Polishing Beautiful Silver

Posted by F&S

Martha had a dinner party last night and there was a lot to do in preparation.  Chef Pierre came to cook the food and Laura Acuna set a beautiful table.  Of course, some of the silver needed polishing and we Frenchies always like to help with that chore.

Oh goody! Laura is cleaning Martha's silver. I've read that silver has a bad habit of tarnishing when it is exposed to air or water containing ozone or hydrogen sulfide.

Sharkey, grab a rag and let's help her out. I really LOVE shiny silver - I like to look at my reflection in it and admire my adorable face.

Martha only uses Wright's Silver Cream. The history of this stuff is really fascinating - apparently old Mr. Wright got the idea for this product when he found a cow stuck in mud.

He noticed that when he wiped the mud off the silver cow bell, the bell became shiny! That mud contained some really neat minerals that help to polish silver.

Hey Franny! Did you know that silver is going for $31.61 an ounce? We could sure sell this for some serious cash!

I think we should hold onto this silver service bell, however. After we sell the rest of the silver, we'll be so rich that we could hire our very own butler!

But Sharkey, I've got some other ideas for what we can use all this silver for.

I mean, who needs napkin rings when they can be melted down and turned into beautiful new silver collars?

Oh dream on, Franny. You know that Martha would be very unhappy with us. Let's just keep on polishing.

  • Good morning girls,
Wow, that silver looks beautiful. I sure the two of you did an excelkent job of cleaning it.
Recently they had a silver chow trophy on eBay that was worth a lot of money. It was made in the early 1920's. It was a huge bowl with 5 goblets. It had chow heads etched into it. A lady that has some of Karen's chows bought it and it is beautiful. She said if they would try to duplicate that trophy it would cost about $35,000. That is a lot of money. She is going to bring it to the house for Karen to see it. Speaking of trophies, Karen is going to Virginia this weekend to be presented with trophies that were retired by ME. To win them the same breeder has to win this big Chow Specialty 3 times, not necessarily with the same dog. I won that Specialty 3 consecutive times. Ah ha. See that GK, the old man still got it. Hehehehehe
Good good news everyone, check back to yesterday's blog. Our Cora-Belle is back. Waa Huu. You go girl. Lucibda, please pretty please send your email addy to Zoe's mom so she can send it to the rest of the Glue Squad and we can share pictures. Karen would love to see more pictures of Cora-Belle and all of you GS maniacs
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good Morning F & S

Hmmmm that silver sure would buy a lot of dog treats don't you think? My mom has no silver she hates to polish it and we don't have a Laura Lady living with us so regular dishes for us. I have to say it sure does look pretty :)

Dad wasn't too happy with me yesterday I chewed up a bunch of magazines then ran out back and hurled in the middle of the pool cover. He had to hook up the hose and squirt it all off so you can imagine he wasn't too happy with me. I sat out in the middle of the cover so he couldn't catch me - he got happy after a little while then I came back in the house ;)

Cora B - glad to hear from you I hope you are ok.

Back to bed for a snooze............

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Now I’ve been told that someone could be ‘in the doghouse’ at times. If you sell Martha’s silver, she most likely would put you two under the doghouse. Hehehehehe I tried helping my Mommy polish the silver one time. I have so much fur between my toes that I kept dropping the silver. Then it had to be cleaned all over again. I guess I’m a “watcher” not a polisher. I’m also good at naps which I’m going to practice right now.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, WOW! This information about silver is very fascinating and I love reading about so many great things from you girls everyday! Laura sure is a great helper there at Martha's home and so are you two plus GK!!!! We don't have any silver, but I love to help Mom everyday inside and outside-she always appreciates that! Maddox and Karen, you are 2 of the nicest friends we have and we love to read your comments everyday!! Maddox, I know you are superior and I am waiting for GK to win more awards, too! Zoe, you sure did make your Dad unhappy, but I'm so glad that he still loves you even if you do naughty stuff! Cora-Belle, I was thrilled to finally see that you are OK and resting well! • Hello Francesca, Sharkey, Maddox, Lynn, Super Dudley, Missy Chow and all my buddies-
What nice silver and you have to love the photo of Franny's paw polishing that silver with the "rag". Mom said we use Wright's silver polish too, she likes to polish the silver ware for Tahnksgiving dinner. It is fun she said to see the transformation.
    WELCOME BACK CORA BELLE!!!!
James Dean was really worried, now he can run and play with his stuffed mice again. Congratulations Maddox, you are very talented and deserve to be in the Chow Chow hall of fame. We are very proud of you and the trophies being retired is great.
Missy Chow, how nice you had a spa day! Your pictures were beautiful by the way.You are a very pretty blonde Chow Chow.
Another rainy day here, Mom is tired so will be working on crafts before work.
Hugs to Rebel, Dudley, Maddox, Baby Favor, Missy Chow, Kitty, Delia, Karen, Lynn, Sonya,Zoe, Cora belle, Franny, Sharkey and all- Abby (batgirl)

  • What a pain to clean silver! How nice of you two Frenchies to help, always getting right in there :-)

We have silver silverware that's been in the family for many years, they have our ~vM~ initials for ~von Meyer~ with a 7 point crown on top. I keep it in a large cloth that keeps the silver from turning, it still has places that need to be polished.

This morning I took my twin sis and her lavender-point Persian cat named Chanel to the Vet for matted fur removal(shaved)The roads where a mess with construction it took me for ever to find a way to get to the clinic with all new roads and no names. My sis was a nervous wreck, making the cat nervous, so I told sis I'd pick up Chanel without her..he he ;-)
I saw last night that Cora Belle posted saying she was OK...Halleluiah! :-)

Kitty is napping, she went out at 4:30am this morning enjoying the 60 degree night...that all changes tomorrow...yuck!

So fellow Glue Squatters, till tomorrow...
    delia & Kitty =^, ,^=

  • Crime does not pay! :)

    Mitts off the silver.

What a cute story about the cow in the mud and the bell shining right up.

Good of you to help Laura. What a laborious task to shine silver.

I'll stick with plastic cutlery. :)

    Have a super Silvery Wednesday...

  • Hi Girls, Lynn, Delia, Sonya, Maddox, Abby, James Dean, Kirby Bear, Zoe, Dudley Do Right, Rebel and especially, Cora Belle, so glad you are okay. Silver polishing is a job that needs to be done; and someone needs to do it, right?? Might I say you girls have done an excellent job.

Zoe, don't feel too bad, I've had my share of "nibbling" on a couple of magazines here and there as well as the Sunday comics from time to time. I got a hold of Dad's check register yesterday and he came running after me to get it back-Dad [1} - Missy Chow [0}. Maddox - congratulations to you and Karen on your Chow Specialty wins.

Mom's cooking squash-could that mean turkey for dinner?? Yes!!!! ;) Think Mom may also be sending a new picture or two of "someone" soon.

    Have a great Wednesday,

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • Hello Ladies & Glue Squad Buddies,
Late today posting, as I am a busy crafter bee. Love seeing everyone else cleaning that silver. I HATE to clean silver so bad we returned any we got for a wedding gift and got pewter. You girls and Laura are a great team though. Mama Martha's silver looks beautiful thanks to you all. I am so glad Miss Cora Belle, to hear from you. I remembered that Rototiler was coming and thought you might be resting for the visit. James will have to go get some Maple Bars for all of you when they come into town. Better get back to my pricing. Snow is moving in soon. Thinking of all of you and loving your photos. Congrats to Maddox and Karen on the awards. Maddox you are the dude for sure and Karen is the best. You two are a top team. Have a great evening all.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn
