Hiking Around Little Long Pond
Posted by F&S
While we were in Maine last week, we went for a hike around Little Long Pond, which is just a short distance from quaint Seal Harbor village. This pond is so peaceful and the view of Acadia National Park in the distance is spectacular. We Frenchies really like to dive into nature, so to speak.
Come on, girls! It's a beautiful day for a hike around Little Long Pond!
I love going on hikes with Martha in Maine. I'm so fascinated by all of the flora and fauna, which looks so different than what we see at the farm.
While it's easy to get excited and want to blaze your own path, it's important to follow the trails. The trails in Acadia are well-marked for everyone's safety.
Sharkey, look at this fascinating patch of moss! Moss grows in shady, damp areas on rocks and trees. Did you know that moss has no flowers or seeds and reproduces by spores, like ferns and mushrooms?
That's fascinating, Francesca! We also have a lot of moss growing in the woods in Bedford, but it's so interesting to see different varieties in different places. There are more than 12,000 species!
G.K., exploring nature can be dirty business! Nothing a good bath can't cure.
I suppose I would have remained clean had I kept on the board walk.
Francesca! You're going the wrong direction. Turn around and follow me this way!
If those Frenchies want to continue along that trail and get all muddy, they can do it on their own! I prefer to find a nice spot for reflection.
Just staring at the pond filled with water lilies is quite inspiring. No wonder Claude Monet produced a series of 250 gorgeous water lily paintings!
Many people confuse water lilies with lotus flowers. However, the two are not of the same genus and the structures of the flowers are actually very different!
If I'm lucky, I might even glimpse a loon or a beaver! I'll be real quiet and still, like the water, and maybe I'll make some new friends! Isn't this view magnificent?
