Picking up Two New Fig Trees!

Posted by Francesca

Today on Martha's blog, she posted a lot of photos taken at an estate sale in Connecticut.  She told Uncle Carlos to drive the van and pick something up.  So, we all piled in and drove to the sale.

Well, here we are at an estate sale and I wonder what we're supposed to be picking up for Martha?

Wow! It's a potted fig tree. One can never have too many fig trees.

Say, you, in the plaid jacket! I know who you are!

It's always fun visiting Jim's store because he tells the funniest jokes. Carlos certainly had a good laugh at this estate sale.

Like I said, one can never have enough fig trees. Here comes another! Figs have been grown since ancient times and they even grow wild in dry sunny areas. Their fruit is highly prized and is eaten fresh and dried.

Jim, it was very nice of you to think of Martha when you saw these fig trees. We'll be sure that they go into the greenhouse for the winter. They would never survive our harsh northern climate.

Jim, why don't you come and visit us at the farm next summer? Maybe you can even eat some figs!

  • Hi everyone,
Fig trees!!!!! Hmmm. How many trees did you pick up? Did you get them back to the farm all safe and sound? GK, did you help to get the trees into the van? I guess you will be very busy getting things ready for Thanksgiving. Will you be entertaining little Jude and Truman? If so, I bet that will be real fun for them and you.
Well, I am going back to bed. I will check in again in the morning.
    Love,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

Like mom said you can never have too many figs - she just LOVES them. She has been wanting a tree maybe I'll surprise her this spring with one maybe mother's day.

Another early morning for me today mom is up and heading to work early again. Last night I helped her with the turkey brine and we got the 2 big birds in their bag and soaking. We also made the cranberry sauce which came out YUMMY - mom and I had a taste it was good.

F & S remember if the grandkids come for Thanksgiving dinner hang out under their chairs - you'll be amazed how much food will come your way :)

I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy your family, friends and especially your pets.

  • Hello Ladies, G.K., & Glue Squad Buddies,
I have been reading the last few days posts since our little mountain trip and catching up. Seems all are doing well. I loved the yoga---you should be an instructor Sharkey, you are terrific. Love to hear how everyone is getting prepared for Thanksgiving. These new fig trees will be great for the holidays next year for sure. Looks like everyone had fun on this trip. Delia, Happy late 49th anniversay. Wow, that is terrific. Seems Maddox you have been busy thinking. Hugs to you big boy, and Rebel, sounds like you are feeling better especially with that yummy tapioca salad on the way from Mimi. Send the rain our way. The mountains were beautiful, but way under snowfall for this time of year. Only snow on the ski slopes is man made. Zoe, I know Mom will cook up a deluxe turkey day dinner--sounds like she is a great chef. And Dudley, you and your mom and uncles will have a "party." Have fun. Abby, know your time at Grandma and Grandpa's will be great, with you getting well they will have a lot to give thanks for. Missy Chow and Kirby, sounds like things are busy your way also. And dear Cora Belle, please be safe in the storm, I pray. I give thanks for all of my Glue Squad Buddies, and hope soon I will have a second generation Glue Squad puppy to introduce you to. Enjoy turkey day all!!
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Good morning ladies & G.K.,
This is may be post #2. I got nuts and pressed a key & you all disappeared. Anyway, those are great trees! Wonder where they will show up in the Spring?
Did you wear your seat belts when riding in the van? That passenger is way up high & the floor is so hard.
Yesterday was experiment day in the kitchen. Our Thanksgiving is small this year so Mimi bought a hen. Needless to say, she won't hold as much stuffing as a Tom & we love leftovers! So, after work Mimi made a new style stuffing in a casserole & boy, was it successful. We also made the dinner rolls. Today is apple day, pie-wise and sauce-wise and of course more stuffing for the bird.
I am thankful for my family, Dr Becky and especially for this blog (you girls feel like friends)and my Glue Squad buddies. Hope you all have a yummy and safe Thanksgiving Day. Oh, Happy 49th Delia, that's a "wow"!
    Your Pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Well today’s the day; my Mommy starts cooking for Thanksgiving. Mommy and Daddy will be going to visit tomorrow but Mommy is still cooking a turkey; just have to get those leftovers. I guess turkey is almost my favorite thing in the whole world to eat. Makes me sleepy and I snore a lot when in a deep sleep. It makes me do something else; that’s when I have to go outside. Mommy says I smell up the house. Anyway, have a great, and safe, Thanksgiving all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, OMG! How fun it is to see all three of you favorite buddies going to pick up those fig trees with Uncle Carlos! OOPS! Mom just commented on Martha's blog a few minutes ago and she made a mistake about uncle Carlos' name and called him Uncle Charlie! Anyway, it was fun to see these photos and how fun that GK remembered Jim Klinko who saved these fig trees for Martha! How nice that you will put them in the greenhouse! Sure hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow! WOW! It was so great to hear from Maddox, Zoe, Lynn, Rebel, Missy Chow, and Kirby already this morning and your Thanksgiving times sound fabulous! Can't wait to hear from the rest of you Glue Squad buddies and will check back later! Lynn, we are getting lots of rain and wind so I can send you some! Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving Day tomorrow! Love, Dudley Do Right and Jan XOXOXO+

  • "Bring us some 'figgy' pudding"...

    Oops, I mean a figgy tree! :)

More trees to plant! I've never eaten a fig before. Or Fig Newtons. If it isn't drenched in chocolate, I skip it! :)

Holiday wishes to all the furry friends on the farm!

  • I'm so sorry, in my earlier post, I missed Cora Belle, give me, my friend :( How could I do such a thing. I bad !!!! I was getting excited to think that I might be helping Mom in the kitchen today; but so far, no luck...

Hope you, Lucinda, & James have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    Till next time.

  • Hi fellow glue squaders..yikes, about 10 miles from our house on the Naselle Ridge the wind blew 114 mph..a tree fell on a State patrol car ..all sorts of excitement....everything here at the farm/ranch is fine..no apology needed Missy Chow..hard to remember sometimes..this old girl forgets all the time and so do James and Lucinda..we are just three old gomers!..Hope you all help your people by getting morsels off the floor as soon as they land..there will just be the 3 of us..but it looks Lucinda is cooking for an army..she says you never know who might pop by or might be in need in the neighborhood for a plate of food and is too proud to let anyone know..we have a couple people on our list that receive a mystery plate..so all my dog buddies and people have a really nice Thanksgiving..I know I am really thankful for all you being my friend..love, Cora-Belle, the cattledog

  • I love Fig trees they are so decorative! what good pups you all are, helping. :-)
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving at the Stewart Household, and all the people working on these blogs...many Thanks!
