it is safe after Sandy Hurricane! Was great to hear from Maddox, Rebel, Lynn, and Missy Chow already today and will check back to hear from the rest of our buddies! We have a bit of rain, but it's still in the 50s right now! Hope all of you have a great day and stay safe! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Oh My gosh you Lucky dogs!I love these carved horses, they are in the style of John Zalar and Frank Carretta some of my favorites...I have many fond memories of riding Carousels, mostly at Playland in San Francisco. These Carousel Horses at Jane's are exquisite! I hope someday to visit them. I'm glad they got saved from the a storm.

My Glue Squad friends, fury and human 'Greetings' for this hump-day!
Lynn I also thought of Karen when Dr. Pia asked for help on these photos assembly project...sorry I just don't have the time..

    delia & Kitty ~^. .^~

  • Raven Baby, thank you for telling us the story of that carousel and especially that it is alright after the terrible storm! You all looked like you were having a lot of fun with Uncle Carlos and riding on it.
Miss Lynn, we are getting very excited for you and cannot wait to hear!!!! And speaking of exciting-- Millie and I are going to be getting a new sister NEXT WEEK! Mom is leaving right after work on Sunday night to go and pick her up. But we are having a hard time thinking of a name, so if anyone has any good ideas for a name for a Frenchie girl please let me know.
I hope everyone has a good rest of the week, if I don't get a chance to talk again.

  • Aw, it's great to see Uncle C back in the mix! :)

I agree, what a beautiful carousel!

Did you grab the brass ring? :)

Oh dear, I didn't realize it was in Sandy's path. Frightening for sure.

Glad, not much damage was done.

I bet it's beautiful lit up at night...

  • Hi everyone! Ladies and G.K. that carousel looks like so much fun. Sharkey you looked a little scared up on the horse. Guess that was different than your beautiful Friesens at home on the farm.

G.K. how was your birthday celebrations? Hope you had a great time. I hope everyone is feeling strong and happy, have a wonderful day!

  • Hi Martha, Oh my I'm so glad that the water didn't destroy this beautiful carousel. This looks just like the one at Idlewild Park in Ligonier, Pa. my home town. It is very old & made by the Phil. taboggon Co. also. Thanks for sharing all your very intersting blogs.

  • Such fun pictures! I would call it a Christmas card.
Uncle Carlos you look fabulous. A name suggestion for a female Frenchie . . Annick Goutal the french Perfume.
When I was in Paris I went there to learn the Frenchie is their Mascot. Oh so cute the Frenchie is holding a bunch of ballons in the window. Good Luck JuneBug Randy's Mom.

  • Thank you for the suggestion, JuneBug! Annick would be a very pretty name, Mom says she will put it on the list.
