Scrubbing the Stable

Posted by Sharkey

Well, I see that Vivaldi snuck a blog in yesterday.  He thinks he's so clever!  Anyway, before Francesca, G.K., and I left for Maine, I visited the stable and was mildly alarmed at how quiet things were.  After a few inquiries, I found out why.

Hmmm, this is so strange. The stable seems far too quiet.

With five horses and three miniature donkeys, such quiet in the stable is hard to come by! I'm going to put on my detective cap and get to the bottom of this!

Hey Rinze and Meindert, what's going on in here? Where are Rutger and Ramon?

Well, Sharkey, Betsy loaded them into the horse trailer a few days ago and drove them up to Skylands so that Martha can go riding through Acadia.

In the meantime, the crew has been giving the stable a good scrubbing. It's much easier when there are fewer horses in the stalls. All of the stalls have been thoroughly mucked.

The stall mats were removed, washed really well, and dried out in the sun.

And then Gelbu power washed each stall until they were clean and shiny.

He was sure to get every nook and cranny.

Wow, Rinze, won't the travellers be so happy to come back to such a clean home? It doesn't even smell like a stable in here. Oooh - did I just say something inappropriate? Sorry.

  • Hello Sharkey,
Does Martha have a stable in Maine for the horses and a nice area for them to roam around in like at the farm? Hey Sharkey, I see some new people posted on Vivaldi's blog. I would assume they are cat people. Maybe Vivaldi should post a blog once a week like Dr. Pia.
Once again, I am awake in the middle of the night and guess what? Raining. Yuk
It is nice and cool out. I thought I could sneak out to the deck for a few minutes. Nope. I am not getting my feet wet unless it is absolutely necessary. So, it is back to bed for me.
I will check on your posts in the daylight.
    Love to all,
    Maddox

  • ..wow..busy busy!..when we had mini goats I would help Lucinda clean their barn..it was a lot of work but so nice when we were done..she says she is too old to do that now..and so am I!..but I miss not having a mini goat..they were fun to nip on the ankle..( naughty thing I used to do)...must take my medicine and hit the hay (he-he-he!) I am a funny cattledog..later, Cora-Belle

  • Hello Lades & Glue Squad Buddies,
Getting those stables cleaned and ready for winter. Won't everyone be happy when they return. It is probably nice to have some of the farm pals in Maine. You girls and G.K. will enjoy that I am sure. Cora Belle, you and Maddox are going to have to call each other when you get up during the night and compare notes. Tomorrow is supposed to be the start of a cool off spell. I am happy. 70's tomorrow and 80's for a few days. This has been a hot, hot summer. I pick the boys up at the airport tonight and am excited to hear all about Alaska and eat good fish. How are the boarders Abby? And Pam, you need to check in with us and tell us how things are going. You all just make my days, reading your adventures. I love you to pieces and wish you were all here to give hugs. Kirby, cool weather is coming--hang in there.
    Hugs & smiles,
    Lynn

  • Morning Girls & Glue Squad, This is a new experience for me; posting much earlier than normal. Early computer time for me this morning, it's going to be a busy morning than I can go back and nap. I took a second look at my posting yesterday; and boy, did I have some poor wording, must have been so excited to say hi to everyone...sorry about that!!

Yes, Cora-Belle, you are a funny cattledog, love your stories. ;) Maddox, hope you get to sit on the deck later today.

Will check back later to see what everyone is up to.

    Till next time,
    Missy Chow

  • Move over Sherlock Hemlock, there is another detective in the house! :)

    Good sleuth solving Sharkey!

All you need is a cap and a pipe and we can ship you off to Scotland Yard! :)

    Have a wonderful Wednesday...
    gail

  • Good morning Sharkey,
Gail has a great idea there. I can just see you in a tweed Sherlock Holmes style cap. Of course, there would be some metallic thread woven in for a little glitz & glam (skip the pipe thing though)
I don't think you stepped on Rinze's toes with that comment. You know, one gets used to the smells in a barn or stable. It's really tough to get that odor out of your hair, though!
Cora, I surely can picture you in your prime keeping those goats in line. Bet it was fun!
Lynn, sure sounds like you are going to have some great fish dinners.
It's not so hot here anymore, so Mimi & I are driving around with the top down. Boy, do I get to smell lots of great smells.
    Have a great day everybody.
    Your pal,
    Rebel

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Now that’s what I need; a pressure washer. I’ll bet that my bath time would only be a few minutes long. Just think of how I could spend all that time I loose taking a bath. I can think of so many things to do, but I most likely would just take a nap. Chows like naps you know. As for me, I love the smell of a stable. When I smell that smell, I know that horses can’t be to far away. I love horses in case you wanted to know. I’ll have to run that pressure washer thingy by my Daddy and see what he can come up with; he’s smart that way you know.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello Sharkey, Lynn, Maddox, Kirby Bear, Cora belle and all my friends,
That stable looks beautiful! Mom said it brought back memories of visiting her wonderful horse friends Squire and Magic Mountain. After Magic went to the rainbow bridge years ago it was hard for her to go back to the barn. Then the border collie ate hemlock and after several all nighters and emergency care joined Magic. Mom visits her horse friends once a year but still looks for Britty and magic there. Maybe their spirits are still about the farm. Cora belle you would have loved Britty. Once she let visitors load apples up into their pick up trucks then refused to let them leave the farm! She was always patrolling the horses nipping and barking, licking my mom. Those were the days.
But I regress... Glad to hear your men are coming back from Alaska Lynn. Maddox, Missy Chow and Kirby, hope you are all keeping cool today. rebel, how are the ducks? Mom is checking out her vacation stuff in October. Most of the boarder dogs left, new crew rolling in on Friday. Lots of barking for me!! High paws to all.. Abby

  • Hi F,S,&GK+ Glue Squad, Sharkey, you did a great job telling us about how Geibu was able to clean the stable so well! I'm sure you were surprised by how quiet the stable was and how fun it was that you were talking to Rinze who filled you in! How great to have Rutger and Ramon up at Skylands where you were going, also! Sure would be fun to be there, too! Maddox, how nice it's cooler where you are! It has been much hotter up here in the Northwest and there are some horrible fires on the other side of our Snoqualmie Pass between Cle Elum and Ellensburg. Scarey! Cora-Belle. I love all that you do, you are a special buddy! Lynn, have fun eating those fish when your guys return and glad it's getting cooler where you are! Missy Chow, I love reading your comments and you are a great youngster! Gail, once again you thoughts are very clever! Rebel, it's nice that it is cooler where you are, too! Kirby, it would be fun to have a pressure washer for your bath-I would love one, too! Hope all of you have a great day and will check back later! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Sharkey I bet the horses and donkeys really appreciate the extra effort it takes to keep their home clean for them.

Hope everyone is doing well. Cora-Belle I would love a book from you about your naughty younger cattle dog days!

  • ..whew!!..it is hot here in the Pacific N.W. today, good thing I got an A/c for my birthday..I am in front of it..no outdoor time for me till it really cools off tonight..this getting old is not for the faint of heart!..later, Cora-Belle

  • Good Evening F & S

So I didn't blog yesterday because I had nothing to say to the furball - cute but not my type. Today I'm late because I had to get a good scrubbing today also - a trip to the groomer :( However I look beautiful, got new bling for my ears and I'm ready for our house guests next week.

I would be upset if I was one of the horses left home - does Martha have favorites? Poor Rinze don't be sad that you were left behind - doesn't seem fair to me but what do I know.

Well I would like to stay up and chat but I'm ready for bed my mom left for work at 5:30 this morning and I'm tired. Have a good night

    Zoe

  • Oh my heart be still Riza you are so beautiful...I love painting Friesians, they are actually hard to paint because of their color(I don't use black, I mix for black)
I kept my barn clean and fresh, it was a joy to be with my horses and clean the barn...I was proud of it. Sharkey great stable patrol! ;-)
