A Visit to the Japanese Maple Grove

Posted by Francesca

If you're a fan of Japanese Maple trees, then you most likely know that crisp autumn is when those beautiful trees put on an amazing display.  Our grove of trees, planted a few years ago, is growing very nicely.

It's a bit of a hike, but we're almost there.

Ah, yes, Franny. This was a good idea. The colors of those maples are amazing!

These trees are so magical. It seems that they change colors overnight!

I love Acer Palmatum 'Winter Flame' - so aptly named because its green leaves turn a vivd yellow and its bark becomes bright coral red in winter.

And I love Acer Palmatum 'Tamukeyama' - this is a lace-leaf maple that grows into a lovely umbrella shape - so nice for sitting under.

Acer Palmatum 'Osakazuki' - This famous cultivar is best known for its intense crimson fall color. It's really stunning.

  • Hello Ladies & Glue Squad Buddies,
Friday, Friday, how the week has flown by, my oh my. Girls you make my heart skip a beat seeing those beautiful Fall leaves in your yard. Someday I will see New England in the Fall. It is on my bucket list. The last photo is my fav with the leaf on your head Sharkey. In #1 Franny you look so stoick. Snow is falling again lightly. Cora Belle thank you for the information on the salmon in the water, never knew that. I want a report on Monday on everyones' Halloween costume. Won't the kids laugh when they come to our house and they see Christmas wreaths on the wall for the craft show the next day? They will think I don't know how to read a calendar. But we give out full size candy bars, so always expect a lot of kids. I have seen Abby's great batgirl costume, but am anxious to hear of the rest of your's. Have a great weekend all and have fun getting your tricks ready.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I love the fall with all those falling leaves. It keeps me busy just walking around and looking for those little lost things covered by the leaves. It’s a good thing that I have a good nose or I would loose some of my stuff. That’s what my Daddy calls it. Now, on the other hand, if it were his, then he wouldn’t be calling it stuff; they would be his prized collections. That’s what he calls it anyway. To me, it’s still stuff. The weekend is coming. Have a good, and safe, weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Good Morning F & S

I have a really big Japanese Maple in my front yard in fact my dad calls it his baby. It is really pretty especially this time of year it looks like it's on fire. He won't let the landscapers touch it he trims it himself.

I think our trick or treaters may be rained out next week we have a nor'easter coming up the coast. I hope it gets called off so I don't have to wear that stupid pumpkin collar with the bells on it - give me a break.

Abby I loved the picture of your batgirl costume. Remember anyone who wants to get on the email list send my mom your address - abrennan@coretitle.com

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Zoe

  • What wonderful colors of the Japanese Maples, one of my favorite trees...and Sharkey bedecked with a red lace leaf, how charming! :-) you girls have such a wonderful place to hang out at. Francesca my dear, you look wonderful in the #1 photo! ;-)

Yesterday from almost 80degrees to a wind and rain storm that ended up in the morning with 32 degrees...yep that's Wisconsin! :-(

Next to me on a towel draped chair Kitty is sleeping, all curled up with her paws drawn to her head, twisted up and showing a smile...maybe a good dream!

The sun is coming out and that's good, because my girl for her art lessons is coming and it's nice to draw/paint when there is sunlight.

Wow Lynn, full sized candy bars? I'm T&T at your house ;-)

Hope everyone is find this morning and will have an enjoyable Fall weekend!
    till later,
    delia & Kitty =^+^=

  • Hello Francesca, Sharkey, Lynn, Maddox, Zoe, Delia, Kitty and my buddies-
What a nice post about the Japanese maple trees! We have a beautiful red one in the flower garden behind the house. Magnificent red colored leaves. Great pictures of Franny and Sharkey too.
Delia, Kitty sounds so comfy sleeping all curled up in the chair. Dreaming of mice, perhaps? James Dean sends his purrs, he is all excited watching hawks in the sky from his safe window perch.
Kirby, I liked your story about having a good nose. I can run and locate the taco box in a group of ten bags of groceries. They call me "taco dog".
Missy Chow, did you like your spa day? bet you look beautiful.
Zoe, thanks so much for the nice comments about my batgirl costume. Getting it fitted a little better today. Maybe you will have lots of treats for Halloween, dog treats that is to enjoy.
Lynn, we admire your holiday spirit! Hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend!!!
Howls, woofs, purrs to all my glue squad buddies- love, Abby alias Batgirl!

  • ..vine maple is turning color here in the woods around my house..and we have a 60 yr. old, 120 ft. maple tree in our front yard right next to the river bank..lots of leaves fall from that guy..I help Lucinda rake them up and start a giant bonfire on a cool crisp day...I was sick to my tummy this a.m., so of course Lucinda and James are watching me..back off..this old girl is fine!..can hardly wait for Samantha to get here..I always go thur her suitcase and take everything out and bring it in the living room..I will let the Rototiller sleep on my electric heating pad..being a Vegas dog she will be cold...I must do some resting..everybody have a great week-end..over and out..love, Cora-Belle

  • Aw, I love the leaf look Sharkey! :)

I too have a Japanese Maple in my yard. However, it's now bare! :)

Make sure to hunker down for the storm that could make landfall on the Eastern Seaboard over the next few days.

I'm crossing my fingers and toes that NH doesn't get impacted too much.

No doubt with high winds and rain all the remaining trees will soon be leaf-less!

    Happy Weekend to all.

  • Hi gang,
I am so late today. It was an extremely busy day today. Those trees have such vibrant color. I love them. I wish we had some of them
The way things are looking, the whole state of Pa. might be without power in a couple of days. If that is the case, I want to let everyone know ahead of time that I will be back as soon as power is restored. I am sure Karen would contact Lynn to let her know what is going on. And if some of us do lose power, I hope the rest of you that still have power talk real nice about us while we are away.
    Hehehehehehe
There is always a chance the storm will head away from shore. Cora-Belle you better take care of yourself and watch that tummy. Rebel, you better grow some fur. The rest of you have a great weekend and if anyone loses power, be safe
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hi Girls & Glue Squad, Love the pictures of Japanese maples, we have one in the front yard, it's holding all it's leaves at the present time, but anything could change with the upcoming weather conditions around the corner. Sharkey, you are so cute with leaf on your head :-)

If I don't post in the next couple of days, changes are we lost power here on the East Coast. Hope NOT, but that's not guaranteed either :-( . Leaves are falling like snowflakes already and the yard covered with leaves.

Stay safe everyone. Hi to all my buddies, & Lynn, Delia, Gail, Sonya too.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow
    xoxo

  • I have read in Google that the TAMUKEYAMA MAPLE originated in KUMAMOTO, in KYUSHU, JAPAN, and is named after the mountain located there.
However, there is another mountain in NARA, also named TAMUKEYAMA. There is ancient connection as both are HACHIMANGU SHRINES. My question is was this maple tree developed in KUMAMOTO, or NARA?

  • Love Love Love Japanese Maples? Check out this amazing article on Creating Your Garden Paradise. This guy created the most beautiful landscape at his house using Japanese Maples and conifers.

Many of the trees in this garden were purchased from Maplestone Ornamentals in Alliance, Ohio.
