Good, Sharkey. We're spending time out in the paddock today while new hay is laid in our stall in the stable.

Come on, Sharkey! Let's go help replace the hay! The bedding in the stalls needs to be replaced every few days, depending on how soiled it is.

That's it, Sharkey. We need to load the old hay onto this muck trailer.

Let's make a nice pile because we've got more to load in here! Then we can cart it off to the compost pile.

Here we go, fresh hay!

I love a good hay bale, don't you Franny? Not only does the shape make them easy to store and transport, but it makes for a great pedestal for me as well!

I'll throw this bale in the wheelbarrow and then break it up so we can distribute it in the stalls.

  • Hello girls,
You are always working, doing chores around the farm. I hope GK is helpimg you. A word of warning girls, if you continue to run around in the old bedding, you might be headed for baths. Just something to think about. hehehehehehe
Cora-Belle, we didn't hear from you yesterday. Are you sad about the chiweenies moving? Dudley, that is nice that you have two uncles living with you. Do they both think you are a very special dog? We do. Gail, you must be in donk heaven today. This is your favorite kind of blog. Abby, your mom does crafts like Lynn. Does she have craft shows too? Lynn is very busy getting her things done for her craft show. Hopefully she will take a nice break when it is over. Zoe, how is your dad? All better? Tell your mom to stop working so hard. We don't want her to get sick too. Kirby, you said your dad is working on the camper. Are you going on a trip sometime soon? I know you like going away with your dad. DELIA, you ate a piece of that birthday cake? I bet it was real good too, You go girl. Rebel, is your mange something that will eventually go away? I see lots of baths in your future. We are here for you little buddy. Very cool this morning. A perfect deck morning for chows.
Missy Chow, do you like laying outside in the cool weather like I do?
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Good morning ladies,
"Whew" for sure! But, the stinky work has to be done. The horses and the donkeys need clean, dry beds for sure.
Well, as for the mange. I hope it goes away. I'm the first in the family to have the mange. I am taking my pills. My Dr. Becky doesn't keep the medicine for my injections in stock, so Mimi is hoping that the UPS man brings the shipment today so I can start my shots.
Everybody have a great day today.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It seems that taking care of the donks and horses takes a lot of your time, not to mention the smell they can make. I know that if I were doing that job I would need a bath after I finished. I love horses but they really can smell if they are not kept clean. Not going soon Maddox; just fixing a fan over the shower. Mommy was taking a shower and one of the blades on the fan came off and took the other ones off too. Made a lot of noise but didn’t hurt anyone. The fan blades just fell onto the screen between them and the shower. Daddy said it has been too hot to fix it, but now it’s getting cooler he can replace the fan. When it gets cooler, we will be heading for the mountains again.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Heeehaw, sorry...had to do that, cause when I see the Donks I hear them :-)

F & S you guys look like you like the smell of the straw or maybe not!

Some of those bales look like hay and not straw. I had to change to shavings because the horses would eat the straw...not really a good thing.

Rebel and Kirby, to me the horse smells better then a cow or pig, trust me! I love the smell of fresh straw in a stall, it's wonderful!

Maddox, I ONLY ate the frosting, but the cake looked good...I'm a sweetaholic and struggle everyday.

Kitty was out most of the night, she likes it when it's warm, she came in at 4:00am and full of burrs then laying next to me purrring.

Lynn I have no doubt you will do real well at the Craft show...Best of Luck! ;-)

    Till later!

    delia & Kitty >(^, ,^)<

  • Hello Ladies,
You always fascinate me with all your posts on the farm. I am sure Gail is in "donk/horse" heaven today with this post. Cleaning stalls looks like a lot of hard work, but your girls are Mama's hard working crew. And look at how happy the horses were in the end for your help!!! Zoe, you and Mom are really sweet with the card order--it will be headed your way soon and I thank you. Maddox, I am so glad Gibbs is getting back to his old "young" self again. You need to supervise his actions with the elders so no more swallowing fur. With you in charge he will be great.Abby and J.D. I am so happy for Mom's day off and you guys having "cc" time. Kirby, I see cooler, traveling days in your future soon. Dudley, I forgot about you having your uncles living with you until you mentioned it, but this must be like living with Grandma and Grandpa and getting spoiled every day. You are always such a good Dudley Do Right. Now Rebel, you know how I tend to panic over health issues after being Basil's caretaker, so I had to read up on this mange stuff. I had heard of it, but never knew what it was all about. I spent 1/2 hr. reading on-line yesterday and am now well educated on mange, and I know that Mimi, Papa and Dr. Becky are giving you the deluxe care you need as they always do. Just rest, do like Cora Belle said and let the meds work, but the special baths will help also. Lots of get well hugs your way from me, and give some to Mimi and Papa too. Soon you will be feeling lots better. You all have a great day.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, You wonderful girlfriends certainly do a lot of great things there at the farm to help all of your friends! The donkeys and handsome Ramon(?) sure do love all of your help and it's easy to see that you love helping all of them! It's so great that all of you are very healthy and enjoy each other! Maddox, it's so nice to read your comments everyday! My 2 uncles and my Mom love me to pieces and treat me fabulously every day! Rebel, hope you are feeling better every day and hope those shots get rid of that mange! Kirby, sure hope that new fan works better than the old one! So glad no one was hurt! Hope it gets cooler soon so you can go to the mountains! Hope to hear from the rest of you and will check back later! It's been cooler here and somewhat cloudy. Eastern Washington still has fires and it is extremely smoky over there and some of the smoke travels over here-not good. Hope all of you have a great day! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Sharkey, Francesca, Lynn, Maddox, Dudley and my glue squad buddies-
Wow what nice horse and donkey stalls, I just loved seeing you girls working hard replacing that hay. hay smells so good when it is fresh!! The horse at the end is just gorgeous too!
Kirby, glad you are looking forward to a nice autumn road trip. My mom is going to the Atlantic Coast veterinary conference in October. She will in Zoe's territory in New Jersey for a few days. Autumn road trips can be fun, such a pretty time of year.
Lynn, how do people order your cards? Do you make halloween cards too?
Maddox, I love the cooler weather too and am loooking forward to more dog park time without the heat. Dudley, how wonderful that you have two uncles to help give you cuddles too. Rebel, hope you feel better real soon and the injections are scary but really work. Mom is still sore after her race but ran four miles today anyway. I am going back to work with her tonight and will wear my halloween bandana. Kitty, hope you had a wild night out and lots of sleep today in the sun. Delia, glad you liked that frosting! Have a great Tuesday and enjoy the sunshine! Corabelle, feel better, we love you.
    Abby and James Dean

  • Psst don't look now but I see a bath in your future after helping out in the stalls.

Sweet Rebel I hope you are feeling better with the mange. Everyone have a great day!

  • .....I used to help Lucinda and Ivy, the wonder dog clean the pygmy goat barns (miss those little guys!..we rescued them)..yes, I am sad the Chiweenies moved, and looking forward to a new family down the road..hope they have doggies and they like me...must take my meds and rest..this old girl doggie is tired today..over and out, Cora-Belle

  • Move over spidey webs and bring on the donks and hay bales..

I do see quite a few hay bales, Hardy Mums and pumpkins on display in my neighborhood.

I also noticed a neighbor used hay to cover an area of his lawn that he put down seed. The hay must be a barrier of sorts?

The hay must provide a barrier of smells from the donks! :)

    Love ya!
