Finding love and being found to love and be loved, are among the many gifts that a rescued companion animal rewards to those who find their new best friend through adoption. For a loyal companion animal to go lost or without a home is what we animal lovers work hard to avoid. Educating others on the plight of these lovable souls and getting them seen by potential adopters is something they cannot do without our help.

For Part II of our 'happily ever after' adoption photos, be sure to check out the Daily Wag (DW) this Thursday.

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

We are thrilled here at the DW to be invited again to participate in Petside's yearly blog event! We join many other amazing bloggers offering great information on this year's chosen topic, ADOPTION- A topic we showcase here each week with advice from our only human contributing writer, Dr. Pia Salk- psychologist, animal welfare expert and spokesperson for Adopt-a-Pet.com.

  • Hello Everyone,
Ruby here and things are going great. I love this post about all the kids like me that got adopted. Almost a week now, and I am settling in great. Trust is the main thing we are working on. I love them and my family loves me, but I am still scared they will leave me. I hate doors, just hate'em, hate 'em, hate 'em. Dad is trying real hard to show me he always comes back by going in and out to the garage lots. I paniced on Thanksgiving when he went to get ice and Mom was just in the bathroom. It brought me back to the old Ruby times when I had to fend for myself, and up on the counter and half of Thanksgiving dressing was gone. When Mom arrived in a matter of seconds I soon realized she wasn't gone and I didn't have to get the food. What was done was done, and Mom was not upset, but glad she made a double recipe. I left one pan for the family. I was glad she wasn't mad and things were good again. This never happens. So I am worried about them leaving me, and they are worried about me leaving them and jumping a fence. I haven't even tried, gosh Mom, I am good. I looooooove pencils, knitting needles and to t.p. the house in Mom's yarn. I saw my first few snow flakes yesterday and we had a short fire in the fireplace. That was fun. I like cool rooms, better than hot though. Hey Glue Squad and fellow adoptees, give Ruby girl any advise---please. Oh, and I have gained weight already. Getting 3 meals a day, and loving it. Well everyone, have a "gem" of a day.
    Love your RUBY girl

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you again Dr. Pia. It’s really good of you to be making the postings; look forward to more. As most all of you know, I’m not adopted from some adoption place. Instead I was adopted by my Mommy and Daddy and left my mother and father. Wow, what a good move that was. Some of my brothers and sisters didn’t go to good homes like I did. I’m just one of the family and get to travel lots. Been around most of the U.S. and am looking forward to more travel. I am getting older and traveling sure can be hard on us older animals. After about an hour, I want to be arriving at our destination. Are we there yet? Hehehehehe
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Oh WOW what great Loving photos of pets that came into peoples hearts...
Ruby hang in there, all will work out with time...just don't let mommie Lynn stroke and sooth you when a door slams, because you will think by getting scared that's how you get lovin for loud door slams...go to mommie on your own and get lovin.

Ding-Dong...Radon man is here to fix our Radon machine...just as I thought, a squirrel fell down the pipe and got grounded up in the fan shutting it down...poor squirrel, but it's costing me money to have a new unit put in :-(
Seems that just before Xmas many things happen that need to be repaired..
    Hugs to all,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi Dr Pia,
It warms this little chihuahua heart to see these friends have found homes. I like your picture, of course, but I liked to look at Wilson getting a car ride home. I don't remember, but Mimi says I was very timid & scared for my long ride to Illinois. It's all good now (as you all well know).
Hey, Ruby girl. It will be alright. Now, maybe Lynn can put just a little hamburger in with your dog food. You really need to stay off the countertops though. Only Kitties are allowed up there, sweetie. I don't like closed doors either. I bang them with my little head & scratch with my little paws until they open up. I'm really good at opening bi-fold doors. LOL I don't do t.p. cause I'm too short, but oooh, is that a kleenex or hankie? I'm on them like white on rice. I'm so glad you're gaining weight! That means you're a good eater. When your tummy is happy, your brain works better, right? Maybe you'll have to go to the bathroom with Mom for a while. Mimi used to sing a good morning song to me & then she taught me to look outside & watch Papa go to work each morning. And Papa made sure that I had a job to do, I help him get the paper in every morning. Keep up the good work.
    Til tomorrow
    Your pal
    Rebel

  • Hi Dr. Pia and Minnow, These photos and information you shared today are fabulous and Mom and I are so happy to see such lovely, lucky babies who have new super homes with loveable families! You reminded me of my being adopted by my Mom and my animal Mom Cricket! My life has been super ever since and I hope lots more animals get adopted ASAP! Ruby, it was so great to hear from you today and I'm sure you will learn so many new things from Mom and Dad as time goes by! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Will check back later to hear from more of you! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Dr.Pia, Minnow, RUBY!!
Hey thanks for reminding people of the importance of adopting your fur children through the rescue groups. Many, many of us glue squad members are in forever homes after being rescued. I loved the picture of Dr.Pia snuggling with Luna. Ruby, are you related to Luna?? Just thought since you were both so pretty in photos.
Zoe, are you staying indoors with this eastern snow storm? I really don't like getting my paws all wet and I have to wear my pink fleece jacket all the time. Lynn, you would love the winter wonderland out there. Fortunately for commuters it might not accumulate too much.
Cora belle, are you wearing your vest to keep warm? Where is Maddox who likes to wonder about life and plans glue squad adventures? Dudley, did you get any turkey dinner? Kitty, Jimmy sends you lots of purrs.
Well- off to cuddle with my grandpa.
Ruby, doors can be scary so keep your tail safe. Our families go outside but it is great when they come back!! Then we can wag our tails, do a happy dance and welcome them home!!
Love, woofs and purrs to my friends- Abby and Explorer Jimmy

  • Thanks so much for all you do on behalf of shelter animals Dr. Pia - and thanks for the shout out for HeARTs Speak! Cheers!

  • ..hi everybody..I really like the guinea pig..reminds me of my old pal, the Quigley...I have an upset tummy today..of course, Lucinda and James are hoovering over me..back off..I"ll eat some grass and feel better shortly..Ruby, glad to hear you settling in..a little counter surfing never hurts!..Where is our pal, Maddox?..Good job Rebel helping your dad get the paper, I am a helper too..oh, guess what...Ivan and Ivanka are coming by later today, they are the big shepherds that moved into the farm/ranch where the chiweenies used to live..speaking of the chiweenies, they are doing fine in their apartment in the city..and have a dog walker..goofy chiweenies!...now the shepherds are a rough and tumble bunch..but I just bite them if they annoy me too much..and they race off..must get rested before they get here..over and out..Cora-Belle

  • Thanks Dr. Pia for always remembering the shelter pets and other animals in need of a good loving home.

Ah sweet lil' Ruby. You must have been taking advice from Zoe on T.P. fun. Your Mom and Dad love you very much and want to make you as safe and happy as possible. They will never leave you behind.

    Brrrrrr! in Chicago today!

  • Hi Dr. Pia and Glue Squad! It is always good to be reminded about shelter and rescue pets, and especially this time of season. My sisty Millie was a rescue, and Mom works a lot for French Bulldog Rescue Network. I was lucky, lucky, lucky, because I have always lived somewhere that I was wanted, so I think it is important for dogs like me to pay it forward and help other dogs.
Roxy is doing a very good job learning the ropes here. She is not so good with pee and poo, though. She sorta knows what she is supposed to do, but not all the time every time. Mom has signed her up for a class to learn some other manners and maybe she'll get some tips on how to get Roxy to know that outside is the place to do her busines. Mom says we need to be patient and that the lightbulb will go off. I don't know what lightbulbs have to do with it, unles I am to bonk Roxy over the head with one the next time she poos in the kitchen?

  • Oh No Rebel...Kitty in our house is never allowed on tables...hope Kitty doesn't read this because then she thinks I have to let her like MS's cats. Kitty is also good at opening thri-fold closet doors...at night we have to open them just enough for her to get in although she never goes in, but if they are closed she scratches to open....Geesh!
Kitty adopted us and came into our lives and hearts...we are so Thankful!
