Playing in Autumn Leaves

Posted by F&S

We don't know about where you live, but here in the northeast, we are in full swing of autumn.  Of course, that means chilly weather and lots of leaves dropping.  Leaves play an important role at the farm, as they are gathered up for compost, which is always in high demand around here.  But leaves can be  just plain fun, as well!

Sharkey, every day more and more leaves fall to the ground.

Well Francesca, I guess that's why they call it fall!

What happens with all of these fallen leaves?

Well Sharkey, I've seen the guys haul truckloads of leaves up to the compost area. Martha told me that leaves are excellent for creating rich compost for the farm. As you know, we try not to waste anything here!

Look what I found, a leaf blower. What do you say I have a go with it?

Let's see here - this big tube is where the air blows out.

And this handle controls the direction of the tube. Seems easy enough.

And last but not least - ear protection! All set to blow!

There! I blew myself a nice pile of leaves. Now I get to bask in it. The leaves are so soft and great smelling.

I wonder where Francesca disappeared to?

I thought we would play in this pile together.

Surprise, Sharkey! I was hiding in the leaves all along! This sure is fun!

  • Good Morning F & S

I'm back! Mom and Dad finally saved us from Super Nanny. Boy that was a week from hell. She thought she would train me not to attack T-Bone as we run out the back door to play - ughhhh. She had that darn squirt bottle out which I hate - so I stopped while she was here. Sunday morning I was right back to my old ways ;)

F & S I love the Halloween costumes - have you decided what you'll wear for the big day? Mom got me a scarf with pumpkins and bells on it I guess she thinks I'll wear that - NOT.... I love when the little buggers knock at the door I try to run out and play with them. Dad hates Halloween because every time the door bell rings we all bark so as you can imagine it's a very loud night at our house.

Mom received a big box from Lynn before she left with all her Christmas cards. I'll tell ya that Lynn is a pretty good card maker oh and the biscuts are to die for!!! Mom put in an order for Christmas gifts for our dog cousins but I think she needs to reorder - we did a job on them while she was away - YUMMY!!!

Well my computer time is over for the morning mom is heading to the office early. I'll try and catch up reading all the posts from last week later.

  • Good morning girls,
That sure looks like fun. You would have to use pretty many leaves to hide GK
Well, today Zoe should be back. Rebel is gone this week. He is visiting with his Dr. Becky while Mimi and Papa visit the Grand Canyon. And hopefully, our special lady Cora Belle will be back today as well
I am going to the deck before it rains. It is very cool right now. 47 degrees, my kind of temperature. Waa Huu. Makes me frisky.
    I will check back later
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello Ladies & Glue Squad Buddies,
Fall, fall, I just love Fall. Looks like the 2 of you are having the best time. Never a loss for leaves are your house. Very clever Franny hiding in the pile from Sharkey. You 2 are the fun patrol for sure. I almost got grounded big time from my computer time. Friday I was looking at a puppy rescue, which I am doing regularly these days and this one little 8 week old gal just jumped out at me---a heeler/lab mix. I was headed almost out the door. Told Will we had to get her. Then reality hit---my busiest 2 weeks of the year is coming up the next 2 weeks, what with moving an entire 3 rooms of furniture to the garage and moving displays for my craft show in the house. Will reminded me it would not be right to bring a new family member into this hectic mess--would just plain scare her and we wouldn't have time much for her, so..... The only computer time I am allowed until after the craft show in 2 weeks is The Daily Wag and a few friends. Will said he was going to put parental controls on all the dog rescues for 2 weeks. See, I tried really hard Cora Belle, to be naughty. It didn't get me far though. Have a great Monday--snow coming this week here.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Into each life a little “leaves” must fall. Somehow that doesn’t sound right. I know, it should be rain. We have some of that in the fall too, but not this past weekend. Not a drop of rain both days. That’s a good thing because there was so much going in town. I stayed at home and soaked up some sunshine. It was cool in the mornings and I got some back porch time and lots of naps. Naps are one thing I am really good at. I’m a fast runner too but my age is slowing me down a little; maybe the squirrels are getting faster. Yep, that’s it; squirrels are getting faster. I think I’ll have a nap until the “big chase” later on today.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • That is so much fun rolling and playing in the leaves...Sharkey good thing you found Francesca...where is GK? If GK hid in the leaves he'd be hard to find, blending in. ;-)
Speaking of leaves, right now Kitty is dug-in in the huge boarder pile of leaves leading into the woods watching chippies and squirrels, you can barely see her.
Welcome back Zoe! and Rebel I do hope the issue with your skin problem will be resolved.
Yes indeed, Lynn is very talented! ;-) Lynn you will know just when to get a new dog, it was meant to be that your show is coming up and you can't get this dog right now, bet it will be there when you are through with the show and you can adopt her. :-)
Tomorrow I will post late because I have to make a trip to Madison for a doctor appointment.

    Till then,
    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Hey girls, you sure did have fun being outside on a fall day playing in those beautiful leaves!! Sharkey, you did a great job blowing up that big pile to play in and Franny, you must have had fun hiding in those leaves while Sharkey was looking for you! The two of you sure have fun together and teach us lots of great things! Thank you my sweethearts!! Zoe, sure glad you are rid of Super Nanny and back to your normal behavior! So glad to hear from you! Maddox, so glad you like that cool weather! It's 42 here right now and was only 60 degrees in our home yesterday morning so Mom made a great fire in our Kodiak Stove and it got up to 74 when we went to sleep last night! Lynn, I know you are very busy with your craft show coming up in 2 weeks, but I still hope you get a new dog ASAP! Kirby, glad you didn't have any rain and hope you have fun chasing those squirrels and getting your naps! Will check back later to hear from the rest of you great buddies! Hope all of you have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Franny, Sharkey, Dudley, Lynn, Zoe, Missy Chow, maddox and all my glue squad friends-
What great photos of Sharkey and Franny playing with the leaves! We have beautiful trees here too- yellow orange maple leaves that pro photographers are taking pictures of at the end of our yard. Where is G.K.? He would be hard to hide in the leaves.
Zoe, glad you are free of super nanny's powers, this might entail some t.p. decorating just to celebrate!
Delia, what fun Kitty must be having watching the chipmonks from her hiding spot in the leaf pile. Jimmy sends his purrs to Kitty.
Kirby, glad you had a nice time basking in the sunshine on the porch. Yesterday I was snoozing on the sunny deck here. Dudley, that kodiak stove sounds nice and warm. I cuddled with mom for a while last night while she watched "Upstairs, Downstairs". She is a little sore from the cross country race yesterday. Maddox, the colder weather makes me frisky too!
O.K. glue squad, what are all you wearing for Halloween? Zoe is not wearing her collar with bells. I am officially Batgirl!!! Mom has to adjust my costume a little but everyone loves it. I like the cape.
Lynn, we hope these next two weeks just fly by for you then you can research your new puppy! Mom, James Dean and I all send you hugs.
Well, Batgirl hopes that everyone has a great Monday. Off to the bat cave, love, Abby

  • "Leaf me alone" is what I say to the millions of leaves surrounding my house...

My home is surrounded by lots of trees, thus producing lots of beautiful foliage.

Beautiful to look at. Lousy to rake! :)

Thus, a crew of gardeners descends in late fall to do a thorough fall clean up.

Until then, I wade through the leaves.

I sometimes find squirrels playing hide and seek in the big leaf piles.

No doubt hiding their food for Winter time noshing!

  • Those leaves look like a lot of fun to play in ladies. Very cute Franny hiding from Sharkey like that? Wonder if G.K. was being sneaky in the leaves after all?

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

  • I just came back to check to see if Cora Belle posted and she didn't. I am very worried about her. I miss her posts.
    Maddox

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, Great job in helping with leaves, and the cleanup. It is that time of year, but the colors can be so beautiful and brillant. Sharkey, love the picture with you wearing your ear muffies, smart girl! Mom wears hers too when she helps Dad mow the lawn. Good thing you found Frannie in the leaves, you girls have such a fun time together.

Lynn, the next two weeks will fly and then you can go back checking for a new pup. It will be so exciting and we can't wait either :) Welcome back Zoe, bet your happy that Mom & Dad are back. Kirby, I spent alot of time outside today, weather was just delightful.

Hi to all my buddies, it's getting late and almost time for bed. Talk tomorrow :)

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo
