Summer Fur Games- Minnow Takes Gold!

Posted by Pia

Our very own Minnow took gold this week in the curiously under publicized, Summer Fur Games. While refusing to do interviews with other media outlets, it's no surprise that Minnow made an exception for her Daily Wag family!

Minnow's dedication to her cause and her rather Zen assessment of teammate McKayla, with whom so many are 'not impressed,' are infectious!

There is a wisdom about Minnow- and one can't help but wonder where it originated. According to Minnow, "The experience of being adopted has been very empowering. It has offered me a renewed sense of hope regarding human animals- and their ability to reject the myths that are often fatal to so many of my loyal, yet still homeless, 'comrades in fur.' "

Next week, I'll share more from our in-depth interview with gold medal winner Minnow. She shares never-before-seen photos of the moments leading up to her victory, and speaks candidly about her newfound success, product endorsements and what it's like to become such a 'big fish' overnight!

  • Hello Dr. Pia,
I was very late with my comment yesterday so I thought I would make up for it by being early today. Minnow has sad little eyes. But she has a loving home. I have not heard of the Summer Fur Games. I really like your pictures.
Well, I guess I go to bed and guess about what the rest of the Glue Squad has to say today. Zoe is practicing her in home nursing care, Kirby is doing his version of a comb over on his bald spot, Cora-Belle had a new ramp, Missy Chow is trying to be good and the rest have stuff going on to that I can't wait to hear about in the morning.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
And hello to you too Dr. Pia. I guess I missed the “games” and am so sorry I did. I just love to play games. Congratulations on your wining the gold. Not much to report today except that bald spot on my tail isn’t any better today. I sort of tried to help it out yesterday which wasn’t a good thing. Mommy said I only made it worse. Now it will have to heal all over again. Hopefully hair will come back at that spot. I’ve been getting so many baths lately I feel like a “water dog.” Well, time for breakfast and a nap.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Dr. Pia & Sweet Minnow! I am so thrilled to see all of these great photos of of my sweetheart, Minnow! It was also nice of her to share her friend McKayla! I just drool over these photos and I want to be near you, Minnow! You certainly deserved that gold medal! You were so lucky to be adopted by Dr. Pia and you look so happy because of it! I was never in a shelter, but was in a back yard, all alone except for my kitty friend and left outside until I was 11 months old. Then I was adopted by my wonderful Mom and I have been so happy ever since even though I am quite sensitive sometimes when I recall my rough beginning. I follow my Mom everywhere and love her delightful attention to me! Sure hope you and Dr.Pia have a wonderful weekend and can't wait to see you again next week! Sure hope all of our great Glue Squaders have a great time, also! Love to all, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Dr. Pia, Minnow & all my Glue Squad Buddies,
Congratulations Minnow on the gold. It will be exciting to see the pics next week on all your training. Do you drink those green grass drinks to aid in your health? Don't worry McKayla, you may not have a gold medal, but you now have a golden life after being adopted by Pia and her family. You are a beauty queen and those glasses are star quality in themselves. Maddox that is a perfect way to describe Kirby's bald tail, just a comb over--good one!!! Feel better Kirby. Everyone on the Glue Squad gets gold in my eyes---Maddox for his thinking, Kirby for being an adoring son, Abby for best boarding supervisor, Rebel, for duck watching and convertable riding, Dudley for his caring ways, Cora Belle, for best barker and Maple Bar eater, Missy Chow and Chloe for best up and coming young stars and no one can forget the gold for rapper "Z" and for Zoe for best T.P. artist. Poco, received the gold for fashion and Kitty and James Dean for furball art. Love to all this wonderful summer day.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Hey Dr. Pia and our Gold Medalist Super Minnow and all my glue squad buddies-
What a great post today honoring Sweet Minnow and reminding us that rescue dogs like Dudley and myself need loving homes too. I loved the picture os sweet Minnow in the kennel cage waiting to go home. Really touching and she has a wonderful home now.
Only last year I was relinquished by my former owners because I was sick with lyme disease and they had planned on sending me to the rainbow. Thankfully the doctor saved my life and I was adopted by my mom who loves me very much!! I have a wonderful life now.
Lynn, I agree all the glue squad are Gold medal winners in my book along with their people. YOU are a Gold medalist for your wonderful, caring notes each day which makes me smile. Kirby hope your tail feels better. Cora belle I will bark at the dogs at the dog park for you! Maddox,Dudley, kirby, missy Chow keep cool today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZOE early for FRIDAY!!! Hugs and purrs to Kitty, Delia, Sonya, Jan and all from our zen cat James Dean and me- Abby
