Chasing a Squirrel Again!

Posted by Francesca

It's no secret that we Frenchies love to chase squirrels.  This autumn, there are so many of those critters all over the farm - a real population explosion.  We like to feet our feathered friends and those squirrels really take advantage of the situation.

I chased a squirrel right into this big hole in this apple tree! There's a bird feeder nearby and the squirrel has been eating the seeds!

You're right, Sharkey! It's too dark to see him, but I can certainly smell the critter!

Hmm, it smells like a common gray squirrel, right Franny? They don't hibernate in the winter like many other animals. But they often take shelter inside hollow tree trunks to stay warm and to stay near a food source.

Hey, squirrel!!! Come out of there! You're eating all the birdseed. You know, there's no such thing as a free lunch around here!

Maybe if we both shove our heads inside the hole at the same time...

Wait, Sharkey! There's a hole at the top of the tree, too!

Say, I have an idea...let's flank him! You stay down at the bottom and I'll just jump up to that one. He'll have nowhere to go!

One, two, three - jump! Such athleticism!

Aw, come on, darling sweet little squirrel! We just want to play with you!

Franny, I'm beginning to feel like a foolish Frenchie. I think we've been had by that squirrel. I think he used that top hole as a back door and now, he's outta here! Probably sitting in another tree laughing at us!

  • Good morning everyone,
You girls are so funny. I agree, I think the squirrel went out the top and is sitting in another tree with am I phone and he is doing a video of you to show the other squirrels. hehehehehehe
How is everyone? I missed all of you so much and I worried about our Glue Squad members on the east coast. Those poor people that lost their homes, that is awful. And so many people are still without power. Sarah was not nice at all.
Well, I guess I just have to come back later to see what everyone has been up to. I can't wait so hurry up and post comments.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good morning ladies,
Boy, do I know about those stinker squirrels. Our bird feeder is up for the winter and the squirrels are up to no good at our house, too! I went outside with Papa yesterday and chased two of the rascals away. I'm secretly glad they come back because chasing them is so much fun.
Our office manager has vacation this week, so Mimi & I will be working a lot of hours.
Got through the time change o.k. but my tummy thought it was dinner time a whole hour early & I had to wait. I think I like the "spring ahead" better, how about you?
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hi Squirrely girls! :)

I think you are right about said squirrel. He's no doubt sitting high in a tree, munching on bird seed and snickering! :)

Poor gray squirrels must get darn chilly in Winter. How about enlisting Martha to knit sweaters to keep the critters toasty?

    Have a super Monday!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I just love to chase the squirrels too. They seem to be really smart for the most part. But there is one really dumb one which comes by about two times a week. He comes down by way of the roof. When I chase him, he heads back the same way. Now coming down he can jump onto the porch railing. But going up he has to jump up and try to grab hold of the roof overhang over the porch. He is unable to jump, twist his body and grab hold of the roof. He keeps falling into the bushes below. Now I’m smart enough to know that he will do this so I just head for the bushes below the porch railing. Then it’s a race to see who reaches the fence first. So far all I’ve been able to get is a few hairs off of his tail; but one day, one day.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hey, there you are, some of my good friends. Kirby you are funny too. I can just picture you sitting there with squirrel fur hanging out of your mouth. I am not much of a hunter. I do like hunting for treats but that is about it. Guess I am too lazy. Hehehehehe
Rebel, how is your coat coming along? Are you done with your shots? It is sogood yo hear from you guys again. Where are the rest of you? Time to report in. Let's go.
    Love,
    Maddox

Maddox, Rebel, Gail, and Kirby it was great to hear from you today finally and will check back to read more from the rest of you buddies! • Frenchie Squirrel Patrol! How does that apple tree still live with those large holes? Did anyone notice PHOTO #2 it looks like a huge Hogs mouth that Francesca has her head in...or is it just my artistic imagination??? :-)
I will be going into winter mode soon, I have to clean house from the inside out, meaning I have to get rid of my collections of whatever, and I mean whatever. My husband calls me an organized hoarder because all is packed in big plastic boxes with labels (you know the MS style ;-)
Kitty has been staying in a great deal because it dips down to the low 20's at night now in the day time she sleeps...we are all messed up with the time change including Kitty.

Hope all is well with our Glue Squad!

  • Hey there F & S and my Glue Squad buddies :)

I hate squirrels in fact I'm not fond of any of those outside varmits. They eat all the birdseed and destroy the feeds. T-Bone caught one and Precious chewed it apart it was pretty gross.

Maddox that woman that caused all the damage was named Sandy - Sandy the witch. She wasn't very nice I hope she never comes back.

We got lucky this time never lost power just had some tree limbs down. A few of the people that work for mom lost everything. Water was 4 feet high in their homes - very sad.

I hope everyone here at the DW is safe and starting to get back to normal.

    Zoe

  • Hi again,
I am just sooooooooo happy to read your comments today.
Everything is returning to normal. Lynn, where are you? I bet you are exhausted from your craft show. I hope it was very successful so you can get a new puppy
Abby, Dudley, James Dean, Delia, Gail and our special girl Cora-Belle, it put a big smile on my furry face to see you are all back and safe. Where is our TP Princess Zoe? She lives in Jersey. I hope she is safe.
I will sleep good tonight. My friends are back. Franny and Sharkey, you be careful around the farm with the branches all over.
    Until tomorrow,
    Maddox

  • I love these shots. My dog Butch just can't get enough of chasing those hairy rats invading his yard!
I shared a couple of shots on facebook and a couple more with my friends on pettogetto. Thanks for the morning chuckle guys!
