Paying a Visit to Clive, Rufus, and Billie, our Donkey Friends

Posted by F&S

You may recall hearing that Billie, our donkey friend, ate entirely too much green grass and, to put it politely, gained a few too many pounds.  As a consequence, she was developing a hoof problem.  To remedy the situation, tarps were put over the paddock to brown the grass, making it less enticing to eat, in hopes that poor Billie would lose all that added weight.

You know what, Franny? We haven't seen our friends the donkeys in quite some time. I wonder how Clive, Rufus, and Billie are faring?

Let's run down to their paddock and find out!

Well, here we are. You remember how the grass in the paddock was browned out because the donkeys were eating too much of it? And that Billie was actually developing fetlock hoof issues because of her weight gain?

I see plenty of browned out grass, but where are the donks?

I think I know, Francesca.

Follow me into the stables!

Just as I suspected. The donks are in their very comfy stall. Hey Clive, we were wondering how Billie is doing on her new diet regimen?

Sharkey, I think that I, Billy, am best qualified to answer that question. I've been told that I have become narrower in girth and that my fetlock issues are disappearing.

Francesca - The news seems to be good!

Clive, I know you're always looking after Billie and Rufus, but I'd really like to see for myself, if you don't mind.

Wow, Billie! I can definitely see a big improvement! Good work!

Sharkey, it's amazing what good diet and exercise can achieve. There's nothing like a clean bill of health!

  • Good morning ladies,
Boy, this is just what I needed, a happy visit with our good friend, Clive, Rufus & Billie.
I'm so glad the Billie's hoof is healing.
I've put on a little weight lately. I haven't been very active. I guess I've had one too many treats at my pill time.
It's really early, so I'll check in later to see how everybody is doing. Gonna be a sunny day here! It's so warm & comforting. Maybe a little outside nap is in order this afternoon.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Good Morning F & S

I'm going to share the good news about Billie with Sophie. She went for her checkup Saturday and needs to drop a few pounds. She tipped the scale at 77 pounds and needs to drop around 5. She gets fed the right amount of food but Sophie along with T-Bone are always stealing things from the counter. Mom and Dad get SO mad!! Maybe when I tell her about Billie she'll get motivated.

Well I had a wonderful long weekend. Mom and Dad were home most of the time and I was in heaven until I heard the name Super Nanny come up in the same sentence as vacation :( I think they are going away next week and haven't told us yet - I'll have to be on the lookout for the suitcase - I sure hope I'm wrong.

  • Good morning everyone,
I am so glad that Billie is much better. Thank you girls for updatung us on the donks. Hqa, wait till Gail gets on and sees the donks. She will be very happy. It is funny. Martha has such an assortment of pets so we have all different kinds of animals locvers on here. Birds, cats, chickens, donks, and sometimes she has animals as guests that visit for a while. Karen said she had some kind of little cows, forgive me for not knowing exactly what they were. But they were visiting for a while and then the lady "cow" got pregnant and the people that own them were so happy. Anyway, my point is she has a big variety of animals and flowers and such on the farm that there is something of special interest for many.
Rebel, you poor thing. I read your comment on the last post. I am sorry you don't feel well and you are losing more of your coat. But, it will grow back after you are better and maybe Lucinda could make a sweater vest for you like she did for Cora-Belle, but on a smaller scale. Abby, I hope your mom enjoys herself in New Jersey. Speaking of Jersey, where are you Zoe? Same for you Cora-Belle. Pam, it was good to see you posted over the weekend. How are you doing?
Well, Lynn, Kirby, Dudley, Delia and Kitty and all the rest of the Glue Squad, I can't wait to hear what you did over the long weekend.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You two sweet girls sure did a fabulous job taking all of us to see how Martha's donkeys are doing! Thank God they are in the stable and I am so happy to see that Billie is doing so much better! She looked great and so did Clive and Rufus! You girls sure do have fun checking on all of your friends and would love to see how your handsome brother, GK is doing! I'm sure you also enjoy having Martha back from her trip to London! Rebel, my heart and prayers go out to you-sure hope you get better real soon! You did sound better this morning and hope you enjoy the sunshine today! Zoe, sure hope Sophie can lose weight like Billie has! Hope Mom and Dad stay with you like they did this weekend-stay safe! Maddox, I agree that Gail will enjoy this blog because she loves donks! Martha is a superb animal lover and all of her animals are so lucky to be with her! We had a busy weekend because Mom and uncle Tim moved 6 of Mom's big tomato plants that aren't all ripe yet into her small greenhouse! I helped all I could and they are doing well even thought some are still green! Hope all of you have a wonderful day and will check back to hear from the rest of you buddies! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I know what some of those letters mean, like TGIF and OHIM; but what does one put for Tuesday being the first day of the week? It would have to be something that says that I made it through the long weekend. Not everyone celebrated Columbus Day with a day off. The newspaper celebrated by not putting the “funny” section in the paper. Today yesterdays was put in with today’s paper. It took me a while to read them all, but I got it done. Some were very funny and I’m glad I didn’t miss any of them. There was one “funny” that had an “app” for an I-phone that would let dogs smell treats. I’ll have to get Daddy to look for that “app” for me right away.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • F & S...that's wonderful that the donks Clive, Rufus, and Billie are doing better! I'm a bit confused about the fetlock situation, does this mean his weight made his fetlock go down and got sore, or did he have founder? anyway I hope the situation is remedied.
Maddox, Zoe and Rebel the early birds today...I didn't do too much, painted the new patio doors and then a fall painting for a card.
Kitty on the other hand has a new habit, a terrible one! She now leaves for the night, and when she comes home she has blood on her paws, not her blood but a critter meal blood. :-( She must have found a place that she keeps her eye on all night, because I can call and whistle and she just ignores me..although I found that taking her ceramic dish and tap with a spoon seems to make a difference once in a while...sure hope this stops soon.

Rebel I hope all is well, and for the rest of the Glue Squad too! :-)

    delia & Kitty =^. .^=

  • Great news that Billie is returning to her old self again. I always get a kick out of seeing you two crawling under the fences. You two always look like you're off to do something very important that can't be stopped.

Rebel, hang tough there little boy and get better soon. I hope everyone had a lovely Columbus Day weekend!

  • Hooray for the honky tonk donks! :)

    Three cheers for Billie!

I can't seem to lose any weight, maybe I should try the covering of my 'food' so I won't be tempted to graze non stop! :)

A clean bill of health is exactly what the doctor ordered!

  • Hello Ladies & all you Glue Squad Cuties,
This is so good that you visited the donkeys and gave us the update on Billie. Glad she has lost weight and the grazing problem is curbed. Will says that is my problem---too much grazing during the day.LOL!! Now dear sweet Rebel, I worry so on your recovery, but know Mimi, Papa and Dr. Becky are the best. I am just so glad the shots arrived. You have had 2 now--right? So wonderful Mimi is going to get you a nice t-shirt to keep you warm. Maddox, loved your cow story and Dudley, Mom can make Green Tomatoe Pickles if they don't ripen. We've even wrapped some in the past in newspaper when they are green and had them ripe on Thanksgiving. Abby, I have had an idea of how Mom and I and you can have our girl talk since the powers that be aren't getting us in touch with one another. Just say the name of the boarding place and clinic of Mom's and maybe there is a website and I can send you an S.O.S. through that site. Cora Belle, has your friend come to visit yet? And Kitty, if I showed you the camera of night happenings with raccoons, skunks and the cats you would be cuddled with Mama Delia and not going out. You stop worrying her, little lady---she loves you lots. Kirby, that app sounds pretty cool. You should make Daddy get you one for Christmas. Hehehehe as Maddox says. Pam from California, glad to hear from you and I know Gail will love this donkey post. Have a great day all. I wish you all were here while I am baking Warrior Prince Biscuits for the craft show. I would line you up on the hour for treats. Have a great Fall day.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Ok I try not to worry but sometimes I can't help it. Cora-Belle, where are you? Are you alright? Please post so I know everything is good
    Love to you,
    Maddox

  • ..I like hearing and seeing the donks..what cool little guys...this will be short as i need to rest..was coming in the house with James and stumbled and went down hard on my bad shoulder..cried and limped..so now I must rest..so Lucinda and James will calm down..there is talk of going to the vet, but I think a little rest is what I need..will check back later, love to all, Cora-Belle
